Overview

The provided manual describes the n+ Mercedes-Benz Formula E Team eBike, an officially licensed electric bicycle designed for urban and light off-road use.

Function Description

The n+ Mercedes-Benz Formula E Team eBike is an electric bicycle that offers both pedal-powered assist mode and traditional pedal mode. It is designed to provide an efficient and comfortable riding experience with the assistance of an electric motor. The bike is delivered mostly assembled, requiring a few steps for final assembly before use.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Battery Range: 60 km (actual range may vary based on wind/weather conditions, riding terrain, and rider's style/weight).
  • Motor: Enviolo Mid-Drive Motor, designed for efficient riding and 50/50 weight distribution.
  • Power Pack Indicator: Five LED lights on the frame display the remaining battery life. The last light flashes red when the battery is low.
  • Speed: Maximum assisted powered speed of 25 km/h (32 km/h for select countries), in compliance with eBike regulations.
  • Frame Warranty: 5 years (for Alloy Frame and Carbon Frame).
  • Parts Warranty: 2 years (for Forks, Wheel rims/hubs, Bars/stems/seatposts/seat clamp, Brake levers/calipers/cranks, Batteries/controllers/motors, Headset).
  • Pedal Torque: 30 Nm.
  • Rear Wheel Nut Tension: 50 Nm.
  • Front Wheel Nut Tension: 45 Nm.
  • Crank Bolts: 40.3 Nm.
  • Front + Rear Brake Caliper: 6-8 Nm.
  • Control Clamp: 4 Nm.
  • Brakes: 4-5 Nm.
  • Shifter: 3-4 Nm.
  • Brake Disc: 9 Nm.
  • Caliper Mount: 6-8 Nm.
  • Disc Mounting Bolts (6 M5 bolts): 4 Nm.
  • Handlebar Stem Screws (M5): 5-7 Nm.

Usage Features

Riding Modes:

  • Pedal Powered Assist Mode: The bike's power turns ON, and after two revolutions, the electric motor provides assistance. It uses torque-sensing technology to match pedal power with electric motor assistance, performing faster as the rider pedals harder.
  • Pedal Mode: The power button can be switched to the OFF position to ride the bike as an ordinary bicycle without motor assistance.

Controls:

  • Gradient Selector: Located on the handlebar, this allows riders to adjust the gradient or assist level, particularly useful when riding hills or increasing gradients. When stationary, only 60% of the available range can be selected; higher or lower ranges become available once pedaling starts.
  • Power Button: Located underneath the top tube, a dimming red flashing light indicates the bike is off. A single press turns the bike on (button flush against the frame). Pressing it again turns the switch to the OFF position.
  • Intelligent Sensor: Intuitively reads pedal power and matches it with seamless power distribution.

Assembly and Setup:

  • Unboxing: Involves safely cutting tape, lifting the bike by its frame or wheels, and removing small parts boxes containing the charging adaptor, spanner, hex key, user manuals, pedals, and reflectors.
  • Front Wheel Installation: Involves loosening nuts, removing the front brake insert, guiding the wheel onto the front fork, ensuring the brake disc sits comfortably, and tightening axle nuts to 45 Nm.
  • Handlebar Installation: Involves removing hex bolts from the stem clamp, positioning handlebars, tightening bolts, aligning the fork stem clamp, and ensuring smooth fork rotation. Handlebar stem screws should be tightened to 5-7 Nm.
  • Pedal Installation: Pedals are side-dependent (L for left, R for right). The left pedal tightens anti-clockwise, and the right pedal tightens clockwise. Pedals should be tightened to 30 Nm.
  • Saddle/Seat Adjustment: The saddle can be loosened via a cam lock, straightened in line with the top tube, and then tightened. Adjustments for forward/back position and angle can be made by loosening mounting screws and re-securing.
  • Reflector Installation: White reflector fixes to handlebars, red reflector fixes to the rear seat stay.

Battery and Charging:

  • The bike comes with approximately 20% charge and must be charged before first use.
  • Charging Options:
    1. Directly connect the n+EQ Power Adaptor to a powerpoint and then to the charging point located in the seat post.
    2. Remove the seat post by flipping the cam lock, wriggling the saddle up, and pulling the tab on top of the battery to release it from the seatpost.
  • Charging Indicator: RED light indicates charging, GREEN light indicates fully charged.
  • Battery Care: Avoid leaving the battery on charge for extended periods to prevent reduced life cycle. It is recommended to replace the battery after 500 charge cycles.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance:

  • Assembly Support: If support is needed, scan the QR code for global service centers or visit nplusbikes.com.
  • Warranty: The warranty does not cover incorrect assembly or installation of parts. It is recommended to have the bike assembled by a skilled bicycle mechanic.
  • Fastener Tightening: Always tighten fasteners to the correct torque to prevent failure and loss of control. Periodically check saddle adjusting mechanisms.
  • Brake Caliper Check: Spin the front wheel to ensure smooth rolling. If too much tension, loosen the two 5mm caliper bolts, squeeze the right brake lever for alignment, and then re-tighten.
  • Tire Inflation: Remove the cap, twist the valve, and inflate using a pump with a Presta valve attachment (recommended 70-80psi, minimum 65psi, maximum 85psi). Never inflate beyond the maximum pressure marked on the tire's sidewall or wheel rim.
  • Cleaning: Do not wash the eBike with water; only use a dry or damp cloth to clean the frame and parts.

Safety and Disclaimer:

  • First Ride: Choose an environment free from hazards. Familiarize yourself with the power on/off switch, torque sensing, assist, gears, and braking.
  • Road Rules: Always abide by road rules and respect other road and path users.
  • Protective Gear: Wear adequate protection, including a compliant helmet.
  • Distractions: Do not ride with headphones or while operating a mobile phone.
  • Lights: Always use operational and adequate lights, ensuring they are not obscured.
  • Minors: The bike is not intended for minors. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring proper fit, repair, safe operating condition, and understanding of laws and rules.
  • Wet Conditions: Wet weather impairs traction, braking, and visibility. Ride with caution, apply brakes earlier and more gradually.
  • Water Exposure: Do not ride through deep water. Protect electrical connections from excess water.
  • Heat Exposure: Do not expose the battery to high temperatures, or leave/charge the eBike battery outside, in a car, or hot garage, as heat reduces lithium-ion battery life and can cause injury.
  • Brake Application: Applying brakes too hard or suddenly can lock up a wheel, causing loss of control and falls. Excessive front brake application can pitch the rider over handlebars.
  • Modifications: Changing components with non-genuine parts may compromise safety and void the warranty. Adding aerodynamic extensions to handlebars will change steering and braking response.
  • Saddle Fit: An improperly fitting bicycle may lead to loss of control and falls. If the saddle causes pain, numbness, or discomfort, stop riding and consult a dealer.
