Jaw Adjustment cont.
Select a hook and place the bend in the tip of the Vise Jaws by opening
the Vise Jaws to the correct width using the Clamping Lever. Adjust the
width of the Vise Jaws so you can remove the hook without loosening the
Clamping Lever. Remove the hook and place the bend in the gap at the
rear of the jaws (behind O-ring) by turning the Geometry Adjustment
Knob. When you are satisfied with the gap, be sure to gently tighten the
Lock Ring to ensure identical geometry for hooks of the same size.
For Parallel Geometry, set equal gap front and rear.
For Tapered Geometry, set the rear gap greater than the front. We gen-
erally recommend a gap 1½ to 2 times the wire diameter as a starting
point. Figure 3
Place the hook in the tip of the Nova Vise™ and tighten the clamping
lever. A gentle twist should be sufficient to hold the hook. We have
designed the Nova Vise™ with superior holding power so you don’t need
much force to hold your hooks. This is not a typical vise. Over tightening
the jaws may deform your hooks!
If the Clamping Lever handle ends up in a location which interferes with
your tying, simply pull out on the ingenious Clamping Lever handle at the
base of the small black hex head screw and rotate it out of your way.
Push it back in and it will be out of your way while finishing your pattern.
The handle is designed like a small wrench. There are 12 possible posi-
tions, so you can easily locate the Clamping Lever out of your way. Figure

A Few More Features
Nova Vise™ allows you to rotate the entire vise around its own axis allow-
ing you to view all aspects of your pattern. Simply rotate the Drag Clutch
Knob(7) to loosen the vise. The amount of drag is variable depending on
the position of the knob. You can clamp it all the way down to keep the
vise head from moving at all or unscrew it several turns so the vise ro-
tates easily.
You can even remove the knob to remove the vise assembly. In spite of
its removal from the rest of the Nova Vise™, the jaws are still fully func-
tional. With some creativity you can use the vise “streamside” without
having to bring the rest of the vise along.
The upper clamping head and rotating vise assembly can be manipulat-
ed to a variety of different positions. Whether you are right or left hand-
ed, you can move the Nova Vise™ into a configuration that suits you
best: clamping handle in front, clamping handle in back, vise left, vise
right. You can customize the Nova Vise™ to meet your needs as you like.
