Overview

The Paradise Grills GXL-45 Professional Grill is an outdoor cooking appliance designed for residential use, offering a range of features for grilling, rotisserie cooking, and indirect heating. This operator manual, version 4, released in February 2024, provides comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The GXL-45 Grill serves as a versatile outdoor cooking station. Its primary function is grilling, facilitated by multiple main burners and an infrared back burner. It also supports rotisserie cooking with a dedicated kit, allowing for slow, even cooking of meats. The grill is designed for outdoor use only and is available in both Natural Gas (NG) and Liquid Petroleum (LP) gas configurations, with conversion kits provided for changing fuel types. The appliance is intended for installation in a grill island, which requires specific ventilation and clearance considerations.

Usage Features:

  • Ignition: The grill features a Piezo Ignition System for normal lighting. Burners are lit by pushing and rotating the control knobs to the HI position. Manual lighting is also possible using a provided lighting tube.
  • Burner Controls: Individual control knobs allow for precise temperature adjustment for each main burner and the rear infrared burner.
  • Grill Lights: The grill includes internal lights and control knob lights, operated by two buttons on the right side of the control panel.
  • Rotisserie Kit: A complete rotisserie kit (motor, spit, forks) is included. The motor bracket can be mounted on either side of the grill hood. The rotisserie has a weight limit of 15 pounds.
  • Indirect Heating: The grill can be used for indirect heating by turning on one or two burners and placing food over the unlit burners, reducing flare-ups and allowing for slower cooking.
  • Preheating: It is recommended to preheat the grill on HIGH for at least 10 minutes with the hood closed before cooking.
  • Safety Features: The manual emphasizes critical safety precautions, including leak testing, proper gas cylinder handling and storage, and warnings against operating the grill in enclosed spaces due to carbon monoxide risk. It also highlights the importance of keeping flammable materials away from the grill and never using water to extinguish grease fires.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The grill's #304 stainless steel construction is rust and corrosion resistant but not proof, requiring regular cleaning. The exterior should be wiped down with warm soapy water and polished with a stainless steel cleaner. The interior cooking surface should be cleaned after each use, burning off food debris and marinades, then wiping with a damp cloth and applying vegetable oil or non-stick spray.
  • Drip Tray: The drip tray must be cleaned after each use to prevent fires. It can be cleaned with soapy water or an oven-style cleaning product.
  • Burner Inspection: Burners should be visually checked for correct flame appearance (bluish color) and obstructions. If the grill has not been used for over a month, or if there are issues with flame appearance or heating, burners should be inspected for foreign particles, especially insect nests in the burner/venturi tubes.
  • Preventive Maintenance: At least twice a year, a thorough inspection of the grill's ventilation, gas cylinder enclosure, and burner flames is recommended. Professional barbecue cleaning is suggested for best results and longevity.
  • Rust Prevention: To minimize oxidation, rust, and pitting, the stainless steel surfaces should be regularly wiped with a damp cloth, allowed to dry before covering, and a rust inhibitor applied for seasonal storage.
  • Gas System Check: Regular leak testing of all gas piping and connections is crucial, especially after installation, service, or cylinder replacement.
  • Component Replacement: Replacement parts are available from Paradise Grills International, Inc.
  • Warranty: The grill comes with a limited lifetime warranty on the stainless steel housing, five years on burners, briquettes, and grates, and one year on all other parts, subject to specific exclusions and conditions outlined in the manual.
