Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions and safety warnings for Ozito Power X Change 18V Lithium-Ion batteries and their corresponding fast charger. The manual covers two battery capacities: 2.0Ah and 4.0Ah, both designed for use with Ozito Power X Change cordless products.

Battery Function Description:

The Ozito Power X Change batteries are rechargeable lithium-ion power sources designed to provide cordless power to a range of Ozito tools. They are part of a versatile system where a single battery can power multiple tools, enhancing convenience and reducing the need for multiple battery types. The batteries are equipped with a charge indicator system, allowing users to quickly assess the remaining charge level. This indicator typically uses a series of LED lights to show whether the battery requires immediate charging, is in a low, mid, or full state of charge. A battery protection system is integrated to ensure longevity by automatically cutting off power during operation if the tool is overloaded or if the battery capacity becomes low. This protective measure prevents damage to the battery cells and the tool itself.

Battery Usage Features:

Before initial use, the battery pack is shipped in a low charge condition and requires charging. Optimal performance and runtime are achieved after several charge and discharge cycles through use with a compatible tool. The batteries are designed to be compatible with Ozito Power X Change chargers available through local Bunnings Warehouses. To charge, the charger's power plug is inserted into a mains socket outlet, which activates a flashing green LED on the charger. The battery pack is then slid into the charger, causing a red LED to illuminate, indicating charging is in progress. Once fully charged, the green LED on the charger illuminates, and the battery should be removed. It is normal for the battery pack to become slightly warm during charging.

Users can check the battery's charge state by pressing the charge indicator button on the battery pack. The LED lights will then display the current charge level. It is recommended to remove the battery from the tool to check its state of charge. To ensure optimal battery life, users should avoid exhaustive discharge and charge the battery frequently. The battery should be stored with some charge, and if stored for extended periods, it should be charged every 2-3 months to restore charge. Operation should cease as soon as battery performance noticeably declines or the electronic protection system triggers.

The battery is designed for use in dry conditions with low humidity, ideally between 0-50°C, with an optimal temperature of 15°C. It should not be exposed to direct sunlight or stored in places where temperatures can exceed 50°C, such as inside cars or metal sheds, as this poses an explosion risk. The battery should also be protected from moisture, rain, and high humidity, which can cause dangerous cell damage. Batteries that have been dropped from a height of more than one meter or subjected to strong external impact should not be used, even if the housing appears undamaged, as internal cell damage may have occurred. If the plastic housing of the battery pack breaks or cracks, use should be discontinued immediately, and the battery should not be recharged.

Battery Maintenance Features:

For maintenance, the battery pack should never be opened for any reason. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer. If the battery pack becomes damaged or modified, it should not be used, as this can lead to unpredictable behavior, fire, explosion, or injury. During charging, the battery must be placed in a well-ventilated area. When not in use, the battery pack should be kept away from other metal objects like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, or screws, which could short the terminals and cause burns or fire. If liquid is accidentally ejected from the battery under abusive conditions, contact should be avoided, and the affected area should be flushed with water, seeking medical help immediately.

Charger Function Description:

The Ozito Fast Charger is designed specifically for charging Ozito Power X Change rechargeable batteries. It provides a controlled charging environment to ensure the longevity and safety of the battery packs. The charger features an LED indicator system that communicates the charging status, including standby, low charge, fast charging (mid charge), full charge, and error conditions such as defective battery or extreme temperature.

Charger Usage Features:

The charger operates on standard household electrical power (240 volts) and is not intended for use with any other voltage. Before use, users should read all instructions and cautionary markings. The charger should be connected to a power supply with the voltage marked on its rating plate. Once plugged in, a green LED will flash, indicating power supply. The battery pack is then slid into the charger, initiating the charging process. The charger is designed to automatically adjust charging based on battery temperature; if the battery pack is too hot or too cold, charging will pause until it reaches the correct temperature.

The charger can be mounted to a wall or workbench using suitable screws (e.g., M3 pan-head screws) to prevent damage to the housing and risk of falling. A template for mounting hole locations can be found on the Ozito website. The charger should not be used where the temperature may reach below 0°C or exceed 40°C. It is crucial not to over-charge batteries or exceed maximum charging times, as this can lead to cell damage. Fully charged batteries should not be left in the charger. Charging should occur in dry conditions with low humidity, ideally between 10-40°C, and the charger should not be exposed to direct sunlight.

Charger Maintenance Features:

The charger and its cable should be protected from damage and sharp edges, and damaged cables should be repaired by an authorized service agent. The charger should be kept out of children's reach. It should never be disassembled; if service or repair is required, it should be taken to an electrician or power tool repairer. Incorrect reassembly can result in electric shock, electrocution, or fire. To reduce the risk of electric shock, the charger should be unplugged from the outlet before any cleaning. If the enclosure requires cleaning, a dry, soft cloth should be used to wipe down the surface; solvents should not be used, and no liquid should enter or immerse any part of the charger. The charger should be kept in a dry place. It is important not to cover the charger or place any objects on top of it, and it should be kept away from heat sources. The charger should not be used near vapors and inflammable liquids.

Environmental Care:

Both power tools and packaging should be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. Users are encouraged to recycle these items where facilities exist and to check with their local council authority for recycling advice. Recycling reduces the need for landfill and raw materials, decreases pollution, and promotes the reuse of recycled materials.
