Overview

The Nokia 5710 XpressAudio is a mobile phone designed with integrated earbuds, offering a blend of traditional mobile phone functionality with enhanced audio features. This user guide provides comprehensive instructions for operating and maintaining the device, covering everything from basic setup to advanced personalization and safety information.

Function Description

The Nokia 5710 XpressAudio serves as a mobile phone for making calls, managing contacts, and sending messages. Its core functionality includes a keypad for input, a display for navigation, and a built-in camera for capturing photos and videos. A key distinguishing feature is the integrated earbud compartment, which houses and charges a pair of wireless earbuds, making it a convenient all-in-one audio and communication device. The phone supports dual-SIM functionality, allowing users to manage two different SIM cards simultaneously. It also includes a memory card slot for expandable storage, enabling users to store more photos, videos, and music. Beyond communication, the device offers essential utilities such as an alarm clock, calendar, and calculator. For entertainment, it supports music playback and radio. The phone's design emphasizes portability and ease of use, with dedicated keys for volume control, camera zoom, and media playback (fast forward, play/pause/stop, rewind).

Usage Features

Getting Started:

Setting up the phone involves inserting a nano-SIM card and, if desired, a second SIM card and a microSD memory card. The user guide provides clear, illustrated steps for opening the back cover, removing the battery (if present), and correctly positioning the SIM and memory cards. Once the cards are in place and the battery is reinserted, the back cover is closed, and the earbud compartment cover is slid up. To switch on the phone, the power key is pressed and held. The integrated earbuds are activated by simply taking them out of their compartment. Connecting the earbuds to the phone is done through the "Earbuds" menu, where users can select "TWS connect" and then "Devices found" to pair with "Nokia XpressAudio Earbuds."

Charging:

The device and its earbuds can be charged by plugging the charger into a wall outlet and then connecting it to the phone. The earbuds charge when placed in their compartment, with a red indicator light showing charging status. USB charging is also supported, though its efficiency may vary.

Keypad and Navigation:

The phone features a traditional keypad for typing and navigation. The "Menu" key provides access to apps and features, which can be navigated using the scroll key. The end key returns the user to the home screen. Volume keys adjust the phone's audio during calls or media playback. The keypad can be locked by pressing the right selection key followed by the asterisk key, and unlocked by pressing the scroll key and then the asterisk key. Typing involves pressing keys repeatedly for desired characters, using '0' for space, '*' for special characters, '#' to switch character cases, and holding a number key to type a number.

Earbud Usage:

The integrated earbuds offer convenient controls for calls and music. For incoming calls, pressing the touch switch on either earbud answers the call, while pressing and holding it rejects the call. During a conference call, pressing the touch switch three times switches between calls. Ending a call is done by pressing and holding the touch switch. For music playback, pressing the touch switch twice plays the next song, and pressing it three times plays the last song. The control button pauses music, and pressing the touch switch again resumes it.

Finding Lost Earbuds:

If an earbud is lost, the phone has a "Finding earbuds" feature accessible through Menu > Earbuds > Anti Lost > Finding earbuds. This causes the earbud light to flash, aiding in its location.

Disconnecting and Switching Off Earbuds:

To unpair the earbuds, they are removed from their compartment, and the touch switch on either earbud is pressed 5 times within 30 seconds. To switch off the earbuds, the touch switch on either earbud is pressed and held for 8 seconds.

Calls, Contacts, and Messages:

Making a call involves typing the number and pressing the call key. Answering a call is done by pressing the call key. Contacts can be added by navigating to Menu > Contacts > Add new contact, entering details, and saving. Contacts can also be saved from the call log. Messages are sent by selecting Menu > Messaging > New message, typing the recipient's number or selecting from contacts, writing the message, and choosing "Send."

