The forward emergency braking system can assist the
driver when there is a risk of a forward collision with the
vehicle ahead or pedestrian in the travelling lane.
JVS0930X
The forward emergency braking system detects a
vehicle ahead and pedestrian using a multi-sensing
front camera unit

located on the upper side of the
windshield.
WARNING:
. The forward emergency braking system is a
supplemental aid to the driver. It is not a
replacement for the driver’s attention to
traffic conditions or responsibility to drive
safely. It cannot prevent accidents due to
carelessness or dangerous driving tech-
niques.
. The forward emergency braking system
does not function in all driving, traffic,
weather and road conditions.
SYSTEM OPERATION
GUID-58328209-51DC-4A0F-B553-C52C8FDEBE1C
JVS0361X
The forward emergency braking system operates when
vehicle speed is within the range of approximately 10
to 80 km/h (5 to 50 MPH). (The system will not
activate for a stationary vehicle or a pedestrian when
the vehicle is driven at speeds faster than approxi-
mately 60 km/h (37 MPH).)
If a risk of a forward collision is detected, the forward
emergency braking system will provide the first
warning to the driver by flashing the warning light,
providing an audible warning and applying partial
braking.
If the driver’s collision avoidance operation is not
sufficient and the risk of collision is increased, the
system issues the audible warning and applies harder
braking immediately before the collision.
NOTE:
The vehicle’s stop lights come on when braking
is performed by the forward emergency braking
system.
Depending on vehicle speed and distance to the
vehicle ahead or pedestrian, as well as driving and
roadway conditions, the system may help the driver
avoid a forward collision or may help mitigate the
consequences of a collision, should one be unavoid-
able.
If the driver is handling the steering wheel, accelerating
or braking, the forward emergency braking system will
function later or will not function.
The automatic braking will cease under the following
conditions:
. When the steering wheel is turned as far as
necessary to avoid a collision.
. When the accelerator pedal is depressed.
. When there is no longer a vehicle or a pedestrian
detected ahead.
If the forward emergency braking system has stopped
the vehicle, the vehicle will remain at a standstill for
approximately 2 seconds before the brakes are
released.
WARNING:
. The multi-sensing front camera unit does
not detect the following objects:
— Children and other people who are of
short stature, animals, and bicycles
— Pedestrians walking at night or in dark
areas such as tunnels
— Oncoming vehicles
— Crossing vehicles
— Vehicles parked diagonally
. The multi-sensing front camera unit may not
detect a vehicle or pedestrian ahead in the
following conditions:
— Visibility is poor because of bad weather
conditions such as rain, snow, fog, dust
storms, sandstorms, and snowstorms.
