Overview

The Nuvo Clarinéo is a C-key clarinet, specifically designed for children and adults who may find a full-size Bb clarinet challenging to handle. It is lightweight, easy to manage, and highly durable, producing a beautiful, mellow clarinet tone. With proper care, it requires minimal maintenance and offers years of musical enjoyment. The Clarinéo also serves as an excellent stepping stone to other single-reed instruments, making the transition to a Bb clarinet or saxophone quick and easy.

Function Description

The Clarinéo is comprised of three main parts: the body, the mouthpiece, and the bell. The silicone bell is easily assembled by firmly pushing and twisting it into place, ensuring the Nuvo logo aligns with the front of the instrument. To attach the mouthpiece, insert it into the top of the instrument, taking care not to damage the rubber o-rings. The reed should be aligned with the thumb key located on the back of the instrument. Periodically applying grease to the o-rings helps keep them supple and extends their lifespan.

To change the reed, simply push down on the ligature as shown in the instructions and remove the old reed. It is important to avoid touching the tip of the reed. When inserting a new reed, ensure it is aligned with the tip of the mouthpiece.

The Clarinéo is pitched in the key of C, allowing you to play music written for recorder, flute, piano, or voice. You can also play Bb clarinet music, but be aware that the Clarinéo will sound one full tone higher. For beginners, a free "Play it Today" book and music can be downloaded from the Nuvo-instrumental website, providing material for self-learning or classroom instruction.

Usage Features

The Clarinéo features an integrated ligature, designed for quick and easy use, especially for small hands. Its key work is made from durable acetyl polymer resin, ensuring ease of maintenance. The small tone holes are designed for easy covering, particularly for those with small fingers. Stainless steel pinky rollers facilitate fast transitions between notes. A fully adjustable thumb rest provides a comfortable hand position for players of all sizes. The durable silicone bell allows for quick and easy assembly and disassembly.

The instrument comes with two Nuvo beginner synthetic reeds, which are designed to last a long time with proper care. The set also includes one cane reed. If replacement cane reeds are needed, Eb Clarinet reeds can be requested from a local music store. The Nuvo reeds feature a tab and slot arrangement on the mouthpiece, which helps in correctly positioning the reed. Once the reed is in place, simply release the ligature to secure it. The synthetic reeds by Légère, which fit all Nuvo instruments, are also an option.

The Clarinéo features a lightweight, single-piece body, weighing half as much as a Bb Clarinet, and requires minimal assembly. It is equipped with 100% waterproof, self-adjusting silicone pads, allowing the entire instrument to be washed with warm soapy water. The snap-on keys incorporate integral acetyl springs, enhancing durability and ease of maintenance.

At Nuvo, there is a strong belief in encouraging students to keep their instruments accessible. Instruments are less likely to be used if they remain in their cases. To support this, Nuvo has created the KIO (Keep It Out!) wall hanger for single instruments, as well as a six-instrument hanger for schools. A smart desk stand is also available. These KIO hangers and stands are compatible with the Nuvo jFlute and Student Flute.

Maintenance Features

After each playing session, it is recommended to clean the Clarinéo thoroughly using the supplied pull-through. Periodically, the Clarinéo can be given a good bath in warm, soapy water. This is particularly recommended in school settings where multiple children might share the same instruments. The instrument is designed to withstand plenty of water; it can even be played in the shower or outdoors in the rain.
