Usage Features

The installation process for NSFOCUS Security Products follows a structured procedure:

  1. Installation Preparations: This involves checking the accessory kit against the packing list, ensuring all necessary components (cables, rackmount accessories, rubber pads, bolts, nuts, screws) are present. User-provided tools like screwdrivers, multimeters, ESD wrist straps, and tape are also required. The installation environment must meet specific temperature (0°C–45°C) and humidity (10%–95% non-condensing) requirements, be dust-proof, and have proper grounding. The rack must be secure and compatible with the device.
  2. Mounting onto the Rack:
    • 1U Devices: Involves installing front mounting ears with bolts, then installing rack rails at the rear of the cabinet with nuts and screws, and finally mounting the device onto the installed rails.
    • 2U Devices: Similar to 1U devices, but with more bolts for front mounting ears (eight in total) and rack rails.
    • 6U Devices: These are distributed rack-mounted devices with interface and service boards. The number of AC power supply modules varies based on the number of service boards (e.g., 2 power supplies for 1 service board, 3 for 2 service boards, 4 for 3 service boards, and 5 for 4, 5, or 6 service boards).
  3. Connecting the Power Cable:
    • AC Power Cable: Ensure the device is grounded, turn the power switch to OFF, connect the power cable to the device and the equipment room socket, then turn the power switch to ON. Verify the power LED on the front panel is on.
    • DC Power Cable: For devices with Positronic connectors or binding posts, ensure the power switch is OFF. For Positronic connectors, insert the –48 V DC power supply lead wires into the jacks of the DC power supply socket. For binding posts, connect the positive (+) lead wire (black) to the cathode and the negative (–) lead wire (red) to the anode. Insert the DC power plug and tighten screws. For dual power supplies, repeat the process for the second cable.
  4. Connecting the Network Cable: Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the electrical port on the device and the other end to the peer device. A green network port LED indicates a successful connection.
  5. Shutting Down the Device: For most devices, turn the power switch to OFF. For devices with momentary switches, press and hold the button until the power LED turns off.

The devices offer various working/expansion port configurations, including combinations of electrical, optical, and 10G ports, or empty slots, allowing for flexible network integration.

Maintenance Features

The document provides a basic troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  1. Check Web-based Manager Login: If login is possible, check system, engine, interface, and traffic status. If an interface is DOWN, check physical connections (network and power cables) and LEDs (PWR, STA, network card). If nothing abnormal, contact NSFOCUS support. If system, engine, or traffic status is abnormal, restart and try console login.
  2. Check Console Login: If console login is possible, check system, engine, interface, and traffic status. If an interface is DOWN, check physical connections and LEDs. If nothing abnormal, contact NSFOCUS support. If system, engine, or traffic status is abnormal, fix based on the error message.
  3. If Login is Not Possible:
    • Layer 2 Transparent Deployment: Bypass the security device by directly connecting uplink and downlink devices to restore network connectivity and services.
    • Layer 3 Routing or Out-of-Path Diversion/Injection Mode: Remove the device from the network without affecting routing and services to see if network and services resume.
    • In-Path Transparent Deployment: Switch the device to debugging mode so traffic bypasses the detection engine.
    • Persistent Network Interruption: If the fault persists, power off the device. If the network resumes, the fault is likely due to incorrect device configurations.
  4. Contact Support: If the problem persists or a device/interface failure is confirmed, contact NSFOCUS technical support.

LED indicators provide visual cues for device status:

  • Power LED (PWR): On (working), Off (unavailable/not working).
  • Status LED (STA): Blinking (reading/writing data), Off (idle).
  • Hard Disk Drive LED (HDD): Blinking (reading/writing data), Off (idle/not inserted).
  • Running LED (RUN): On (working).
  • System LED (SYS): Off (unavailable/not working), Orange (high CPU usage), Red (too high CPU usage).
  • Link/Act LED: Green (link established), Off (no link). Yellow (blinking for transmitting/receiving data), Off (no data).
  • Bypass LED: On (bypass enabled), Off (bypass disabled).
  • CMM Status LED (A/S): On (CMM activated), Off (CMM waiting).
  • Status LED (+): Red (BIOS submission in progress), Green (BIOS submission completed).
  • Status LED (STAT): Green (device works properly), Orange (engine works improperly).
  • Status LED (MGR): Green (switch board works properly).
  • Status LED (ACTN): On (Orange) (IPMI connection normal), Off (IPMI connection not set up).

The document also includes notes on product disposal, emphasizing the importance of delivering end-of-life products to qualified recycling stations in accordance with national laws and regulations, and avoiding methods explicitly phased out by the government.
