Overview

The Oregon Scientific Model JW102 is a Radio Controlled Wireless Weather Station designed to provide comprehensive weather information and timekeeping.

Function Description

The JW102 serves as a multifunctional weather station, offering a range of features for both indoor and outdoor monitoring. Its primary function is to display time, date, and weather conditions. The device is radio-controlled, meaning its time and date are automatically synchronized with the time signal transmitted from Germany (DCF). This ensures accurate timekeeping without manual adjustment.

The main unit features a clear, easy-to-read LCD display that is divided into three main windows:

  • Clock Window: Displays the current time, year, signal strength indicator, daylight savings time (DST) status, and alarm icons.
  • Calendar and Moon Phase Window: Shows the month, date, day of the week, alarm time, and the current moon phase.
  • Weather Forecast and Temperature Window: Presents current indoor and outdoor temperatures, maximum/minimum temperature records, and the current channel being monitored. It also includes a weather forecast indicator based on atmospheric pressure changes.

The weather station can receive and display readings from up to three remote sensors (transmitters). This allows for monitoring of temperatures in different locations. The 433 MHz wireless technology eliminates the need for wired installation, offering flexibility in sensor placement.

Key Functions and Features:

  • Radio Controlled Time Signal: Automatic synchronization of time and date with the DCF signal. The unit attempts to receive the signal at 2:00, 8:00, 14:00, and 20:00 daily. A signal strength indicator shows reception quality in four levels: No signal, Weak, Acceptable, and Excellent.
  • Daylight Savings Time (DST): Automatically switches when DST is in effect, displaying "DST" during summer.
  • Manual Time and Calendar Setting: Allows manual adjustment of time and calendar if the radio-controlled signal is unavailable. Settings include Year, Month, Date, Hour, Minute, Second, Day language (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian), and a +/-23 hours time difference.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Displays indoor and outdoor temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit. It records and displays maximum and minimum temperatures.
  • Weather Forecast: A built-in barometer detects atmospheric pressure changes to predict weather conditions for the forthcoming 12-24 hours. Forecast icons include Sunny, Slightly Cloudy, Cloudy, Rainy, Stormy, and Snowy. The "Snowy" icon is displayed when the outdoor temperature is below -3°C (26°F), regardless of atmospheric pressure.
  • Moon Phase Display: Shows 8 different moon phases, changing according to the lunar calendar.
  • Dual Alarm Function: Features two independent alarms (alarm1 and alarm2). Users can set specific alarm times.
  • Snooze Function: When an alarm sounds, pressing the SNOOZE key stops the current alarm and activates a snooze function. The alarm will sound 13 times in 5-minute intervals, with a total duration of 60 seconds.
  • Temperature Pre-Alarm: Can be set to sound 30 minutes earlier than the main alarm, but only when the outdoor temperature is below -3°C (26°F). This function requires the main alarm to be active.
  • Channel Selection: The main unit can monitor up to three remote sensors. Users can switch between channels manually or set it to automatically display channels in sequence.
  • MAX/MIN Temperature Records: Allows users to view and delete the highest and lowest temperature records.
  • 12/24-Hour Format: Switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time display.
  • Month-Date/Date-Month Format: Switch between M-D and D-M display formats for the calendar.

  • Protection: Avoid excessive force, shock, dust, temperature, or humidity. Do not immerse the unit in water.
  • Ventilation: Do not cover ventilation holes with items like newspapers or curtains.
  • Internal Components: Do not tamper with the unit's internal components, as this will invalidate the warranty.
  • Battery Disposal: Dispose of old batteries separately for special treatment, not as unsorted municipal waste.
  • Product Disposal: When disposing of the product, ensure it is collected separately for special treatment and not as normal household waste.

Troubleshooting:

  • If "---" appears on the LCD for temperature readings, it indicates no signal reception or interference. Relocate the clock or transmitter to ensure they are within effective range and away from interfering sources. If issues persist after several attempts, perform a thorough reset.
  • The unit's technical specifications and manual contents are subject to change without notice.
