Overview

The Pollux PX50M30MCP is a high-speed CMOS area scan monochrome camera designed for a broad range of applications, offering a CoaXPress output format. It is part of the Pollux Series - 50M CXP.

Function Description

The Pollux PX50M30MCP camera is a high-speed CMOS area scan monochrome camera that utilizes the CoaXPress (CXP) interface for data transmission and power over CoaXPress (PoCXP). It is designed to capture images with high resolution and frame rates, suitable for applications requiring fast and detailed image acquisition. The camera supports various trigger modes, including free-running, external trigger timed, and external trigger width, allowing for flexible synchronization with external events. It also features programmable region of interest (ROI) settings, enabling users to focus on specific areas of interest within the image. The camera includes user-programmable Look-up Tables (LUT) for defective pixel corrections, fixed pattern noise and photo response non-uniformity correction, and sensor black level correction. Analog and digital gains are adjustable, and an 8-User Set feature allows for saving/loading camera configurations.

Usage Features

The Pollux PX50M30MCP camera offers a range of features to enhance its usability in various applications:

  • CoaXPress Interface: The camera utilizes the CoaXPress (CXP) interface, which allows for high-speed data transfer and Power over CoaXPress (PoCXP). This simplifies cabling by delivering power and data over a single coaxial cable. The camera supports CXP 6-4, providing an output bandwidth of 25 Gbps and a maximum frame rate of 30 fps.
  • Trigger Input Design: The camera includes two input triggers and an output trigger on the power connector (pins 5, 7 and 9). These inputs/outputs are connected to Opto-isolated I/Os. The input/output voltage range is 3.3 V to 5.0 V. A 510 Ω series resistor is present in the input path, and a 680 Ω series resistor in the output path.
  • LED Status Indicator: A tri-color (orange/green/red) LED on the back of the camera indicates its operational status.
    • Slow flash alternate Red/Orange: Booting (takes about 10 s)
    • Slow flash Green: Booting is completed
    • Solid Green: Connected, no data is being transferred
    • Fast flash Green: Data is being transferred
  • Installation: To install the camera, a CoaXPress Frame Grabber (e.g., from Matrox) and corresponding software are required. The camera connects to the frame grabber using four coax cables. For PoCXP, the power adapter connects to the 12-pin power input receptacle on the camera, and the camera is powered via the frame grabber. It is crucial to ensure the power supply is not connected to the camera and your computer is turned off during installation.
  • Camera Modes: The camera supports three exposure modes:
    • Free-running: The sensor autonomously integrates during a predefined time, and the image array is readout sequentially. A falling edge on the synchronization pin does not have any impact on the readout or integration.
    • External Trigger Timed: The integration time is defined by an Exposure Time Command. The sensor autonomously integrates during this predefined time, after which the GLOB starts and the image array is readout sequentially. A rising edge on the external trigger before the exposure time and GLOB of the previous frame is complete, it is ignored by the sensor.
    • External Trigger Width: In edge-triggered level-controlled exposure mode, the exposure of the frame is controlled by the active state of the input trigger. The frame period and exposure commands have no effect in this mode. The minimum pulse width of the input trigger is 150 µs.
  • Image Region of Interest (ROI): The ROI feature allows users to specify a portion of the sensor array for acquisition, enabling higher frame rates and reduced data. Users can acquire only the frame data from the specified portion of the sensor array while preserving the same quality. The ROI can be defined by its height (i.e., Vertical or Y-axis) and width (i.e., Horizontal or X-axis). The ROI is referenced to the top left corner [origin (0, 0)] of the sensor array. Multiple ROIs (up to 4) are supported by 4 regions at Y-axis. The height parameters can be set to any positive integer value.
  • Offset and Gain:
    • Black Level Offset: The camera supports a black level offset, which is programmed using the Black Level Offset command. This ensures optimum image quality by calibrating values on every camera at various output formats.
    • Analog Gain: The analog gain can be applied using the Analog Gain command. The valid range is 0 to 2, with corresponding gain values of x1.00 (0 dB), x2.00 (3.0 dB), and x4.00 (6.0 dB). The analog gain is applied by a Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) before the analog to digital conversion.
    • Digital Gain: The digital gain can be applied using the Digital Gain register, with a value range of -24 to 24.
  • User Set: The PX50M30MCP camera allows users to save/load camera configuration settings using up to 8 User Set Commands. The number of stories in Preset Name should be limited to 16 words.
