Overview

This document provides operating instructions for Panasonic Steam Irons, specifically models NI-S630, NI-S530, and NI-S430, intended for household use. It covers safety precautions, parts identification, usage tips, and maintenance guidelines.

Function Description

The Panasonic Steam Iron is designed for ironing various fabrics, offering both dry and steam ironing capabilities. Key features include a temperature selector for different fabric types, a steam/dry selector, and special functions like "power shot" for stubborn wrinkles and "vertical shot" for hanging garments. The NI-S630 model also includes an electronic 3-way auto shut-off function for enhanced safety. The iron's water reservoir allows for steam generation, spray mist, and power shot functions, which help to effectively remove creases from clothing. The anti-drip system prevents water leakage at lower temperatures, ensuring a clean ironing experience.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Water Reservoir Capacity: Approximately 260 mL, indicated by a "MAX" fill line.
  • Temperature Settings: Three ranges: Low (•), Medium (••), and High (•••), with specific settings for fabrics like Silk/Acrylic, Wool, and Cotton/Linen.
  • Steam Settings: Dry, Low steam, and High steam, selectable via the steam/dry selector.
  • Power Shot Interval: Recommended interval of at least 2 seconds between presses to prevent water spotting.
  • Auto Shut-off (NI-S630 only):
    • 1 minute when left idle with the soleplate facing down or on its side.
    • 10 minutes when left idle on its heel rest.
  • Water Type: Only room-temperature pure water or distilled water should be used in the water reservoir.

Usage Features

  1. Preparation:
    • Ensure the iron is positioned on its heel rest and the temperature selector is set to "0" before plugging in.
    • For steam ironing, fill the water reservoir up to the "MAX" line with clean, room-temperature pure or distilled water. Close the water fill cover firmly.
    • Plug the power plug into a socket-outlet.
  2. Temperature Selection:
    • Turn the temperature selector to the desired setting based on the fabric type (Low, Medium, or High). The thermostat operating indicator light will illuminate.
    • Wait until the indicator light goes off, indicating the iron has reached the selected temperature. If changing from a high to a lower temperature, wait for the light to cycle on and off again.
  3. Steam/Dry Selection:
    • Move the steam/dry selector to the "dry" position for dry ironing or to the "low steam" or "high steam" positions for steam ironing.
    • For "high steam" and "power shot" functions, ensure the temperature selector is set to "MAX".
  4. Power Shot:
    • Set the steam/dry selector to the dry position and the temperature selector to "MAX".
    • Pump the power shot button several times at the beginning of each ironing session.
    • Press the button in intervals of at least 2 seconds to prevent water spotting.
    • If the power shot weakens, wait until the thermostat operating indicator light goes on and then off.
  5. Vertical Shot:
    • Hang the garment on a hanger. Hold the iron away from the body, close to but not touching the fabric.
    • Pull the fabric tightly and pump the power shot button at 2-second intervals while pressing the iron over the wrinkled fabric.
  6. Spray Mist:
    • Push the spray mist button whenever spray is desired. It can be used with both steam and dry ironing.
    • If the spray doesn't work immediately, keep triggering it until it does.
  7. Auto Shut-off (NI-S630 only):
    • The iron automatically shuts off if left idle for 1 minute (soleplate down/side) or 10 minutes (heel rest).
    • To resume ironing, simply move the iron. If off for more than 10 minutes, allow it to reheat until the indicator light goes off.
  8. After Use:
    • Set the steam/dry selector to the dry position to prevent water from moving into the soleplate.
    • Empty the water reservoir immediately after use. If emptying after cooling, heat the iron for about 5 minutes with the temperature selector set to "MAX" to ensure all water is vaporized.
    • Set the temperature selector to "0" and unplug the iron.
    • Wait until the iron has fully cooled before storing it on its heel rest to protect the soleplate.

Maintenance Features

  1. Cleaning the Iron (Power Shot Feature):
    • Fill the water reservoir with tap water.
    • Set the temperature selector to "0" and plug in the iron.
    • Stand the iron up and set the temperature selector to "MAX".
    • Once the thermostat operating indicator light goes out, hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
    • Pump the power shot button quickly (at least 3 times per second) for 20-30 continuous times, shaking the iron back and forth while pumping.
    • Set the temperature selector to "0" and unplug. Dispose of any remaining water.
    • To prevent soleplate vent corrosion, plug in, stand up, set to "MAX", and preheat for 5 minutes. Then set to "0" and unplug.
    • Iron on a used cloth to remove impurities from the soleplate. Repeat if steam venting doesn't improve.
    • Perform this cleaning every two weeks, or more frequently if water is hard.
  2. Anti Calc System (Stay Clean Vents):
    • The built-in anti-calc system continuously reduces scale buildup in the vaporizing chamber, prolonging the steam function's life and preventing vent clogging.
  3. Anti-Drip System (Automatic Water Seal):
    • This system automatically closes a valve when the soleplate temperature drops, preventing unvaporized hot water from spewing out. This means you don't need to wait for the vaporizing chamber to dry completely before storing. A clicking sound when activated is normal.
  4. Surface of the Iron:
    • After unplugging and cooling, wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent if necessary. Avoid strong cleaners.
  5. Soleplate:
    • Starch and other residue can be removed with a damp cloth.
    • To avoid scratching, never use metallic pads or place the iron on rough surfaces.
    • Synthetic residue can be removed by ironing over an old cotton cloth rag after heating the iron.
    • Never use cleaners or steam iron detergent in the iron, as they can damage internal parts. Some odor during initial use is normal and will not transfer to clothes.
