MODEL W836 8 PERSON TENT 16’ X 8’
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR TENT SET UP IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT LONGER THAN NECESSARY. THE SUN’S ULTRAVIOLET (UV) LIGHT
DEGRADES ALMOST EVERY FABRIC AND MATERIAL. IF LEFT IN SUNLIGHT FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME, FABRIC WILL
FADE AND WEAKEN. DO NOT STORE TENT ON CONCRETE FLOOR. DO NOT SPRAY THE TENT WITH INSECTICIDE.
Your tent is water repellent, however, it is not waterproof. During heavy rain, some leakage may occur. Keep objects from touching the
inside of the tent. Such objects may cause leakage at point of contact. If seam leakage occurs, it can be controlled by applying a seam
sealer compound.
EXERCISE CARE WHEN USING ELECTRIC DEVICES IN AND NEAR TENTS.
Although our tents and screen houses are constructed to rigid specifications, periods of wind or rain soaking the ground may loosen the
stakes and cause the uprights to sink into the ground. This will weaken the rigidity of the overall structure. Water pockets may also form in
the roof if the unit is not assembled taut, possibly causing broken frames and torn fabric.
If you have questions or need to order a part, call 1-800-325-4121 or send an email to contactus@wenzelco.com.

SAFETY WARNING -
DOs AND DO NOTs
EVERYONE WHO USES THIS TENT SHOULD READ THIS MANUAL AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH ALL
SAFETY WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE USE, ASSEMBLY, CARE, MAINTENANCE,
AND STORAGE. KEEP THIS MANUAL SO YOU CAN REFER TO IT LATER.
CARBON MONOXIDE GAS WILL KILL YOU
Stoves, heaters, grills, lantern, candles, and other fuel-burning devices that burn propane, natural gas, charcoal, kerosene, coal, or other fuels produce a toxic gas
called carbon monoxide. Because carbon monoxide gas is invisible, odorless, and colorless, a dangerous level of carbon monoxide gas can accumulate in a tent
which cannot be detected by sight, smell, or taste. For these reasons:
DO NOT use matches, lighters, stoves, heaters, grills, lanterns, candles, cooking equipment, or other fuel-burning devices inside or near a tent.
DO NOT build fires inside or near a tent.
DO NOT leave campfires unattended.
Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or permanent disability to you or others.
PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN
DO NOT leave children unattended inside a tent or in camp.
DO NOT allow children to assemble a tent.
DO NOT allow children to enter or exit a tent except through the door.
DO NOT allow children to remain in a closed-up tent on hot days.
Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or permanent disability to your children.
FLAMMABILITY WARNING KEEP ALL FLAME AND HEAT SOURCES AWAY FROM THIS TENT FABRIC
This tent is made with flame resistant fabric which meets CPAI-84 specification. IT IS NOT FIREPROOF. The fabric will burn if left in continuous contact with any
flame source. The application of any foreign substance to the tent fabric may render the flame-resistant properties ineffective.
Your failure to follow this warning will cause death, serious injury, or permanent disability to you or others.
CAMPING DO’S AND DON’TS
DO NOT...
1. Do not pitch tent near open fire.
2. Do not leave campfire unattended.
3. Do not leave children unattended inside a tent.
4. Do not use heating, lighting or cooking equipment with open flames in or near tents.
5. Do not use other than recommended water repellent compounds on your tent.
6. Do not spray the tent with insecticide.
7. Do not store tent on concrete floor.
DO...
1. Always extinguish campfire before leaving area.
2. Exercise care when using electricity and lighting in and near tents.
3. Make certain your tent is properly ventilated in all weather conditions. In extreme weather conditions, snow could obstruct airflow and cause
asphyxiation unless cleared frequently.
4. Anchor your tent securely to provide additional security from changing climatic conditions. Snow pegs, skis and/or heavy rocks may be necessary to
supplement tent stakes and guy cords.
5. Take your tent down and store properly after camping.

Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions and warnings for the assembly, use, care, and maintenance of an Ozark Trail Model W836 8-Person Tent, measuring 16' x 8'. The primary function of this device is to provide temporary shelter for up to eight people during outdoor activities such as camping.

Function Description

The Ozark Trail Model W836 tent is designed to offer a comfortable and secure outdoor living space. It features a robust frame structure, a weather-resistant fabric shell, and a divider curtain to create two separate rooms for enhanced privacy. The tent is intended for temporary use in various outdoor conditions, providing protection from elements like sun, wind, and rain. Its design emphasizes ease of assembly and disassembly, making it suitable for recreational camping. The tent's structure is supported by fiberglass poles, which are inserted into sleeves and secured with pins and stakes. A separate fly is included to provide additional weather protection and features guy ropes for increased stability in windy conditions. The tent also incorporates features for ventilation and includes provisions for securing it to the ground.

Usage Features

The tent's usage is guided by a series of steps for assembly and important safety precautions. Before initial use, it is strongly advised to assemble the tent once to familiarize oneself with the process. This helps ensure a smooth setup during actual camping trips.

