Overview

The OmieBox is a bento box designed for packing both hot and cold lunches, particularly for children. Its primary function is to keep food at desired temperatures and organized within separate compartments.

Function Description

The OmieBox is a versatile lunchbox system that allows users to pack a variety of foods, including warm meals, dry snacks, and moist items. At its core, the OmieBox features an integrated Thermos, which is specifically designed to hold wet foods like soup or yogurt and maintain their temperature. This Thermos is a key component for providing warm lunches. The box also includes several side compartments for dry foods such as crackers or carrot sticks, and can accommodate moist items as long as the liquid content is minimal. A removable divider helps separate different food items within the main compartments, although these sub-sections are not leakproof. The overall design aims to provide a comprehensive solution for packing diverse meals while ensuring food freshness and temperature control.

Usage Features

The OmieBox is designed for ease of use, from initial setup to daily packing. Before first use, it's essential to hand wash all components with warm, soapy water and allow them to dry completely. A crucial step for ensuring the box is leakproof involves installing the lid seal. This seal is pushed into a groove around the perimeter of the bottom tray, and then the lid is closed and pressed down firmly with the palms to activate the seal, ensuring it is smooth and flat.

When packing, the Thermos is prepared by first filling it with hot or cold water and letting it stand for 5 minutes with the lid off, then emptying it. This pre-heating or pre-cooling step helps maintain the food's temperature more effectively. The securing insert is twisted clockwise around the Thermos, and then the Thermos lid is twisted clockwise to seal it. Wet foods are placed directly into the Thermos. The side compartments are suitable for dry foods, but can also hold moist items if the liquid is less than 1 teaspoon per compartment. To close the OmieBox, the lid is folded down and latched, followed by pressing down on the lid with the palms to activate the lid seal. The divider can be used to separate different foods within the main compartments.

The OmieBox is intended for children aged 3 and above. Users are cautioned to exercise extreme care when packing hot foods or liquids due to the risk of scalding, and it's always recommended to test the food temperature before feeding a child. Perishable foods should not be kept in the OmieBox or its components for prolonged periods, and users should follow safe food storage guidelines. While the OmieBox is double insulated and keeps food cool, it's not designed to keep things cold, so an ice pack can be inserted if colder temperatures are desired. It's important to note that the OmieBox should not be used in the microwave or freezer.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and hygiene of the OmieBox. After each use, all components should be hand washed with a non-abrasive sponge. Hand washing is preferred over dishwashers, as the high heat and harsh detergents in dishwashers can damage the OmieBox. A critical daily maintenance step is to remove both the lid seal and the gasket for thorough cleaning. These parts can accumulate residue if not cleaned regularly, so ensuring they are completely dry before re-assembling is important. The gasket, in particular, is vital for the Thermos's leakproof function; if it's not installed correctly after cleaning, the Thermos will leak. The gasket is securely fastened around the recessed area on the bottom of the lid. When the OmieBox is not in use, it's recommended to store it without the lid seal installed. Users are advised against using abrasive cleaners, scrubbers, bleach, or chlorine-containing cleaners on any part of the product. Additionally, care should be taken not to dent the Thermos, as this could compromise its insulation properties. The OmieBox has a hinged lid that is not removable. In case any parts are lost, spare parts are available for purchase from the manufacturer's website.
