Overview

This document describes the 20 Ton Hydraulic Jack, Model 7525, manufactured by North American Tool Industries. It provides detailed instructions for safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, along with important safety warnings and specifications.

Function Description

The 20 Ton Hydraulic Jack is designed for lifting heavy loads. It operates by using hydraulic fluid to extend a ram, which in turn lifts an object placed on its saddle. The jack is intended for lifting purposes only and should not be used to support a lifted load; separate jack stands are required for support. The device features a release valve for controlled lowering of the load and an extension screw for additional height adjustment.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Lift Capacity: 20 Tons
  • Minimum Lift Height: 9-1/2 inches
  • Maximum Lift Height: 17-7/8 inches
  • Ram Travel: 6 inches
  • Screw Top Adjustment: 2-3/8 inches

Usage Features

The jack is designed for straightforward operation, but emphasizes safety throughout its usage.

Safety Warnings:

  • Always read, understand, and follow all warnings in the manual.
  • Wear eye protection during operation.
  • Inspect the jack before each use for damage or alterations; do not use if in poor condition.
  • Set up the jack on a hard, level surface to prevent tipping.
  • Never exceed the rated lifting capacity of 20 tons; lift only dead weight.
  • Center the load on the jack saddle to prevent damage to seals and hydraulic failure.
  • Use the jack for lifting only; always support lifted loads with jack stands.
  • Use only approved hydraulic fluids.
  • Place the Bottle Jack on a dry, oil/grease-free, solid, level floor capable of supporting the weight of the jack and all accessories.
  • Apply the vehicle's parking brake and chock the tires before lifting.
  • Lift vehicles only at the manufacturer's recommended lifting points.
  • Stay clear from under the load while it is being lifted or supported.
  • Avoid rapid load descent by turning the Release Screw slowly.
  • Do not use for aircraft purposes.
  • Do not leave the tool unattended.
  • Release the tool's load and lower the object before leaving the area.
  • Keep the product out of reach of children.
  • When lifting one wheel, immediately support the load with one jack stand.
  • When lifting an entire front or rear end, immediately support the load with two jack stands, ensuring they are aligned under the vehicle's frame or recommended lifting points and adjusted to the same height.
  • Use the Bottle Jack only on vehicles with frames having lifting points capable of aligning with the jack.
  • Do not use the Bottle Jack with the vehicle's engine running due to carbon monoxide risk.
  • Keep hands, fingers, and feet away from all moving parts during operation.
  • Keep people and animals at a safe distance.
  • Do not allow anyone in the vehicle while using the jack.
  • Never use Bottle Jacks to lift both ends of a vehicle simultaneously.
  • Before lowering, ensure all tools and equipment are removed from under the vehicle.

Operating Instructions (To Raise):

  1. Assemble the jack handle securely.
  2. Close the release valve tightly by turning it clockwise with the narrow end of the jack handle. Do not overtighten.
  3. Place the jack under the vehicle at the proper lifting point. If needed, turn the extension screw counter-clockwise until it contacts the vehicle.
  4. Insert the jack handle into the handle socket and pump the handle to lift the vehicle to the desired height.

Operating Instructions (To Lower):

  1. Remove the handle and use its small end to open the release valve SLOWLY in a counter-clockwise direction. Do not open the release valve more than one full turn.
  2. Once the vehicle is fully lowered, remove the jack. If the extension screw was extended, turn it clockwise until it retracts enough to move the jack away from the vehicle.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the hydraulic jack.

Adding Oil/Lubrication:

  1. Place the jack in an upright position.
  2. Lower the pump and piston to the full down position.
  3. Remove the rubber oil plug.
  4. Fill with a good grade hydraulic oil only, up to the lower rim of the oil fill hole.
  5. Purge the system of air (as described below).
  6. Replace the rubber oil plug.
  7. Periodically lubricate pivoting joints and the screw extension.

Purging Air from Hydraulic System:

  • Air bubbles can become trapped, reducing efficiency.
  1. Open the release valve and remove the oil plug.
  2. Operate the pump rapidly several times to force air out.
  3. Close the release valve and replace the oil plug.
  • Repeat if the jack does not operate normally.

Rust Prevention:

  • Keep the piston, pump, and extension screw in the full down position when not in use.
  • Avoid contact with moisture. If contact occurs, wipe dry and grease/lubricate all jack parts.

California Proposition 65 Warning: The product may expose users to dust containing chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Wear protective gear. The product or its power cord may contain lead, also known to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