Assembly:

  1. Preparation: The first step involves spreading the tent out flat, floor side down, on a level, clean campsite area. It's crucial to unzip the doors to allow air to enter, preventing damage to the zippers during setup.
  2. Staking the Base: The tent is secured to the ground by inserting stakes through webbing loops at the side corners. These stakes should be hammered into the ground at a 45-degree angle, ensuring the tent floor is pulled out evenly and tightly.
  3. Pole Assembly: Fiberglass tent poles are extended by pulling out each section and connecting them with metal ferrule connectors. The tent uses five poles: two longest poles (A) for the main tent, two next longest poles (B) for the side rooms, and one shortest pole (C) with metal, bullet point end tips for the tent fly.
  4. Main Tent Frame Setup: The main fiberglass tent poles (A) are slid through sleeves on the sides and roof of the tent, forming an "X" across the tent. The ferrules at the ends of these poles are then inserted onto pins located on rings at the floor edge of the tent. There are two pins at each location: one for the main tent poles and one for the side poles. This process is repeated for both main tent poles, starting from the back and moving to the front of the tent.
  5. Side Room Assembly: The longer remaining fiberglass poles (B) are used for the side rooms. One pole section is inserted through the pole sleeve at the top of each side room. With an adult at each end, the pole is gently flexed into an arch, and its ferrules are placed into the pin ring at the base of the tent. Plastic hooks are then clipped to the frame.
  6. Final Staking: The tent is further secured by inserting stakes through rings at the base and any intermediate stake loops, hammering them into the ground at a 45-degree angle to ensure the tent floor is taut.
  7. Fly Attachment: The tent fly is unfolded and placed over the tent, ensuring the pole sleeve is positioned over the doors. S-hooks located at each fly corner are attached to the rings at the base of the tent.
  8. Fly Pole Insertion: The fly pole (C) is inserted into the sleeve at the edge of the fly awning, over the front doors. It is then flexed, and each end is inserted into reinforced metal grommets on either side of the front doors.
  9. Guy Ropes: Guy ropes located on the fly edges are extended and secured to the ground using sliders and additional tent stakes. This enhances stability, especially in windy conditions.

Safety Warnings and Precautions:

  • Carbon Monoxide Danger: This is a critical warning. Stoves, heaters, grills, lanterns, candles, cooking equipment, or any fuel-burning devices that produce carbon monoxide gas must never be used inside or near the tent. Fires should also not be built inside or near the tent, and campfires should never be left unattended. Failure to adhere to this warning can result in death, serious injury, or permanent disability.
  • Child Safety: Children should not be left unattended inside the tent or in camp. They should not assemble the tent, should only enter or exit through the door, and should not remain in a closed-up tent on hot days.
  • Flammability Warning: The tent fabric is flame resistant but not fireproof. It will burn if left in continuous contact with any flame source. Applying foreign substances to the fabric may render its flame-resistant properties ineffective. All flame and heat sources must be kept away from the tent fabric.
  • Elastic Cord Safety: During assembly, elastic cords can snap back and cause eye injury. Users should keep their body and face clear, avoid overstretching cords, maintain a firm grip on hooks, pull hooks toward themselves, ensure hooks are fully clipped before releasing, and wear protective eyewear.
  • General Camping Do's and Don'ts:
    • Do Not: Pitch the tent near open fire, leave campfires or children unattended, use heating/lighting/cooking equipment with open flames inside or near the tent, use unrecommended water repellent compounds, spray the tent with insecticide, or store the tent on a concrete floor.
    • Do: Always extinguish campfires before leaving, exercise care with electricity and lighting, ensure proper ventilation, anchor the tent securely, and take down and store the tent properly after camping.

Special Instructions for Rain: When it rains, door zipper sliders must be pulled completely closed at the bottom corner of the door, and the zipper must be covered by the zipper flaps to prevent leakage.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance are essential to prolong the life of the Ozark Trail tent.

  • Sunlight Exposure: The tent should not be left set up in direct sunlight longer than necessary. Ultraviolet (UV) light degrades fabric and material over time, causing fading and weakening.
  • Storage: The tent should not be stored on a concrete floor. After camping, the tent must be taken down, cleaned, and thoroughly dried before storage.
  • Water Repellency: The tent is water repellent but not waterproof. During heavy rain, some leakage may occur. Objects touching the inside of the tent can cause leakage at contact points. Seam leakage can be controlled by applying a seam sealer compound to the inside seams and underside of the tent fly.
  • Seam Sealer Application: To improve weather resistance, it is advisable to use seam sealer on all exposed seams. This should only be applied to the inside seams of the tent and the underside of the tent fly. Applying it to the outside seams may cause discoloration.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the tent is properly ventilated in all weather conditions. In extreme conditions, snow could obstruct airflow, requiring frequent clearing to prevent asphyxiation.
  • Stability: Periods of wind or rain can loosen stakes and cause uprights to sink, weakening the overall structure. Water pockets can form in the roof if the unit is not assembled taut, potentially causing broken frames and torn fabric.
  • Cleaning: The tent must be clean and dry before storing.
  • Disassembly and Storage: To take down the tent, follow the assembly steps in reverse order. Leave doors and windows unzipped. Place stakes into a stake bag and poles into a pole bag. The tent should be folded into equal parts toward the center to distribute bulk. The fly is folded and laid on top of the tent. A small, tight roll, the width of the carry bag, should be started at the end opposite the doors. Roll the tent toward the doors to allow air to escape. Once rolled, tie a string or rope around the tent to hold it in place. Finally, place the tent and stake bag into the carry bag.
