a B&N rep, the exact specifics of what Power Save does beyond that are a
mystery. To maximize your battery time without charging, do turn on this
feature.
.
Lock Rotation: Turn this on to lock the NOOK’s display orientation to
however you have it at this current time. In other words, if you are in por-
trait orientation (the Home button is at the bottom or top) and turn Lock
Rotation to On, when you flip the NOOK into landscape orientation (the
Home button is at the right or left), the image on the screen will not adjust.
.
Brightness: Press and hold the dot on the slider to adjust the brightness,
which changes as you move the slider.
.
Screen Timeout: This controls the time interval after which your NOOK
puts itself to sleep. This timer is set to 2 minutes by default. To change the
interval, tap Screen Timeout, and then tap the preferred time interval.
TIP: If you set the sleep timer to a time interval that is shorter than the
amount of time it takes you to read a page on the reading screen, your NOOK
goes into sleep mode while you are reading. So, be sure you set the interval
appropriately for your reading speed.
.
Language: Tap this to change between UK English and US English.
.
Personal Dictionary: Do you use shorthand in emails? Words that spell
checkers always want to change? Personal names? Personal Dictionary can
help with that. Tap Personal Dictionary, which shows a new screen. To add
words to the dictionary, tap Add, enter the word, and then tap OK. This
word is added to the dictionary.
.
Default: This lets you know which keyboard you currently are using. For
now, there’s not much beyond giving you information here.
.
NOOK Keyboard: Tap the gear icon to the right of this to see two options.
First, you can change the keyboard input language. Tap Input Languages,
and then tap the check mark for whichever language you want the keyboard
to use for input. However, to change beyond English US, you need to turn
off Use System Language at the top.
The other option you have here is Auto-Capitalization. This setting enables
the NOOK to auto-capitalize while typing. For example, if you type a
period, for the next letter you type, the NOOK capitalizes it. (If you don’t
want to capitalize that letter, tap the Shift key, which enables you to enter a
lowercase letter.)
