Flash Photography in the Manual Exposure Mode [M]
When you are going to use the flash with the shutter speed at 1/100-sec.
or slower (the flash strength is controlled automatically):
Flip up the flash. Set the shutter speed
to 1/100-sec. or less. Refer to the table
below and match the aperture setting
with the distance to your subject, (at a
corresponding F-no. or smaller value).

When you are going to use the flash with
a shutter speed faster than 1/100-sec.:
Flip up the flash. Set the aperture
setting and shutter speed according to
the working distance (see the graph
below).
When natural light is available, the working distance will be longer
than those shown in the above graph. (Actual working distance varies
depending on specific shooting conditions.)
