Overview

This document describes a zip wire system, specifically a "heart" shaped trolley, designed for recreational use.

Function Description

The zip wire system allows a single user to travel between two fixed points, typically trees or sturdy constructions. The "heart" shaped trolley is the primary component that the user holds onto while traversing the wire. The system includes components for securing the cable, tensioning it, and ensuring safe operation. It is designed for continuous supervision by an adult and is intended for users aged 3 and above, with a maximum weight of 150 kg.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Max User Weight: 150 kg
  • User Age: 3+
  • Overhead Support Requirement: The tree, branch, or construction to which the zip wire is attached must be able to support a weight of 300 kg.
  • Minimum Safety Distance: A minimum distance of 2 meters must be maintained between the product and any obstacles (walls, fencing, etc.).
  • Ground Surface: The surface underneath the product should be flat and shock-absorbing. Tarmac, concrete, or other hard surfaces are not suitable.
  • Cable Height Requirements: The installation requires one end of the cable to be mounted at a higher level than the other. The specific heights depend on the user's height and the distance between the fixing points. A table is provided to guide these measurements, with distances ranging from 12.5m to 24.5m and user heights from 1.2m to 1.8m. For example, for a 1.2m user, the lowest fixing point is 2m, and the highest fixing point varies from 2.3m (for a 12.5m span) to 2.9m (for a 24.5m span).
  • Cable Components:
    • Zip Wire: The main cable for traversal.
    • Cable (wedged): A shorter cable with two loops at the end, used for creating the initial loop around the tree/construction.
    • Cable Tensioners: Used to tighten the main cable.
    • Nut Caps for Cable Spanner: Protective caps.
    • Trolley: The "heart" shaped device the user holds.
    • Cable Spanner: A tool for tensioning the cable, consisting of a spanner and a rubber sleeve.

Usage Features

  • Adult Supervision: The zip wire must always be used under the continuous supervision of an adult.
  • Assembly and Site Selection: Adult assembly and supervision are required for unpacking, assembly, and selecting the appropriate site and tree.
  • Platform Start: Users should always start from a secure and stable platform.
  • Handhold: Users must firmly hold the trolley with both hands (or the rope of a monkey swing if applicable).
  • Release Point: The trolley should only be released when it has reached a complete standstill and the user's feet can be placed on the ground/platform.
  • Clothing: Loose-fitting clothing (ponchos, scarves, etc.) should not be worn due to the risk of entrapment.
  • Weather Conditions: The zip wire should not be used when the construction or trolley are wet.
  • Approved Accessories: Only the KBT monkey seat with a special D-shackle is permitted to be attached to the trolley. The use of any other seats or ropes is considered inappropriate and dangerous.
  • Installation Process:
    1. Mark the correct heights on both fixing points based on the provided cable height instructions.
    2. Create a loop with the short cable B around the tree/construction.
    3. Open the cable spanner as far as possible.
    4. Attach the cable spanner to the loop around the tree 1 construction.
    5. Pull the main cable to the other fixing point, create a loop, position the cable tensioner, pull the cable as tight as possible, and close the cable tensioner. Ensure cable tensioners are not too close to the tree/construction.
    6. Tension the cable at the other fixing point to its maximum using the cable spanner. If not sufficiently tensioned, loosen the tensioner at the second fixing point, reopen the spanner, and repeat step 5.
    7. Cut the excess cable with sharp pliers and apply cellar tape to the loose end to keep wires together.
    8. Pull the rubber sleeve over the cable spanner and place the nut caps.

Maintenance Features

Regular inspection and maintenance are crucial to minimize the risk of accidents. The frequency of these checks depends on factors such as usage intensity, vandalism levels, coastal location, air pollution, and equipment age. Special attention should be given to the cable tensioners, cable spanner, and trolley.

  • Routine Visual Inspection (Weekly to Monthly):

    • Check that all bolts and nuts are securely fastened.
    • Inspect the shock-absorbing surface for any foreign objects.
    • Check for missing parts.
    • Verify equipment ground clearances.
  • Operational Inspection (1 to 3 Months):

    • Check the stability of the overall construction.
    • Inspect every part for excessive wear and remove/replace if necessary.
  • Annual Inspection (1 to 2 Times Per Year):

    • Check for rust and corrosion on all components.
    • Inspect every part for excessive wear and remove/replace if necessary.
