The NutriBullet is a powerful nutrition extractor designed to transform nutrient-dense greens, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and other healthful foods into silky-smooth, super-portable NutriBlast smoothies. It is more than a blender and more than a juicer, utilizing patented technology to create nutritionally dense drinks. The device is intended for household use and aims to provide a convenient way to incorporate a wide array of nutrients into one's daily diet, fitting an average of 5-7 servings of vegetables and fruits into a single beverage.
The core function of the NutriBullet is "Nutrient Extraction," a process that converts whole food ingredients into NutriBlasts. This process transforms even tough ingredients into a silky-smooth consistency, ensuring that the health benefits of eating the whole fruit and/or vegetable—including fiber, pulp, seeds, and skins—are retained. Unlike traditional blenders or juicers, nothing is left behind. The NutriBullet achieves this through "Cyclonic Action," a patented spinning movement generated by the interaction of the Power Base, Extractor Blade, and Contained Vessel/Cup, combined with gravity. This creates a mini-cyclone that evenly distributes ingredients to the spinning blade, resulting in the unique silky-smooth texture of the NutriBullet beverages. The device is designed to be used with liquids to facilitate this cyclonic action; it is not intended to be used as an ice crusher or without liquids.
To build a NutriBlast, users are advised to follow a general formula: start with 50% dark leafy greens, add 1-2 servings of fruit, 1 serving of healthy fat, 1-3 servings of "boosts" (such as superfood powders, herbs, spices, or protein powder), and fill to the MAX line with liquid (e.g., unsweetened almond/cashew milk, water, non-dairy alternatives, or chilled green/herbal tea).
When operating the NutriBullet, it is crucial to observe several safety precautions. The device should never be operated continuously for longer than necessary to create a recipe, generally less than one minute. Prolonged operation can cause blade friction to heat ingredients and generate internal pressure, which can lead to the cup bursting or contents erupting. If blending for more than one minute, it is recommended to blend in 1-minute intervals, allowing the motor base to shut off completely and waiting at least one minute before starting another cycle. The device should not be run for more than three consecutive 1-minute intervals to prevent overheating and pressure buildup, with a 2-3 minute settling period after the third cycle.
Hot or carbonated ingredients should never be blended in a sealed NutriBullet cup, as this can cause pressurization and violent expulsion of contents. Ingredients and liquids should always be at room temperature or refrigerated (21°C/70°F or cooler). After blending, the contents should be allowed to settle, and any pressure released by slowly unscrewing the container from the blade assembly, pointed away from the face and body. Blended mixtures should not be left in a sealed container for long periods, as sugars can ferment and release gases, building pressure. If not consumed immediately, the blade should be removed, and the container covered with a lid or plastic wrap and refrigerated.
The extractor blade should always be securely attached (hand-tightened) to a NutriBullet cup, and checked for leakage before placing it on the motor base. The device should not be operated without liquid, as this can damage the extractor blade or motor. The extractor blade is not suitable for grinding dry ingredients like grains, cereal, or coffee, as this can also cause damage.
Cleaning the NutriBullet is straightforward. All parts, except for the motor base and extractor blade, are top-rack dishwasher safe. Alternatively, they can be hand-washed with warm, soapy water and rinsed.
For the motor base, it typically does not get very dirty unless liquids leak due to an improperly tightened extractor blade. The motor base should never be submerged in water. It can be wiped down with a damp sponge or dishcloth using warm, soapy water. Special attention should be paid to the white Actuator Tabs on the inside of the motor base to remove any sticky debris; a small brush can be used if necessary. The rubber or plastic liners inside the motor base should not be removed.
For the extractor blade, the gasket should never be removed, as this will permanently damage the blade and cause leakage. If additional disinfecting is desired after washing, the blade can be rinsed with a 10% vinegar/water solution or lemon juice. To ensure complete drying, it is helpful to turn the blade on its side in a dish drainer. The extractor blade should be replaced every 6 months or as needed for optimal performance.
NutriBullet cups and To-Go Lids are top-rack dishwasher safe. The sanitize cycle should not be used, as it may warp the plastic. Users should regularly check the three tabs on the side of the cup for cracking, crazing, breakage, or rounding. Damaged cups should be replaced immediately to prevent personal injury and ensure proper function. A cup with a broken, damaged, or missing tab should never be used, as this can cause the cup and motor base to separate, exposing the blade assembly.
For stubborn cleanup of dried ingredients inside a NutriBullet cup, fill the cup about 2/3 full with room temperature water (21°C/70°F or less), screw on the extractor blade, and place the assembly on the motor base for 20-30 seconds. This will loosen the stuck ingredients, allowing for easy scrubbing and rinsing.
Periodical inspection of all NutriBullet components for damage or wear is recommended. This includes checking the power cord and plug for damage, ensuring blades rotate freely, and verifying that gaskets are seated and undamaged. Actuator tabs on the motor base should be unobstructed, clean, and depress easily. If any component is damaged or malfunctions, discontinue use immediately and contact customer service. Replacement parts, including new NutriBullet cups and extractor blades, can be purchased from the manufacturer's website. It is recommended to replace cups every six months.
The motor base has an internal thermal breaker that shuts off the motor if it overheats. If this occurs, the unit should be unplugged and allowed to cool for an hour before attempting to use it again. The thermal breaker will reset once the unit is unplugged and sufficiently cooled. To prevent fire hazards, the ventilation openings on the bottom of the motor base should be kept free of dust or lint and never obstructed. The NutriBullet should always be operated on a level surface with unobstructed space beneath and around the motor base to permit proper air circulation.
