The Orkan Portable Evaporative Cooler - 5L is a versatile appliance designed for air ventilation and humidification in indoor areas. It is intended for household use only and should not be used for commercial purposes. This cooler operates by an evaporative cooling mechanism, which activates to reduce the temperature of the surrounding air, providing a refreshing environment.
Function Description
The Orkan Portable Evaporative Cooler offers multiple modes of operation to suit various preferences and needs:
- Fan-Only Mode: In this mode, the fan speed can be manually controlled between high, medium, and low settings. This allows for simple air circulation without the cooling function.
- Night Mode: Designed for quieter operation and energy saving, Night Mode automatically transitions the fan speed from medium to low after a period of 15 minutes. This helps reduce energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable environment for sleeping.
- Natural Mode: This mode simulates a natural breeze by automatically transitioning the fan speed through high, medium, and low settings, and even turning off periodically, to create a varying airflow. This provides a more dynamic and natural feeling of air movement.
- Cooling Mode: When activated, the evaporative cooling mechanism comes into play. This process uses water and ice packs to cool the air, making it ideal for humidifying and lowering the ambient temperature.
The appliance also features an oscillation function, which can be activated to move the vertical louvres, distributing air more widely across the room. The horizontal louvres can be manually adjusted to further direct the airflow.
A convenient timer function allows users to set the appliance to turn on or turn off after a specified period, ranging from one to seven hours. This feature is useful for pre-cooling a room or ensuring the unit switches off automatically after a certain time.
Usage Features
Before first use, the cooler should be placed on a stable and level surface, at least 0.5m away from walls, furniture, and curtains to ensure proper ventilation and prevent overheating. The remote control requires two AAA batteries, which must be inserted correctly according to polarity markings.
Filling the water tank is a straightforward process:
- Turn off and unplug the appliance.
- Turn the water tank locking clip clockwise 90 degrees and gently pull out the water tank until it stops.
- Place the two pre-frozen ice packs into the water tank.
- Fill the water tank with fresh water up to the maximum fill line. It is important not to overfill or underfill the tank.
- Gently push the water tank back into the appliance until it stops, then turn the locking clip anti-clockwise 90 degrees to secure it.
For optimal performance, it is recommended to use the appliance in well-ventilated areas. Doors and windows should be open to allow free airflow, and the cooler should ideally be placed near an open window or another source of ventilation. The appliance should not be used in enclosed or sealed spaces.
The control panel on the unit and the remote control provide easy access to all functions:
- Power Button: Turns the appliance on and off.
- Oscillation Button: Activates or deactivates the vertical louvre oscillation.
- Fan Speed Button: Cycles through high, medium, and low fan speeds (only manually controllable in Fan-Only Mode).
- Mode Button: Selects between Fan-Only, Night, and Natural modes.
- Timer Button: Sets the turn-on or turn-off timer.
- Cooling Mode Button: Activates or deactivates the evaporative cooling function.
Maintenance Features
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and efficient operation of the Orkan Portable Evaporative Cooler. Always ensure the appliance is turned off and unplugged from the socket-outlet before performing any cleaning or maintenance tasks to prevent electric shock. Electrical parts should never be immersed in water or other liquids, and the appliance should not be held under running water.
General Cleaning:
- Use a soft cloth to wipe away any dust or debris from the surface of the appliance.
Water Tank Cleaning & Maintenance:
- The water tank should be cleaned and maintained every two weeks to prevent the growth of mould, mildew, and bacteria. Do not use boiling water for cleaning.
- To empty the water tank: Turn off and unplug the appliance. Turn the water tank locking clip clockwise 90 degrees and pull out the tank. Turn the water pump locking clip clockwise 90 degrees and remove the water pump. Fully remove the water tank and empty it.
- To decalcify the water tank: Add 1 litre of warm water and 0.5 litres of vinegar, swish it around to cover the bottom and sides, and let the solution sit for at least one hour.
- After decalcification, empty the solution and rinse the tank thoroughly with warm water.
- Dry the water tank with a soft cloth and replace it, ensuring the water pump is re-fitted and locked, and the tank is secured with its locking clip.
Honeycomb Filter Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Turn off and unplug the appliance.
- Gently pull on the honeycomb filter casing handle to remove it.
- Turn the honeycomb filter locking clip anti-clockwise 90 degrees and remove the honeycomb filter from its casing.
