Overview

The Osprey UNLTD AirScape is a meticulously engineered carrying solution designed for adventurers seeking unparalleled comfort, durability, and versatility on the trail. This series of packs integrates technologically advanced materials and a suite of adjustable features to ensure an optimal fit and carrying experience, even with heavier loads.

At its core, the pack features the Osprey UNLTD AirScape Suspension, which is engineered to provide a remarkably comfortable carry. This suspension system is complemented by a high carbon stainless steel frame, offering robust support for substantial loads. The frame integrates seamlessly with a vacuum-formed polycarbonate framesheet, which maintains a consistent close-to-body fit and provides specific flex characteristics and ventilation. Vertical channels molded into the framesheet prevent collapse under load, while horizontal channels prevent barreling of the backpanel, ensuring a consistent fit. All channels also contribute to ventilating the backpanel, maintaining comfort during extended use.

A standout feature is the AutoLift System, which eliminates the need to constantly adjust load lifters while hiking. This system automatically engages the upper frame of the pack, keeping the load stable and close to the back. It works in conjunction with the CamLock Torso Adjustment System, allowing for quick and easy setting of the optimal shoulder strap position. The CamLock system utilizes micro-adjustable, self-locking cams to facilitate precise torso length adjustments even while the pack is worn, ensuring a perfect fit. Torso length guidelines are provided to help users quickly confirm that the harness is set evenly on both sides.

The pack's carry system is further enhanced by a 3D Printed FitScape Lumbar with Carbon DLS Technology. This advanced lumbar pad is uniquely supportive, with its flex and shape tuned to evenly distribute load and reduce pressure points. Its open structure promotes ventilation and reduces heat buildup, while a polymer compound grips securely to enhance load transfer and prevent slippage. Molded EVA padding throughout the system provides durable cushioning and ventilating channels for air movement and cooling.

The Fit-On-The-Fly Hipbelt is highly evolved and adjustable, designed to deliver the right amount of wrap for ultimate comfort. A hook/loop overlay securely anchors the frame to the hipbelt, ensuring outstanding load transfer and allowing for easy length adjustment. Silicone grip stripes prevent slippage, further enhancing stability. The ErgoPull Hipbelt Adjustment provides natural leverage, making it easy to tighten the hipbelt sufficiently to properly support the load. The customizable hipbelt pads extend from the lumbar to accommodate different hip shapes and sizes, allowing for a fine-tuned fit. Ideally, the padding should extend beyond the front edge of the iliac crest to reduce pressure on sensitive areas. Users can adjust the hipbelt by loosening the webbing, disengaging the hook-and-loop closure, and guiding the padded hipbelt in or out from behind the lumbar. Firmly re-engaging the closure and using white guideline markings on the padded hipbelt helps maintain even alignment.

For convenience, the pack features a sternum strap that easily tracks up and down for optimal positioning and comfort. The buckle includes a built-in safety whistle, a useful feature for emergencies.

The Osprey UNLTD AirScape offers exceptional versatility in its storage and access options. The Convertible Top-Lid Daypack is a key feature, allowing the 8L capacity top lid to quickly transform into an 18L daypack. This is achieved by unzipping a U-shaped compartment and pulling out harness straps, which can then be buttoned to standard top lid buckles. The lid can be removed from the pack by disconnecting four side release buckles. When reattaching or adjusting the fit of the top lid, it can be flipped over to access and adjust the buckles that connect to the backpanel, helping to eliminate slippage.

For situations where the top lid is not needed, a Zip-away FlapJacket covers the main opening. This allows the pack to be used without the lid, reducing weight or when less capacity is required. To use it, the FlapJacket is pulled from a zippered pocket at the backpanel side of the main drawcord opening and connected to the straps that normally secure the top lid.

Large panel access is provided through a U-shaped zippered opening that extends from the upper side panels almost to the bottom of the front panel, offering convenient access to the main compartment's contents. This durable #10 YKK zipper is protected by laminated zip flaps to prevent snagging and protect against rain and wear.

Twin front pockets, each with a 5L capacity, keep essential items like jackets, food, and maps handy. Large zip flaps protect the zippers, and an upper side compression strap helps secure the contents.

The pack also includes large, versatile hipbelt pockets with TPU anti-abrasion panels. The right side features an open stretch woven pocket, ideal for a water bottle or quick stashing of a hat or gloves. The left side combines an enclosed pocket with a weather-resistant, coated zipper and an open stretch woven pocket for additional quick-access storage. Both sides are printed with TPU stripes to prevent abrasion.

A compression divider for sleeping bag storage helps keep gear organized and compresses a sleeping bag or clothing into the lower part of the pack. Removable sleeping pad straps, made from 15mm webbing, can be easily adjusted for length and unthreaded if not needed.

Custom, variable-width woven ski loops and tuck-away axe loops securely hold skis and ice axes. The extra-dense webbing enhances durability and makes it easier to insert and remove tools. These loops can also be tucked away into a fabric sleeve when not in use.

An externally accessed reservoir sleeve is located at the top of the backpanel. The zipper has two sliders that can be parked to allow the hose to exit on either side, accommodating user preference. Injection-molded hydration hose routers on both shoulder straps provide a stable, easy-to-use guide for the hydration hose.

The Stow-On-The-Go trekking pole attachment allows for quick attachment and carrying of trekking poles while wearing the pack. This involves inserting the basket end of the poles into an elasticized loop on the lower left side of the pack and securing the handles in a loop on the left harness strap with a cord lock.

For protection against the elements, the pack includes a high tenacity nylon ripstop raincover, stored in a zippered pocket at the base. This ultralight raincover features a PU inner coating and a silicone outer finish for excellent water resistance and durability, with fully taped seams ensuring waterproof performance. An elastic drawcord cinches the raincover securely over the pack, and its sleeve opens at two points to allow the hipbelt to pass underneath, securing it firmly.

When traveling, especially by air, the Custom Airporter Travel Cover with lockable zippers provides a convenient solution to protect the pack from damage. It offers easy loading, full coverage, lockable zipper sliders, and a convenient carry strap.

The pack is built with super strong and break-resistant YKK buckles, featuring smooth-operating Delrin buckles that balance weight and strength.

Maintenance features are implied through the design and material choices. The use of high tenacity nylon with UHMWPE double ripstop grid in the main fabrics significantly improves abrasion resistance, tear strength, and overall durability, reducing the need for frequent repairs. The PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish on the fabrics helps repel water, contributing to the pack's longevity and performance in wet conditions. The bluesign® approved recycled high tenacity nylon used in the bottom fabric further underscores a commitment to durable and sustainable materials. The robust construction, including laminated zip flaps and durable zippers, minimizes wear and tear.

The Osprey UNLTD AirScape series is designed to be a reliable companion for any adventure, offering a blend of advanced features, comfort, and durability that caters to the demands of serious outdoor enthusiasts.
