Overview

This document describes the Orium Automatic Clock Ø36 cm, a wall clock designed for use in Europe, featuring an automatic time adjustment mechanism for daylight saving time (DST).

Function Description

The Orium Automatic Clock is a new-generation wall clock equipped with an automatic movement that handles summer/winter time changes automatically. This functionality is managed by a mini-program integrated into the movement, specifically designed for use in Europe (based on Western European time). Manual time setting is also possible by simply turning a wheel, similar to a basic quartz movement.

The clock offers excellent readability due to its large black numerals and broad hands. It is designed for low power consumption, with a battery life of up to 5 years for the main movement and approximately 6 years for the integrated button cell.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Movement: Automatic movement for summer/winter time changes (DST).
  • DST ON/OFF Switch: An integrated switch allows users to activate or deactivate the automatic DST change function.
  • Composition: The clock features an ABS frame and a protective mineral glass.
  • Color: Glossy black.
  • Diameter: Approximately 36 cm.
  • Power Source: The clock operates on 3 x AA/LR6 batteries (not supplied) for the main movement. Additionally, a CR2032 button cell is integrated into the movement (included) to power the internal program for automatic time changes, with an estimated lifetime of 6 years.

Usage Features

Installation: To install the clock, insert the 3 AA/LR6 batteries (not supplied) into the battery compartment located on the back of the clock. Ensure correct polarity (+/-) as indicated, as incorrect insertion may damage the product.

Time Setting: To set the time, turn the time adjustment wheel on the back of the clock clockwise until the desired time is displayed.

Automatic Summer/Winter Time Changeovers: Once the time is set, no further action is required for automatic time changes. The clock will automatically adjust for summer and winter time thanks to the internal program and the integrated button cell. The DST ON/OFF switch must be in the "I" (ON) position for this feature to work.

  • Summer Time Start: On the last Sunday of March each year, at 1:00 AM, the hands will automatically advance by 1 hour to 2:00 AM (summer time). This adjustment takes approximately 4 minutes.
  • Winter Time Start: On the last Sunday of October each year, at 2:00 AM, the hands will automatically move back by 1 hour to 1:00 AM (winter time). This adjustment takes approximately 44 minutes (nearly a full rotation of the clock).

Disabling Automatic Time Change: If you wish to deactivate the automatic summer/winter time change function (e.g., in countries where DST is not observed), position the DST ON/OFF switch on the back of the clock to "O" (OFF). To reactivate the function, move the switch back to "I" (ON). By default, the clock is shipped with the function activated ("I" position). Switching the DST ON/OFF from ON to OFF or vice versa will not affect the current time displayed on the clock.

Maintenance Features

Battery Replacement: If the clock starts to run slow or displays an incorrect time, the AA/LR6 batteries need to be replaced with new ones.

Memory Function: Thanks to the integrated button cell within the movement, the clock retains its recorded time data.

  • Replacement within 30 minutes: If new AA/LR6 batteries are inserted within 30 minutes of removing the old ones, the clock will automatically adjust to the correct time. The minute and second hands will advance on their own until the correct time is displayed.
  • Replacement after 30 minutes: If more than 30 minutes pass before inserting new AA/LR6 batteries, you will need to manually set the time using the adjustment wheel on the back of the clock.

Troubleshooting (Failure Index):

  • Clock running slow or displaying incorrect time: Replace the 3 AA/LR6 batteries with new ones, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Clock not automatically switching for summer/winter time: Check that the DST ON/OFF switch is set to the "I" (ON) position.
  • Button Cell Lifetime: The integrated button cell powers the internal processor for automatic time changes. Its lifespan is approximately 6 years. After this period, if the clock no longer automatically adjusts for DST, the button cell is likely depleted. In this case, you will need to manually adjust the time for DST changes. It is strongly advised not to replace the button cell yourself and not to open the movement.

Disposal Information: Batteries should never be thrown away or incinerated. They must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations concerning chemical waste. This product complies with the WEEE and ROHS directives. When discarding the unit, adhere to local rules and regulations.
