This document is an assembly and instruction manual for an Outsunny Retractable Awning, models 840-174 and 840-175.
Function Description
The Outsunny Retractable Awning is designed to provide shade and protection from the sun. It is a manually operated awning that can be extended and retracted. The product is intended for outdoor use, specifically for shielding sunshine, and is suitable for installation on reinforced concrete, brick, and wooden walls. The awning's design allows for adjustment of its pitch/angle, although it comes with a factory-set ideal angle. It is crucial to retract the awning during storm conditions, excessive wind, and rain to prevent damage or personal injury.
Important Technical Specifications
- Product Name: Retractable Awning (models 840-174, 840-175)
- Materials:
- Frame: Steel tube, aluminum alloy, plastic parts.
- Fabric: Polyester fabric.
- Surface Treatment:
- Tubes: Spray paint and oxidation.
- Cloth Surface: PU, UV, waterproof.
- Applicable Wall Types: Reinforced concrete walls, brick walls, and wooden walls.
- Recommended Installation Height: 2.5m - 4m (8' - 13').
- Applicable Weather Conditions: Suitable when wind is under level 5. Not suitable for rainy weather.
- Awning Lengths (for bracket requirements):
- Awning < 10.8' (3.5m): Requires 2 wall brackets (one for each end of the torsion bars).
- Awning = 10.8' - 14' (3.5m - 4m): Requires 3 wall brackets (one for each end, and one in the middle).
- Drill Bit Size for Installation: 0.55" (14mm) masonry drill bit.
- Drill Hole Depth: Approximately 3.15" (8cm).
- Hex Key Size for Bolts: 0.75" (19mm).
- Arm Link Adjustment: The arm bar link's position on the front bar can be adjusted outwards if the fabric wraps unevenly or the arms don't open together.
- Drop Angle: The ideal drop angle is factory-set. Raising the front bar reduces the pitch/angle, increasing the risk of rainwater pooling.
- Awning Surface Angle (when open): Recommended to make an angle of about 80 degrees to the wall.
Usage Features
- Two-Person Installation: Recommended for installation due to the product's size and weight.
- Safety Precautions:
- DO NOT remove the safety wrap securing the awning arms until instructed, as they can spring open and cause injury.
- DO NOT stand facing the front of the awning when cutting off binds.
- Proper fastening of wall brackets is critical to prevent collapse.
- Keep children away from the assembly area.
- Operation: Operated by a hand crank (or a motor if applicable).
- Adjustability: The awning's pitch/angle can be adjusted using a jack bolt on the arm clamp.
- Fabric Direction: Pay attention to the fabric direction during assembly and ensure it is faced up.
- Even Alignment: The front bar must be adjusted to be completely even to ensure proper retraction. Misalignment can lead to improper retraction.
- Rainwater Pooling: Raising the front bar reduces the pitch, increasing the risk of rainwater pooling. The awning must be retracted when unattended to prevent damage from rainwater weight.
Maintenance Features
- Regular Inspection: Ensure all screws and nuts are correctly tightened during installation.
- Cleaning: While not explicitly detailed, the waterproof polyester fabric suggests ease of cleaning.
- Damage Prevention:
- Avoid installing in high and windy places, or areas with vibrations, impulsions, or high temperatures (e.g., near furnaces).
- Do not put heavy objects on the frame.
- Close the awning in storm conditions.
- Be careful with fingers during installation.
- If the front bar is slightly deformed, it can be adjusted with tools.
- When adjusting the front bar, do not force it to touch the roller if it already is, as this can damage the product.
- Hardware: The kit includes specific hardware for mounting to brick and reinforced concrete walls (wall brackets, hex screws, wood screws, expansion bolts, hand crank). For wood wall installation, appropriate wood screws of adequate length and diameter must be purchased separately.
