Text-to-Speech Output: Tap this to see the options for text-to-speech out-
put. When you do, a few options become available.
To change the settings for the engine (Pico TTS), tap the gear icon to the
right. Tap Language to choose a different language. Tapping Settings for
Pico TTS at this time just shows you a list of installed language packs.
To change the rate of speed at which text is spoken, tap Speech Rate and
choose from Very Slow to Very Fast.
Tap Listen to an Example to hear a sample bit of text spoken at the selected
rate of speed.

Pointer Speed: Tap this to adjust the speed of the mouse/trackpad pointer
(for when you have a mouse or trackpad connected via Bluetooth).

Set Volume for Music and Videos: You can adjust the volume for these
items here in addition to using the buttons at the top of the device.

Set Volume for Notifications: Notifications, such as disconnecting the
NOOK from your computer, emails received, and so on, can be accompa-
nied by a sound. This slider controls the volume of that sound.

Alarms: Tap this to adjust alarms for calendar reminders.

Screen Lock Sound: When you press the Power button for a couple of sec-
onds, the screen locks. If you’d like this to be accompanied with a sound,
turn it on.

Security: Tap this to turn on or off screen locks and change the PIN. If this
is off, turn to On, tap Set Passcode, and enter a PIN. (It can be up to 16
numbers long.) Tap Continue. Re-enter the PIN and tap OK. The PIN is set.
To turn off the passcode, turn Screen Lock to Off. Tap Continue. Enter your
PIN and tap Continue. A passcode is no longer required to access the
NOOK.
To change the PIN, tap Change Passcode. Enter the existing PIN and tap
Continue. Enter your new PIN and tap Continue. Re-enter the PIN and tap
OK. The new PIN is set.
NOTE: Forgot your passcode? The good news is that you can get your NOOK
back. The bad news is that you have to reset your NOOK to factory settings,
which means you lose all content you placed on your device.
