Overview

The Optris CSmicro series comprises non-contact infrared temperature sensors designed for surface temperature measurement. These sensors calculate temperature based on the emitted infrared energy of objects. The sensor housing is made of stainless steel with an IP65/NEMA-4 rating, and the sensor electronics are integrated within the connection cable.

Function Description

The CSmicro series offers various models, each with specific measurement ranges, spectral responses, and output/optics.

  • LT Models (LT15, LT02):
    • Measurement range: -40 to 1030 °C
    • Spectral response: 8-14 µm
    • Output/Optics: Voltage output 0-5/10 V, 15:1 optics (LT15) or 2:1 optics (LT02).
  • 2W Models (2WLT15, 2WLT15H, 2WhsLT, 2W2M):
    • 2WLT15:
      • Measurement range: -40 to 1030 °C
      • Spectral response: 8-14 µm
      • Output/Optics: Two-wire sensor (4-20 mA), 15:1 optics.
    • 2WLT15H:

      • Output/Optics: Two-wire sensor (4-20 mA), 15:1 optics, with a maximum ambient temperature of 180 °C.
    • 2WhsLT:
      • Measurement range: -20 to 150 °C
      • Spectral response: 8-14 µm
      • Output/Optics: Two-wire sensor (4-20 mA), 15:1 optics, capable of detecting the smallest temperature differences (0.025 K).
    • 2W2M:
      • Measurement range: 385 to 1600 °C
      • Spectral response: 1.6 µm
      • Output/Optics: Two-wire sensor (4-20 mA), 75:1 optics.

The sensors are equipped with a green LED that can be programmed for various functions:

  • LED Alarm: Lights up if the object temperature exceeds or falls below an alarm threshold.
  • Automatic Aiming Support: Provides a sighting feature for accurate aiming by automatically tuning the threshold value for LED activation based on the highest object temperature. It adjusts to new objects after a default reset time of 10 seconds.
  • Self Diagnostic: Indicates different sensor states through flash modes (intermittent off for normal, fast flash for overheated, double flash for out of measuring range, intermittent on for not stable, always on for alarm fault).
  • Temperature Code Indication: Displays the measured object temperature as a percentage value using long and short flashes of the LED (e.g., 87 °C is 8 long flashes then 7 short flashes).
  • Off: Deactivates the LED.

    • 2W2M SF: D:S = 75:1.
  • CF Lens (Optional): Allows measurement of very small objects. If used, the transmission value must be set to 0.78 (LT/2WLT) or 0.93 (2W2M). Different versions are available for various sensing heads and housings.
  • Protective Window (Optional): Protects the sensing head optics. If used, the transmission value must be set to 0.83 (LT/2WLT) or 0.93 (2W2M).
  • Air Purge Collars (Optional): Keep the lens clean from dust, smoke, fumes, and other contaminants. Requires oil-free, technically clean air (approx. 2-10 l/min). Available in standard and laminar air purge versions.
  • Mounting Accessories: Various brackets and forks are available for adjustable mounting in one or two axes.
  • USB-Kit (Optional): Includes a USB programming adapter, terminal block, and software CD (CompactConnect) for digital communication, sensor setup, remote control, signal processing adjustments, and output/input programming.
  • Emissivity Determination:
    • Contact Method: Measure actual temperature with a thermocouple, then adjust emissivity on the IR thermometer until it matches.
    • Sticker Method: For temperatures up to 380°C, place a special plastic sticker (emissivity dots, part number: ACLSED) on the object, set emissivity to 0.95, measure the sticker's temperature, then adjust emissivity for the adjacent area to match.
    • Paint Method: Cover a part of the object with black, flat paint (emissivity 0.98), set the IR thermometer's emissivity to 0.98, measure the painted surface, then adjust emissivity for the adjacent area to match.

Maintenance Features

  • Lens Cleaning: Blow off loose particles with clean compressed air. Clean the lens surface with a soft, humid tissue moistened with water or a water-based glass cleaner.
  • Caution: Never use cleaning compounds containing solvents for the lens or housing.
  • Mechanical Installation: Use only the thread for mechanical installation. Avoid mechanical violence on the sensor head to prevent damage and warranty expiry.
  • Ambient Temperature: Avoid abrupt changes in ambient temperature.
