Do you have a question about the oventrop ClimaCon F and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Oventrop ClimaCon F is a series of electronically controlled room thermostats designed for managing surface heating and cooling systems, as well as heating and cooling ceilings in detached houses or multiple dwellings. These devices control electrothermal actuators via a cable connection, opening or closing valves to maintain the desired room temperature.

Function Description

The ClimaCon F room thermostats regulate room temperature by controlling electrothermal actuators. When the room temperature falls below the setpoint, the valves open; when it reaches the setpoint, they close. The setpoint temperature is adjusted directly at the room thermostat.

The ClimaCon F 90 and F 100 models feature a rotary wheel for setting the desired temperature and can activate frost protection via the same rotary wheel. The F 100 also includes a follower input for connection to a leader room thermostat, allowing for temperature reduction by 4 Kelvin compared to the leader's set temperature when the setback input is active. It offers selection between on/off and PWM control via a DIP switch and can switch between heating and cooling based on a change-over signal.

The ClimaCon F 210 and F 310 variants offer more advanced features, including a Dot-Matrix display for visualizing the setpoint and actual temperatures, error codes, and "BLu" for teach-in mode, as well as an "OFF" display when switched off. These models also have LED displays for heating/cooling status and touch surfaces (Plus and Minus keys) for adjusting the setpoint and switching between Auto and Eco modes. Control is also possible via a smartphone app (Bluetooth). Available modes include Auto (with daily or weekly schedules), Eco/Setback, and Manual. Frost protection (6 °C/ 43 °F) is activated when the thermostat is switched off. These models allow for temperature limitation and offset temperature adjustments. They also feature a leader output for controlling the setback temperature of a follower room thermostat.

The ClimaCon F 310 (24 V) specifically includes a 0-10 V output for controlling Air Handling Units (AHU) and can connect to an external NTC temperature sensor (10 K) for actual temperature measurement.

Important Technical Specifications

The ClimaCon F series operates within a temperature adjustment range of 12 °C to 28 °C, with frost protection. All models have a protection category of IP20 and a software class of A. The rated surge voltage is 2500 V, and the temperature for the ball pressure test is 75 °C.

  • Inputs: External temperature sensor (10 K NTC), Change-Over (not potential-free).
  • Outputs: Setback output (leader, max. 10 mA for up to 10 ClimaCon F 90, F 100), On/off / PWM, Potential-free contact (max 24 V, 90 mA DC/AC), 0-10 V output (max. 10 mA).

Usage Features

Installation: The room thermostats are designed for surface-mounted installation. The mounting plate is secured to the wall, and the control unit is then attached. For ClimaCon F 210 and F 310, the control unit is connected to the mounting plate by first placing it on the lower edge and then pressing it on with a slight twisting motion until the release clip audibly engages. Proper wiring is crucial, ensuring the same outer conductor (phase) for operating voltage, setback input/output, and change-over input to prevent damage. For 24 V models, only extra-low voltages (SELV) should be applied to potential-free contacts.

Commissioning (ClimaCon F 210, F 310): After establishing the power supply, the thermostat displays the measured temperature and then switches off. To activate teach-in mode, press the "Eco mode" and "Auto mode" keys simultaneously for about 3 seconds. The display will show "BLu", and the keys will flash alternately. The teach-in mode remains active for approximately 1 minute. The ClimaCon F app (available for Android and iOS) is used to connect and configure the thermostat. After starting the app, tap the "+" sign to teach in a new thermostat. Users can name the room and select a symbol.

Operation Modes:

  • Auto mode: Temperature control follows a time profile, configurable via the app (daily or weekly schedule).
  • Eco mode: The thermostat maintains a constant "Eco setback temperature." For F 210/F 310, a voltage is present at the setback output, which can reduce the temperature of a connected follower thermostat by 4 Kelvin.
  • Manual mode: Allows for manual temperature adjustment using the Plus/Minus keys on the thermostat or by moving a blue dot in the app.

Configuration via App (ClimaCon F 210, F 310): The app's "Settings" menu allows for extensive configuration:

  • Temperature limitation: Set maximum and minimum adjustable temperature ranges.
  • Operating mode: View and change between heating, cooling, or heating/cooling.
  • Correction offset: Compensate for deviations between measured and actual room temperatures.
  • Designation and Symbol: Customize the thermostat's name and icon in the app.
  • Automatic summer time: Enable automatic switching between standard and summer time.
  • Removal of a room thermostat: Unpair the thermostat from the app.
  • Firmware update: Update the device firmware.
  • Extended settings: Accessible by entering an installer code (2962). These settings include:
    • Unit selection: Choose between °Celsius and °Fahrenheit.
    • Sensor selection (F 310 24 V): Use the internal sensor or an external one.
    • External limitation (F 310 24 V): Set maximum/minimum permissible surface temperatures when an external sensor is connected.
    • Output signal of the actuator: Configure on/off control or pulse-width modulation (PWM). PWM is recommended for surface heating systems for faster and more accurate reactions.
    • Output signal 0-10 V (ClimaCon F 310 24 V): Adjust P and I components for controlling AHUs.
    • Valve protection: A weekly cycle of fully opening and closing the actuator to prevent sticking.

Switching Off: Press and hold the "On/Off" key (ClimaCon F 210, F 310) for more than three seconds to switch off the device. Bluetooth and control functions are deactivated, but frost protection remains active.

Maintenance Features

Troubleshooting:

  • App not finding thermostat during teach-in: Temporarily switch off other Bluetooth devices to avoid interference.
  • "F" pulsating on display: Indicates internal temperature sensor dropped below 6 °C (43 °F), activating frost protection. It deactivates automatically when the temperature rises above 6 °C.
  • "F1" on display: Device measured implausible temperature values or temperature measurement failed. Contact technical service.
  • "F3" on display: Auto mode cannot be activated due to incorrect time/date. Connect to smartphone via Bluetooth to transfer valid time/date.

General Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: If necessary, clean the surfaces with a soft cloth.
  • Disposal: The product must be disposed of separately from unsorted municipal waste according to Directive 2012/19/UE WEEE. Batteries and accumulators should be removed and disposed of separately. Old appliances can be returned free of charge to public waste disposal authorities or distributors when purchasing a similar new appliance. Any personal data stored on the device should be deleted by the user.
