This document describes an oil-filled heater designed for household use, emphasizing safety, operation, and maintenance.
This device is an oil-filled heater, primarily intended for space heating or as a supplementary heat source. It operates by radiating heat in all directions to warm a room. The unit features two power switches with indicator lights and a thermostat control, allowing users to select from three heat settings: LOW (600 watts), MEDIUM (900 watts), and HIGH (1500 watts). The oil within the unit is permanently sealed and does not require refilling. The heater is designed to cycle on and off automatically to maintain a chosen room temperature, with an indicator light illuminating when the heater is actively operating.
Safety Precautions: The manual stresses numerous safety precautions to prevent fire, electric shock, and injury. Users are explicitly warned "DO NOT COVER" the heater with any object. It is crucial to read and save all instructions before use. The heater becomes hot during operation, so bare skin should not touch its hot surfaces. It must be unplugged and allowed to cool for at least ten minutes before moving, using handles if provided. Combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains must be kept at least 3 feet (0.9m) away from the front, sides, and rear of the heater. Extreme caution is necessary when the heater is used by or near children or invalids, and it should never be left operating unattended. The heater must always be unplugged from the electrical outlet when not in use. To disconnect, the control should be turned to OFF, and the plug removed by pulling on the plug itself, not the cord.
The heater should not be operated with a damaged cord or plug, or after a malfunction, or if it has been dropped or damaged. In such cases, it must be returned to the nearest authorized service repair center for examination, electrical or mechanical adjustment or repair. This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor locations where it might come into contact with water, such as near a bathtub or sink. If the heater becomes wet, it must be unplugged from the wall receptacle before touching it, as a wet heater can create an electrical shock hazard. It is not designed for outdoor use.
To prevent overheating of the cord, it should not be covered with carpet, throw rugs, runners, newspapers, magazines, furniture, etc. The cord should be arranged away from trafficked areas to avoid tripping or stepping on it. Foreign objects should not be inserted into any ventilation or exhaust opening, as this can cause electrical shock, fire, or damage. To avoid a fire hazard, the heater should not be covered in any manner and should not be used on soft surfaces (such as a bed) where openings may be blocked or where the heater could fall over. The heater contains hot, arcing, or sparking parts inside, so it should not be used in areas where gasoline, paint, or other volatile or flammable liquids are used or stored.
The use of an extension cord is generally discouraged due to the risk of overheating and fire. However, if an extension cord must be used, it must be a minimum size of 14 AWG, rated not less than 1500 watts, and UL listed. To prevent electrical overload and blown fuses, no other appliances should be plugged into the same outlet or into another outlet wired into the same circuit as the heater. The heater should not be placed near a bed, as objects like pillows or blankets could fall off and be ignited. It should not be used as an integral part of any life support or equipment protection system where its functional failure or misapplication could jeopardize people or things being protected. Using the heater while sleeping is to be avoided. The heater must only be used in an upright orientation as shown in the manual. Any other use is not recommended by the manufacturer and may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
Polarized Plug: The appliance features a polarized plug with one blade wider than the other. This is a safety feature, ensuring the plug fits into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit, it should be reversed and tried again. If it still does not fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted. Users should not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
Caster Assembly: The heater is packed with two caster assemblies that must be installed between the radiator fins at each end of the base pipe to make the unit portable and convenient. To assemble, ensure the heater is unplugged and power switches are Off. The cord should be wound around the cord storage on the side of the unit to keep it out of the way. The heater is then set upside down. The two metal connecting screws of each caster assembly are placed over the base pipe, between the radiator fins on one side of the heater, so that threads on the screws project beyond the pipe. One screw is inserted into each hole on the wheelbase of the caster assembly, and a wing nut is securely fastened on the threaded end of each connecting screw. This procedure is repeated for the other caster assembly on the opposite side of the unit. Finally, the heater is set upright and plugged in.
Choosing a Location: The heater is intended for use only on the floor. Since it radiates heat in all directions, ample space should always be left around it. It should not be placed too close to a wall or any furniture. All combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, paper, clothes, and curtains, must be kept at least 3 feet away. Nothing should be placed on top of the heater. It should not be used in wet or moist locations, such as bathrooms or laundry areas, or in areas where paint or other flammable or volatile liquids are used or stored.
Operating the Heater: Before operating, ensure no other appliances are plugged into the same circuit to prevent a circuit overload. Portable electric heaters are designed for space heating or as a supplementary heat source, not as a main source of heat. To use the heater:
Care and Cleaning: This appliance contains no user-serviceable parts; service should be referred to qualified service personnel. Before unplugging the unit, all controls must be in the Off position. To clean, the heater must always be unplugged from the outlet and allowed to cool thoroughly. Accumulated dust can be removed from heater surfaces with a soft cloth. For more thorough cleaning, a cloth moistened with a solution of mild detergent and water can be used. The heater casing must be dried thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth before operating the unit again. The heater must NOT be immersed in water.
Storage: When storing the heater during the off-season, it should be kept in a dry area. The cord should be coiled around the cord storage at the side of the unit.
