Overview

This document describes the Paperang Thermal Label Printer, a device engineered for real-time and batch label printing, designed to streamline shipping processes. As a thermal printer, it operates without the need for ink or toner, producing prints by heating compatible labels.

Function Description

The Paperang Thermal Label Printer is primarily used for printing labels. It connects to computers via a USB cable for driver installation and printing, and also supports mobile printing through the Paperang Biz app via Bluetooth. The printer is capable of automatic label identification, which is crucial for its first use and whenever a new type of label is introduced. This feature allows the printer to learn the properties of the loaded labels, ensuring accurate and efficient printing.

Usage Features

Quick Start: To begin using the printer, ensure it is powered off. Connect the power cable, then the USB cable, and finally, turn the power on. Once these steps are completed, proceed with driver installation.

Driver Installation: For the latest drivers, users are directed to paperang.com/en/pc/download. The installation process involves plugging in a USB drive to the computer and running the appropriate software for the computer's operating system (Windows or Mac), or directly running the downloaded software from the provided web address. The installation is guided by prompts until completion.

Windows Setup Printing: After driver installation, open the printer page in the control panel. Right-click on the "PKT-LP108" printer and select "Printing Preferences." Navigate to the "Advanced Setting" by clicking the "Advanced..." button. Crucially, ensure that the "Paper Size" is correctly set for the label being used. A common size is 4" x 6" (100mm x 150mm).

Mac Setup Printing: For Mac users, open System Preferences, then "Printers & Scanners." Click the "+" button to add a new printer. In the "Use" drop-down menu, select "Select Software," search for "Paperang Printer," and click "Ok / Add." Similar to Windows, it is essential to set the "Paper Size" correctly for the label, with 4" x 6" (100mm x 150mm) being a common option.

Label Setup: The printer requires an initial label identification process when first used or when changing label types. To initiate this, turn the printer off. Press the side release button to open the cover. Load the label, ensuring the guides are flush against the label without any gaps. Carefully close the cover. Turn the power on and wait 5 seconds for the printer to initialize (indicated by two beeps). Then, press and hold the feeder button until one beep is heard. The label printer will then begin automatic label identification.

Printing on Phone: For mobile printing, power on the printer. Install the "Paperang Biz" app, available on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Open the app and tap the "+" icon to access the list of devices. Select "Paperang_LP108" to connect to the device. Users can then choose a file from within the app or directly open a document using the Paperang Biz app to commence printing.

LED Status Indicators: The printer provides visual feedback through an LED light:

  • Green: Indicates normal operation.
  • Flashing Red & Green: Signifies that the printer head is overheated. The printer will automatically resume once the head has cooled down.
  • Flashing Red (every 2 seconds): Indicates a paper shortage. Users should ensure the paper is loaded correctly and may need to run automatic label identification.
  • Flashing Red (twice every second): Means the cover is not closed. Users should check that the cover is completely closed.

Pro Tips:

  • Always run automatic label identification when changing label types.
  • Press the circle feeder button to skip a blank label.
  • To run a self-test, press and hold the feeder button until two short beeps are heard.
  • Avoid using poor quality labels, as they can damage the printer.
  • If paper jams, turn off the printer, allow the head to cool, open the cover, and clean the rubber with alcohol if dirty. Ensure the area is dry before restarting.
  • Always insert the label printer into the same USB port on your computer to prevent creating duplicate printer copies in your operating system.

Maintenance Features

Printer Head Cleaning: To clean the printer head, first turn off the printer, remove the power cord, and open the cover. Allow the printer head to cool down, as it can become very hot after printing. Use an alcohol swab (not water) to thoroughly clean the printer head. Wait until the alcohol has completely vaporized before closing the cover. To verify cleanliness, connect the power cord, turn on the printer, and press and hold the circle feeder button until two short beeps are heard to print a self-test page.

General Maintenance Notices:

  • Always ensure the power is off when performing any maintenance.
  • Avoid touching or scratching the printer head surface, roller, or sensors.
  • Do not use gas, acetone, or other organic solvents for cleaning.

Safety Notices:

  • The printer head can become very hot after printing; do not touch it.
  • Do not bend the power cord excessively or place objects on it.
  • Discontinue use if any irregularities are observed, as this could lead to fire or electrocution.
  • Keep the printer out of reach of children.
  • Only use approved accessories and do not attempt to disassemble or repair the unit yourself.
  • Keep the printer away from water and other objects that could penetrate its components.
  • Unplug the printer when it is not in use for extended periods.
