XL2 DISPLAY MODES
This list shows the camera modes as displayed on the rear control panel of
the XL2 camera. The M button cycles through the display modes

Shutter/dissolver motor jammed.
- Use heater if it’s cold.
- Turn the manual shutter knob (above the movement) to un-jam the
shutter, then try to run again. If problem persists, enter shutter
with zero degree value to bypass the motor, and use the manual
knob for setting the shutter angle.

Mirror/shutter motor not locked to speed.
- Manually inch the mirror and check for tightness.
- Use heater if it’s cold.
- Check battery voltage on camera display. Avoid using long power
cable.

Movement motor not locked to speed
- Manually inch the movement and check for tightness. Clean and oil
the movement if it’s dirty.
- Use heater if it’s cold.
- Check battery voltage on camera display, avoid using long power
cable.

Magazine take-up motor jammed
- Ensure film on take-up side is not rubbing against the magazine
housing.
- Check magazine to camera body lock lever. if there is too much
clearance between the magazine and the camera body, the pogo
contacts may not align properly, causing a bad signal or
momentary loss of power.

Bad external speed control clock signal on ACC 10-pin connector.
- Check ACC cable, and external controller speed setting for too high
or too low.

- Check motor bracket for gear
binding.
- Check lens barrel for stiff rotation.

Error 1 Shutter

Shutter/dissolver motor jammed. Use manual knob to un-jam shutter or bypass.

Error 2 Mirror

Mirror/shutter motor not locked to speed. Inch mirror and check for tightness.

Error 3 Movement

Movement motor not locked to speed. Inch movement, check tightness, clean and oil.

Error 4 Magazine

Magazine take-up motor jammed. Ensure film path is clear and check magazine lock.

Error 5 External FPS

Bad external speed control clock signal. Check ACC cable and speed setting.

Error 6 Focus Motor

Focus/Iris/Zoom motor jammed or overheated. Check motor bracket for gear binding.

XL2 Display Modes

Camera Speed and Elapsed Film

Displays camera speed and elapsed film in feet, meters, or frames.

Display Brightness

Adjustable display brightness via up and down buttons.

Battery Voltage

Shows the current battery voltage.

Internal Temperature

Displays internal temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Speed and Shutter Settings

Shows current speed and shutter angle settings, allowing custom speed setup.

System Unit Selection

Select English/Metric units using up/down buttons.

Film Perforation Selection

Select 4, 3, or 2 perf film using up/down buttons.

Software Versions

Displays camera, CPU, DSP, Xilinx, Epan, Magazine, and Panel software versions.

XL2 Warning Messages - Additional

Use Heater Warning

Camera internal temp below 50°F/10°C. Connect 24v battery to heater.

Low Battery Warning

Battery voltage is 21v or lower. Replace weak battery.

FTZ Motor Driver Error

FTZ motor driver damaged or bad connection. Contact Panavision.

Film Jam Error

Film jammed in movement. Camera will not run. Clear the jam.

Film Low;Empty

Film magazine is near empty or empty. Camera stops.

Door Open Error

Camera door is open. Ensure door is securely latched.

Illegal Setting Error

FPS or shutter angle entry is invalid. Re-enter desired value.

Filter Indicator

Indicates a behind-the-lens filter is in use.

Phase Out;Normal Mode

Toggle between phase-out mode (streaking) and normal mode.

Battery Check

Display blank or cycling on/off may indicate a bad battery.
