.
GENERAL
.
The
engine
is
cranked
by
a
24
volt
starting
motor
(
see
figure
5-1
)
.
When
the
starting
motor
solenoid
is
energized
,
the
solenoid
core
pulls
in
,
shifting
the
pinion
into
engagement
with
the
engine
flywheel
ring
gear
.
The
starting
motor
is
protected
from
over
speeding by
engine
by
an
overrunning
clutch
.
At
the
same
time
,
contacts
in
the
solenoid
close
to
provide
a
circuit
for
the
starting
motor
.
Two
12
volt
batteries
in
series
are
used
.
The
starting
switch
for
this
start
ing
circuit
is
located
in
the
control
cubicle
.

and

the
set
.
A
blower
wheel
alternator
is
utilized
to
recharge
the
batteries
.

discoloration

oxidation

commutator
with
fine
sand
paper
grade
00.
Clean
off
sand
with
compressed
air
.
Use
only
sandpaper
.
