CHAPTER 2
Customizing and
Configuring Your NOOK HDs
Your NOOK has many features that enable you to easily customize it and make it
your own. There are also many settings that control how your NOOK operates. In this
chapter, you examine how to customize and configure your NOOK.
Using Custom Wallpaper
You can customize your NOOK by using custom wallpaper images. Wallpaper
appears on the Home pages when you are on the Home screen. (One image appears
on all five pages.) Basically, it’s the background that you always see when you press
the Home button, so something nice is desirable. You also encounter the term live
wallpapers, which are images that change over time, for example, a set of waves that
a whale comes riding through.
If you do a Google search for NOOK wallpaper, you receive many results for where
you can obtain wallpapers. You can also load them to your NOOK with the necessary
images.
Choosing a Wallpaper
The easiest place to change your NOOK’s wallpaper is to go to the Home screen.
Here’s how:
1. Make sure your NOOK is at the Home screen by pressing the Home button.
2. In an area of the Home page where a cover does not appear, press and hold
until the Add to Pages screen appears (see Figure 2.1)—the Home screen
seems to shrink and you get a set of options below the “shrunken” Home
screen.
3. Tap Wallpapers.
4. Tap either Gallery, Wallpapers, or Live Wallpapers (see Figure 2.2).
Wallpaper consists of images provided by B&N or images you have loaded
into the Wallpaper folder. Gallery displays any photographs in JPG, PNG, or
