ARROW Harness Safety and Responsibility

Overview

The Niviuk ARROW is a high-performance paragliding harness designed for pilots who want to maximize their cross-country (XC) adventures and begin competing. It is described as comfortable, maneuverable, very stable, lightweight, durable, and easy to use.

Function Description:

The ARROW harness is designed to provide a secure and comfortable connection between the pilot and the paraglider wing. Its primary function is to support the pilot during flight, offer aerodynamic efficiency, and integrate safety features for various flying conditions. The harness features a pod design, which enhances aerodynamics by enclosing the pilot's legs, reducing drag, and improving glide performance. It includes a rescue parachute compartment for emergency deployment and a speed-bar system for accelerating the paraglider. The harness is adjustable to accommodate different pilot body shapes and flying preferences, ensuring optimal comfort and control.

  • Protection: 15 cm foam back protector for efficient impact absorption.
  • Seat Board: Removable, 250 g.
  • Chest Strap Adjustment: 34 to 43 cm (in size M).
  • Rescue System Container: Integrated, with a volume of 2000 min to 10000 max cm³.
  • Impact Pad Type: Foam, integrated.
  • Compatibility: Recommended for Niviuk wings such as Artik 6, Icepeak X-One, Hook 6, Ikuma 2, Peak 5, Hook 6 P, and Ikuma 2 P.

Usage Features:

  • Aerodynamic Design: Features an aerodynamic tail that optimizes shape, reduces adverse pressure gradient, and minimizes drag. An inflation system with two strategically placed air inlets maintains the fairing's shape with high internal pressure during flight.
  • Comfort: Excellent ergonomic design with 3D modeling of the seat and back support ensures a stable and comfortable structure that perfectly adjusts to the pilot's body. The back support includes ergonomic foam for improved comfort.
  • Adjustability:
    • Pilot Position: The angle of the pilot can be regulated by adjusting specific straps. The angle of the back and shoulder straps are also adjustable.
    • Chest Strap: Adjustable in flight to control the distance between carabiners (34-43 cm in size M). A tighter strap provides more stability, while a wider distance increases turning capacity.
    • Shoulder Straps: Adjusted symmetrically for optimal fit, depending on pilot height.
    • Leg Loops: Must be correctly adjusted for easy entry and exit without using hands after takeoff. Adjustment straps are located under the chest strap.
    • Pod: Adjustable to fit the pilot's leg length using cords inside the pod. It is recommended to adjust the pod in a hang frame before the first flight.
    • Speed-bar: Comes pre-fitted and needs to be adjusted symmetrically in a hang frame to ensure cords are not too short, which could cause constant tension on the speed system. Longer settings are preferable.
  • Safety Features:
    • T-lock System: Connects the chest strap to the leg loops using two attachment points for ease of use and extreme safety.
    • Foam Back Protector: 15 cm foam protector provides efficient impact absorption in case of a hard landing.
    • Triangulation: Applied triangulation enhances stability in glide and provides extra speed.
    • Pre-flight Checks: Emphasizes thorough pre-flight checks including visible damage, buckle/strap/zip connections, glider-harness connection, pocket closures, and parachute container/handle insertion.
  • Optional Accessories: Supports ballast, Camelbak, drink tube, and pee tube.
  • Flying Types: Suitable for winch launching. Not recommended for tandem, aerobatic, or acro flying. For SIV courses or flying above water, wearing a life jacket is essential, and buckles should be undone before water impact to facilitate quick exit.

Maintenance Features:

  • Durability: Constructed with semi-light yet robust materials for a long service life. The pod is removable and replaceable, increasing durability.
  • Regular Checks:
    • Post-Impact/Landing: Check the harness after every impact, bad launch, or landing, and if it shows signs of damage or heavy wear.
    • Annual/Bi-annual Inspections: Thorough inspection by an authorized workshop every two years or 100 flying hours (whichever comes first).
    • Parachute Repack: Thorough inspection at every parachute repack (normally once a year).
  • Carabiner Replacement: Main aluminum carabiners must be replaced every two years or 500 flying hours, or if they show any signs of damage.
  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe off dirt with a plastic brush and/or a damp cloth. For heavy dirt, clean with water and mild soap. Allow to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area without direct sunlight.
  • Storage:
    • Store in a cool, dry place, away from solvents, fuels, or oils.
    • Avoid leaving in a hot car boot (temperatures can reach 60°C).
    • Do not store when wet or damp.
    • Ensure the harness is not deformed when stored in a backpack.
    • If the parachute gets wet, it must be removed, dried, and repacked before being put back into the container.
  • Repairs: Any repairs or component replacements must only be carried out by the manufacturer or qualified and authorized personnel to ensure correct functionality and maintain certification.
  • Niviuk Service: Niviuk offers an official workshop for quality service, maintenance, and repairs of flight equipment.
  • Product Registration: Pilots can register their new product on the MyNiviuk section of the Niviuk website to enjoy its benefits.
