This document provides operating instructions for the Nouveau Convector Heater, model NHCV250. It details the heater's function, important technical specifications, usage features, and maintenance guidelines, emphasizing safety throughout.
Function Description:
The Nouveau Convector Heater is designed for indoor household use to provide warmth. It operates by heating the air, which then circulates to warm the room. The heater offers three heat settings: Low Heat (750W), High Heat (1250W), and Max Heat (2000W), allowing users to adjust the heat output according to their comfort needs and for energy efficiency. Additionally, it includes a "Turbo Switch" that activates a fan to distribute heat into the room at a faster rate. The appliance is equipped with a thermostatic control, enabling it to cycle on and off automatically to maintain a desired room temperature.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Model No: NHCV250
- Supply: 220-240VAC 50Hz
- Wattage: 1700-2000W
- Heat Settings:
- 0: Off
- 1: Low Heat (750W)
- 2: High Heat (1250W)
- 3: Max Heat (2000W)
- Safety Devices:
- Tilt Switch: Automatically turns off the appliance if not in the correct operating position.
- Resettable Thermal Link: Disconnects power at a pre-set overheat temperature and resets after cooling.
- Thermal Fuse: Permanently disconnects the appliance in case of overheating (non-resettable).
Usage Features:
- Assembly: The heater requires the feet to be fitted before use. These are attached to the base of the heater using "1 way screws" for permanent installation, a safety requirement for the New Zealand and Australian market. The main body is turned upside down, feet are aligned with the side moldings, and two screws are used for each foot.
- Placement: Always choose a safe, flat, stable, heat-resistant surface for the heater. It must be kept at least 1 meter away from the front, sides, and rear of the appliance, as well as from textiles, curtains, or any flammable material, to reduce fire risk. The heater should not be placed on bedding or thick/long carpets where openings might be blocked. It is intended for indoor use only and not for commercial or industrial purposes.
- Operation:
- Ensure the heat control switch is in the "Off" (0) position before plugging into the mains supply.
- Insert the power plug into a mains outlet and switch on.
- For initial heating, it's recommended to use the High Heat setting and then switch to Low Heat for economy.
- Heat Control: Select desired heat output (750W, 1250W, or 2000W) using the heat control switch.
- Turbo Switch: Activate the separate On/Off switch on the control panel to engage the fan for faster heat distribution.
- Thermostatic Control: Rotate the thermostat knob clockwise to the maximum position. Once the room reaches a comfortable temperature, slowly turn the knob anti-clockwise until the heater clicks off. The heater will then cycle on and off to maintain this set comfort level.
- Power Cord Management: Ensure hands are dry before handling the plug. The supply cord should not be coiled up during operation, twisted, kinked, or wrapped around the appliance. All cord should be unrolled before use. It is recommended to plug the appliance directly into a wall socket; power boards are not rated for high wattage appliances. If an extension cord is used, it must be correctly specified, undamaged, and used safely. Do not remove the plug from the power socket by pulling the cord; always grip the plug. Do not place the cord under carpet or cover with rugs/furniture; arrange it to prevent tripping hazards.
- Safety Warnings:
- Do not cover the heater to avoid overheating or fire.
- Do not use with external switching devices like timers, programmers, or remote-control systems that switch the heater on automatically, as this poses a fire risk if the heater is covered or positioned incorrectly.
- Never leave the heater unattended when in use.
- Do not use in small rooms occupied by persons unable to leave on their own, unless constantly supervised.
- Do not use if dropped or damaged.
- A slight odor or smoke may occur during the first use due to initial heating of elements; this is normal and should not reoccur.
- Ensure the power cord is not tight, as a partially inserted plug can overheat and cause fire.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Regular cleaning is required for trouble-free operation.
- Unplug the heater from the mains supply and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- The common cause of overheating is dust or fluff deposits. Regularly vacuum clean the air vents and grills to remove these deposits.
- Wipe the exterior of the heater with a damp (not wet) cloth rinsed in hot soapy water to remove dust and dirt.
- Never use abrasive cleaning products, petrol, thinners, or polishing agents.
- Ensure the heater is dry before plugging back into the mains supply.
- Repair: Do not attempt to dismantle the appliance. There are no user-serviceable parts. For service or repair, contact an authorized electrical service technician. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons.
- Storage: Do not operate in areas where petrol, paint, or other flammable liquids are used or stored. Do not place the unit in wardrobes or other enclosed spaces, as this may cause fire hazards.
- General Care: Always unplug the appliance when not in use. Never use the appliance to dry clothes. Do not immerse the appliance in any liquids. Do not use this appliance in the immediate surrounds of a bath, shower, swimming pool, or other liquids.
