Overview

The Oregon face shield is a personal protective equipment designed to safeguard the user's eyes and face from mechanical impacts and liquid splashes. It is available in several configurations, each identified by a unique part number and composed of specific components. The various part numbers are:

  • OREGON® PN Q515061: Comprises components 609729, 609730, and 566093.
  • OREGON® PN Q515062: Comprises components 609729, 609730, and 609731.
  • OREGON® PN Q515063: Comprises components 609732 and 609731.
  • OREGON® PN Q515064: Comprises components 609732 and 566093.
  • 518773: This number corresponds to component 609731.

Function Description:

The face shield is intended to protect the user's eyes and face from injuries caused by mechanical impacts or splashes of liquids. It is crucial to note that the mesh visor (566093) does not protect against liquid splashes, UV, or infrared radiation. The face shield is designed for continuous wear during exposure to hazards. In case of discomfort, irritation, or damage to the shield, the user should immediately leave the work area.

Important Technical Specifications:

The face shield complies with the requirements of European Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and European standards EN 166:2001 and EN 1731:2006 for personal eye protection.

The markings on the face shield's frame and visor indicate its protective capabilities and performance characteristics. These markings include:

Frame Markings:

  • CE: CE Certification, indicating compliance with European safety standards.
  • S: Symbol for protection against increased robustness, with an impact speed of 5.1 m/s.
  • F: Symbol for protection against high-speed particles, low energy (45 m/s).
  • B: Symbol for protection against high-speed particles, medium energy (120 m/s).
  • 1: Optical Class 1, indicating high optical quality suitable for continuous work.
  • OREGON: Manufacturer identification.

Visor Markings:

  • CE: CE Certification.
  • S: Symbol for protection against increased robustness, with an impact speed of 5.1 m/s.
  • F: Symbol for protection against high-speed particles, low energy (45 m/s).
  • B: Symbol for protection against high-speed particles, medium energy (120 m/s).
  • 3: Symbol for protection against liquid droplets and splashes (for non-mesh visors).
  • EN 1731: Reference standard number for mesh visors.
  • EN 166: Reference standard number for non-mesh visors.
  • OREGON: Manufacturer identification.

It is important to note that if the symbols S, F, B, and A are not common to both the visor and the frame, the lowest protection level applies to the entire face shield.

Usage Features:

  • Storage: When not in use, the face shield should be stored in a clean, dry plastic bag or box to protect the visor from air and dust.
  • Replacement Parts: Only original spare parts should be used. When replacing the visor, ensure compatibility of markings between the new visor and the existing frame.
  • Service Life: The face shield should be regularly inspected for damage. If it becomes brittle, the visor must be replaced. If parts of the protection or the protection itself need replacement, recycled materials as indicated on the product should be used. With proper storage and use, the face shield can last over 3 years, but it is recommended to replace it every 2-3 years.
  • Transport Packaging: To prevent exposure to air and dust, the face shield (including the headgear and visor) should be kept in its original packaging, which typically consists of a plastic bag, box, or blister.

Maintenance Features:

To maintain the face shield in good condition:

  1. Do not use abrasive materials. Clean and rinse the face shield in warm soapy water, then dry it with a soft cloth.
  2. Any part of the face shield that comes into contact with the wearer should be disinfected with alcohol.

Warnings and Important Considerations:

  • This product provides face protection against moderate impact hazards but is NOT unbreakable.
  • Do not modify or alter the face shield.
  • A scratched or damaged visor reduces visibility and significantly diminishes protection; it must be replaced immediately.
  • The face shield does not have a specific filtering action. It does not protect against splashes of molten metal, hot solids, or electrical hazards.
  • The mesh visor (566093) does not protect against liquid splashes, UV, or infrared radiation.
  • Always verify with a competent person that the appropriate protection has been received for the working conditions; consult applicable European standards.
  • Materials that may come into contact with the wearer's skin could cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
  • For individuals wearing ophthalmic spectacles, high-speed particle protectors can cause shocks, posing a danger to the user.

The CE approval for the face shield is provided by BSI Group (Notified Body No. 0086) and CRITT Sport Loisirs (Notified Body No. 0501). The manufacturer is BLOUNT EUROPE SA. The EU Declaration of Conformity is available online.