Personalization:

Users can personalize their phone by changing ringtones and other tones via Menu > Settings > Personalisation > Sounds. The home screen wallpaper can be changed through Menu > Settings > Personalisation > Lock screen background > Wallpapers, or by selecting a photo from the gallery. Shortcuts to frequently used apps and settings can be added to the home screen by configuring the right and left selection keys under Menu > Settings > Personalisation > Keypad > Lock screen shortcuts.

Camera and Video:

Photos are taken by selecting Menu > Camera, zooming with the scroll key, and pressing the scroll key to capture. Videos are recorded by navigating to Menu > Camera, scrolling to the video icon, pressing the scroll key to start/stop recording. Captured media can be viewed in the Gallery (for photos) or Videos menu.

Bluetooth:

Bluetooth connectivity is enabled through Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth. Devices can be found and paired by selecting "Devices found" and then "Pair."

Clock, Calendar, and Calculator:

Alarms are set via Menu > Alarm clock > New alarm, with options for repeat days. Calendar events are added through Menu > Calendar > Add new event. The calculator is accessed via Menu > Calculator, allowing users to perform calculations by entering factors and selecting operations.

Maintenance Features

Restoring Factory Settings:

The phone allows users to restore original factory settings, which erases all saved data and personalization. This is done by typing *#7370# on the home screen and entering the security code if prompted. This feature is particularly important when disposing of the phone to ensure all private content is removed.

General Device Care:

The user guide emphasizes several best practices for maintaining the device:

  • Keep Dry: Avoid exposure to precipitation, humidity, and liquids to prevent corrosion of electronic circuits.
  • Cleanliness: Store the device in clean, dust-free areas. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Temperature Control: Avoid storing the device at extreme high or cold temperatures, as this can damage the device or battery and affect performance.
  • Physical Handling: Do not drop, knock, or shake the device, as rough handling can cause damage.
  • Unauthorized Modifications: Do not open the device or make unauthorized modifications, as this can damage it and void warranties.
  • Magnets: Keep the device away from magnets or magnetic fields.
  • Data Backup: Regularly back up important data to multiple locations (device, memory card, computer) to prevent loss.
  • Overheating: If the device feels warm during extended use, it may automatically slow down, close apps, or switch off. If issues persist, it should be taken to an authorized service facility.

Battery and Charger Information:

The guide provides crucial information on battery and charger safety. It advises using only original rechargeable batteries and compatible chargers approved by HMD Global Oy. Continuous charging should not exceed 12 hours. Users are warned against exposing the battery to extreme temperatures, dismantling, cutting, crushing, bending, puncturing, or immersing it in liquids, as these actions can lead to explosion or leakage. If a battery leaks, affected areas should be flushed with water, and medical help sought. Damaged batteries or chargers should never be used. Charging should only be done indoors and not during lightning storms. When a charger is not included, users should use the provided data cable with a USB power adaptor compliant with USB 2.0 and relevant safety standards. When unplugging, users should hold and pull the plug, not the cord. For devices with removable batteries, it's essential to switch off the device and unplug the charger before removal. Accidental short-circuiting of the battery's metal strips should be avoided.

Security and Harmful Content:

Users are advised to be cautious when opening messages, accepting connectivity requests, or browsing the internet, as these actions can expose the device to malicious software or harmful content. Installing antivirus software on connected computers is recommended.

Product and Safety Information:

The manual includes important safety guidelines, such as switching off the device in restricted areas (e.g., aircraft, hospitals, fuel stations) and prioritizing road safety while driving. It also addresses potential interference with medical devices, recommending a minimum separation of 15.3 cm (6 inches) from implanted medical devices. Users are warned about potential hearing damage from high volume levels and advised to exercise caution when using headsets, as it can affect awareness of surroundings. The device meets RF exposure guidelines, and users can find SAR values on www.sar-tick.com. Emergency call procedures are detailed, emphasizing the importance of adequate signal strength and not ending the call until permitted.

By following these guidelines, users can ensure the safe and optimal performance of their Nokia 5710 XpressAudio device.
