Congratulations on your purchase of an Orion
Dynamo. In addition to powering your important
astronomical instruments, the Dynamo also serves
as a power supply for other 12V devices that have
a cigarette-lighter adapter. It includes a flashlight
with a red cover for night-vision preservation, as
well as an 800,000-candlepower spotlight for
emergencies or for setting up and breaking down
gear. The Dynamo can even help start your car if
its battery is drained!
1. Operation
Fully charge the Dynamo before using it for the
first time.
Powering 12-Volt Devices (12V/10A output)
The Dynamo will operate up to two devices that are pow-
ered by a 12V/10A car cigarette lighter. Set the power switch
(Figure 1) to the “ON” position and the green power indica-
tor LED will shine. Slide open the cover over the 12V/10A
output socket and insert the device’s 12V power plug into the
socket. The total amperage of the 12V devices together must
not exceed 10 amps.
Powering Other Devices (3V/6V/9V output)
The Dynamo has three separate output jacks that can be
used to power devices requiring 3, 6, or 9 volts, respectively,
and no more than 1 amp. To use these jacks, simply turn the
power switch to the “ON” position and insert the plug into the
appropriate output jack.
Operating the 12V Flashlight
The 12V flashlight located on the top of the Dynamo is a medi-
um power light that can be used to provide light to a small
area. The flashlight can be covered with the red filter to pre-
serve night vision under dark skies.
To operate the flashlight, the power switch must be in the “ON”
position. Press the flashlight button (Figure 1) once to produce
a constant light. Pressing the button a second time will cause
the flashlight to flash on and off continuously. Pressing the
button a third time will turn the flashlight off.
