The Omega MM900 is a low-speed masticating juicer extractor designed to deliver high-quality juice with maximum nutritional value and flavor. This heavy-duty nutrition system features a patented, stone mill-like auger, made of hygienic U.S. FDA-approved melamine, which operates at a slow speed of 80 RPMs. This low-speed mastication process helps to preserve the enzymes and nutrients in fruits, vegetables, and greens, ensuring that the extracted juice retains its full taste and highest nutritional value.
Function Description
The Omega MM900 is primarily designed for juicing a wide variety of produce, including hard and soft fruits, vegetables, wheatgrass, leafy greens, and herbs. Its masticating action effectively crushes and presses ingredients, extracting juice efficiently while minimizing oxidation and heat buildup.
- Fruit Juicing: The juicer efficiently handles both hard and soft fruits, including citrus fruits. It can extract juice from un-peeled fruits, though users may prefer peeled produce for taste.
- Vegetable Juicing: It juices all kinds of vegetables, such as carrots, beets, celery, peppers, and radishes, without compromising their natural flavor or nutritional benefits. The unique extraction process guarantees fresh taste and full nutrition.
- Wheatgrass and Leafy Greens: The MM900 is particularly effective at juicing wheatgrass, kale, cabbage, spinach, and even pine tree needles, allowing users to enjoy the full nutritional benefits of raw foods and juices.
- Herb Juicing: It can extract liquid from various herbs, with celery being a common example.
Usage Features
The Omega MM900 is designed for straightforward operation and includes features to enhance the juicing experience and ensure safety.
- Quick Start Assembly: The manual provides clear, step-by-step instructions for assembling the juicer, including the hopper, chute, drum, locking clip, auger, juice screen, adjustable end cap, pulp container, and juice container.
- On/Off and Reverse Function: The juicer is started by pressing the [ON] button located on the back of the housing. In case of clogging or if the machine stops operating, the [REV] (reverse) button can be pressed 2 to 3 times to push ingredients upward and release the clog, after which the [ON] button can be pressed again to resume normal operation. It is crucial to ensure the auger stops completely before switching between [ON] and [REV] modes.
- Adjustable End Caps: The MM900 comes with two adjustable end caps, each designed for specific juicing needs:
- Adjustable End Cap (Standard): This cap is used for juicing all fruits and vegetables other than celery. For harder produce, turning the end cap counterclockwise tightens the squeeze, increasing pressure for more efficient extraction. For softer or pulpy produce, turning it clockwise loosens the pressure.
- Celery Juice End Cap (with Green Inner Ring): This specialized end cap is designed exclusively for juicing celery. It features a unique green inner ring that facilitates optimal celery juicing. Users are advised to keep celery stalks as whole as possible and avoid cutting them into small pieces when using this cap. Care should be taken not to lose the green insert, and it must be cleaned after each use. Similar to the standard cap, turning it counterclockwise tightens the squeeze for increased pressure, while turning it clockwise loosens it.
- Ingredient Preparation:
- Thoroughly wash all fresh ingredients to remove chemicals.
- Soft produce processes more easily if refrigerated.
- Cut fruits and vegetables into small pieces that fit into the drum chute.
- Gradually feed ingredients into the hopper chute and use the pusher to press them down. Avoid placing metal objects into the hopper.
- For optimal juice extraction, allow the machine to run without interruption until all juice has been extracted.
- Alternating between soft and firm items is recommended, starting with softer ingredients.
- If the pulp clogs the drum, turn the machine [OFF], empty the drum set, reassemble, and resume operation.
- After placing the last piece of produce, let the machine run for a few seconds to ensure all juice is extracted.
- Wheatgrass and Greens Specifics:
- Do not overfill the feed chute; feed small quantities and allow most juice to exit before adding the next item.
- Some juice may exit into the pulp bowl instead of the juice bowl, which is normal until the ejection area fills with pulp.
- For added taste, insert flavor-enhancing items during the first half of the juicing process.
- To dilute strong green drinks, natural sweeteners like lemon, apple, ginger, carrots, or beets can be added.
- Motor Protection: The product incorporates a reset switch and thermal cutoff to protect the motor. If the unit stops running, pressing the reset switch on the bottom of the unit may resolve the issue. If it still doesn't operate, unplug the unit, wait 30 minutes, and try again.
Maintenance Features
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the Omega MM900.
- Easy Cleaning: The juicer offers both handwash and dishwasher-safe options for cleaning.
- Handwash Option: Parts can be thoroughly washed by immersing them in warm water diluted with one or two drops of baking soda or dishwashing soap for approximately 30 minutes.
- Dishwasher Safe Options: When finished using, simply place the parts into the dishwasher, on the top rack.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues:
- Appliance Not Working: Check if the power cord is plugged in correctly, if the drum is assembled and locked into place, and if the overall assembly follows instructions. If issues persist, contact customer service.
- Drum Not Opening: If excessive pulp is inside, press [On] to release it. Check for foreign objects. Use the [Rev] button to push stuck ingredients. Do not force the drum open; contact customer service if it remains stuck.
- Appliance Stops During Operation: Check for large food pieces stuck in the appliance. Refer to the "If the Auger Stops Working" section for using the [Rev] button. If problems continue, contact customer service.
- Fine Lines/Scratch Marks on Auger: These are normal molding marks from manufacturing and not a concern.
- Juice Leaks Over Base: This can occur due to excessive ingredients in the hopper/chute, causing the packing to push away. Avoid forcing too much food into the juicer and ensure the juice flap is closed.
- Juicer Shakes In-Use: This is normal, especially with hard ingredients, as the auger rotates. Slight shaking may also be caused by the motor.
- General Care:
- Keep the appliance clean according to the care and cleaning instructions.
- Unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use, before assembling/disassembling parts, and before cleaning.
- Do not immerse the cord, plug, or motor body in water or other liquids.
- Do not operate the appliance for more than 30 minutes at a time to prevent motor overheating. Allow it to cool for 5 minutes before resuming operation.
- Always unplug the appliance after use by grasping the plug, not the cord.
- When moving the appliance, hold it tightly at the base bottom with both hands, as it weighs approximately 20 lb (9 kg).
