Overview

The Ninja Foodi Possible Cooker, model MC1001, is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for a wide range of cooking methods, offering convenience and efficiency for household use. This multi-functional cooker combines several cooking functions into one unit, aiming to simplify meal preparation and reduce the need for multiple kitchen gadgets.

Function Description

The Foodi Possible Cooker boasts a comprehensive suite of cooking functions, making it suitable for various culinary tasks. These functions are categorized into pressure cooking, SteamCrisp functions, and air fry/stovetop functions, each offering unique benefits for different types of dishes.

Pressure Cooking: This function allows for rapid cooking by trapping steam inside the pot, creating a high-pressure environment. It's ideal for tenderizing tough cuts of meat, cooking beans, grains, and other foods quickly. The unit features both natural and quick release options for pressure, providing flexibility based on the recipe and desired outcome. A delayed release option is also available, which can be useful for certain recipes that benefit from a gradual pressure reduction. When using the pressure function, it's crucial to ensure the lid is properly closed and locked, and the silicone ring is correctly installed and undamaged to prevent any risk of explosion or injury. The pressure release valve should always be checked for clogging or obstruction before use. For foods that expand, such as dried vegetables, beans, grains, and rice, the pot should not be filled more than halfway, or as otherwise instructed in a Ninja Foodi recipe, to prevent foaming and spluttering that could clog the valve.

SteamCrisp Functions: This category includes Steam & Crisp and Steam & Bake. These functions combine steam with convection heat to create dishes that are both moist inside and crispy outside. Steam & Crisp is perfect for achieving a crispy exterior on foods while maintaining internal juiciness, often used for items like roasted chicken or potatoes. Steam & Bake, on the other hand, is designed for baked goods and other dishes where a moist interior and a lightly browned, crisp exterior are desired. When using these functions, the unit preheats to the selected temperature, and once the appropriate steam level is reached, the timer begins counting down.

Air Fry/Stovetop Functions: This broad category encompasses several cooking methods:

  • Slow Cook: This function allows for cooking food at a lower temperature over an extended period, ideal for stews, pot roasts, and other dishes that benefit from long, gentle cooking. Users can select between HI and LO temperature settings and adjust the cooking time from 4 to 12 hours in 15-minute increments. The unit automatically switches to Keep Warm mode once the slow cook cycle is complete.
  • Sear/Sauté: This function transforms the cooker into a stovetop, enabling users to brown meats, sauté vegetables, and simmer sauces directly in the pot. It operates at a fixed temperature (450°F) and is useful for building flavor before other cooking methods. Nonstick utensils are recommended to protect the pot's coating.
  • Bake/Roast: This function allows the unit to act like an oven, suitable for tender meats, baked treats, and other roasted dishes. Users can set the temperature between 250°F and 425°F in 25-degree increments and adjust the cooking time from minutes up to 4 hours.
  • Braise: This function is designed for transforming tougher cuts of meat. It typically involves browning the meat at high heat (using the Sear/Sauté function) and then simmering it in liquid at a lower temperature. The unit will display a default temperature setting, and users can adjust the cook time in 15-minute increments.
  • Sous Vide: French for "under vacuum," this function precisely cooks food sealed in a plastic bag in an accurately regulated water bath. It's known for producing perfectly cooked, tender, and moist results. Users add room-temperature water to the pot, set the desired temperature between 120°F and 190°F in 5-degree increments, and adjust the cook time from 3 to 24 hours. The unit will preheat, and then prompt the user to add food before starting the countdown.
  • Steam: This function gently cooks delicate foods at a high temperature, preserving nutrients and moisture. It requires at least one cup of liquid for operation. Users can select the desired temperature and adjust the cook time in 1-minute increments.
  • Proof: This function is specifically designed for dough, providing a controlled warm environment to allow it to rise. Users place the dough in the pot with the lid on, select the PROOF function, and set the temperature between 90°F and 105°F in 5-degree increments. The proof time can be adjusted in 5-minute increments.
  • Dehydrate: This function is used to dehydrate meats, fruits, and vegetables, creating healthy snacks.
  • Keep Warm: This function reheats or keeps cooked food warm for extended periods after a cooking cycle is complete. The temperature defaults, and the unit begins counting up.

Usage Features

The Foodi Possible Cooker is designed with user-friendliness in mind, featuring an intuitive control panel and various operational buttons.

  • Control Panel: The central interface for operating the cooker.
  • Dial: A primary control for scrolling through the available cooking functions. Users rotate the dial until their desired function is highlighted on the display.
  • Left Arrows (Temp): Up/down arrows located to the left of the display, used for adjusting the cooking temperature for functions that allow temperature modification.
  • Right Arrows (Time): Up/down arrows located to the right of the display, used for adjusting the cooking time for various functions.
  • START/STOP Button: This button initiates the cooking process. Pressing it again during a cook cycle will stop the current operation.
  • Lid Design: The unit features a top pot handle/spoon rest and a cooking lid. For pressure cooking, the lid must be properly closed and locked. For other functions, the lid can be placed on top or removed, depending on the recipe. The lid should only be lifted from the handle on the front of the unit to avoid scalding steam.
  • Inner Cooking Pot: A removable pot where all cooking takes place. It should always be installed in the cooker base before operation. The pot can become extremely heavy when full of ingredients, so care should be taken when lifting it.
  • Spoonula: A dishwasher-safe utensil included for use with the nonstick cooking pot.
  • Safety Features: The cooker includes several safety warnings, such as not tampering with the pressure release valve, not attempting to open the lid during or immediately after pressure cooking until all internal pressure has been released, and keeping hands and face away from the pressure release valve during steam release. The unit will display "OPN Lid" when it is safe to open the lid after pressure cooking. It also warns against moving the appliance when in use, especially with the slider in the PRESSURE position, to prevent unintentional lid opening. Overfilling the pot or accessories beyond the MAX fill level is also cautioned against to prevent personal injury or property damage.

Maintenance Features

Proper cleaning and maintenance are essential for the longevity and safe operation of the Ninja Foodi Possible Cooker.

  • Cleaning Frequency: The unit should be cleaned thoroughly after every use.
  • Cooker Base and Control Panel: These parts should be wiped clean with a damp cloth. It is crucial NEVER to submerge the cooker base in water or any other liquid, nor should it be placed in a dishwasher.
  • Cooking Pot, Glass Lid, and Spoonula: These components are dishwasher-safe, offering convenient cleaning.
  • Food Residue: If food residue is stuck on the cooking pot, it should be filled with water and allowed to soak before cleansing. For residue on the glass lid or silicone spoonula, a non-abrasive cleanser should be used. Metal scouring pads are not recommended as pieces can break off and touch electrical parts, posing a risk of electric shock. If scrubbing is necessary, a non-abrasive cleanser or liquid dish soap with a nylon pad or brush is advised.
  • Air-Drying: All parts should be air-dried after each use to prevent moisture buildup.
  • Cooling Down: The unit should be allowed to cool before cleaning, disassembly, or storing parts.
  • Storage: When not in use and before cleaning, the unit should be turned off and unplugged from the socket.
  • Silicone Ring: The Foodi SmartLid silicone ring should be regularly inspected for tears or damage and replaced if necessary. It is crucial for safe pressure cooking.
  • Pressure Release Valve: This valve should always be checked for clogging or obstruction and cleaned if necessary before each use, especially when cooking foods prone to foaming.

The Ninja Foodi Possible Cooker is designed to be a versatile and reliable appliance for everyday cooking, offering a wide array of functions to cater to diverse culinary needs while emphasizing user safety and ease of maintenance.
