Usage Features

The manual emphasizes safety and proper usage. Key features include:

  • Warning Labels: All machines are affixed with warning labels and a facility safety sign, which must be reviewed and understood. Replacement labels are available free of charge.
  • Weight Selector Pins: Users must ONLY use Paramount weight selector pins, ensuring they are completely inserted before use to prevent injury. High-pinning or double-pinning the weight stack is prohibited.
  • Adder Weights: ONLY Paramount adder weights or adder weight systems should be used for incremental resistance adjustment. Dumbbells or other means are strictly prohibited.
  • Adjustments: All adjustments (e.g., seat, roller clearance) should be carried out with ease. For the XL0300 Leg Press, an adjustable roller feature ensures smooth operation, with specific instructions for re-adjustment if the seat assembly is removed.
  • Cable Tension: Cables must be properly tensioned, with the cable nut tightened to ensure the cap plate/selector bar barely lifts off the first weight plate. The dimension from under the bolt head to the bottom of the cable nut must not exceed 1-3/8" (35 mm).
  • Floor Anchoring: Machines can be anchored to the floor for stability, with pre-drilled holes in the base frame. A qualified contractor should determine the appropriate fastening method.
  • Space Requirements: A minimum of 24 inches (61 cm) of space is recommended around the machine at its maximum exercise dimensions. This can be reduced to 12 inches (31 cm) if positioned against a wall or another machine to prevent user passage.
  • Environment: Equipment should NOT be installed near pools, hot tubs, or other damp locations to prevent corrosion.
  • User Conduct: Users are instructed not to wear loose or dangling clothes or have headphone wires hanging when using the equipment. Children should be kept away, and teenagers supervised. A thorough medical exam is recommended before starting an exercise program.

Maintenance Features

The manual outlines a comprehensive maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity and safety of the equipment:

  • Daily Inspections:
    • Inspect cable end fittings for wear.
    • Inspect end fittings of cables daily.
    • Wipe down frames, painted, and chrome-plated parts with a damp cloth and dry completely.
    • Clean exercise instruction labels with soap and water.
    • Inspect frames and lifting arms for integrity and function.
    • Inspect all cables and their end fittings.
  • Weekly Inspections:
    • Inspect the entire cable weekly, paying close attention to areas over pulleys and end connections.
    • Check tightness of all nuts, bolts, and fasteners. Retighten loose hardware or use Loctite™ Threadlocker 242.
    • Clean upholstery with cloth towels and warm water, and condition weekly with a lanolin-based hand cleaner or vinyl upholstery cleaner. Avoid Windex, Simple Green, or 409.
    • Clean chrome seat adjustment tubes with a rag sprayed with Tri-Flow™M.
    • Check functionality of the machine: cables and end fittings intact and tensioned, adjustments possible, proper selector pin in weight stack, smooth exercise performance, lubricated guide rods and linear bearings.
  • Monthly Inspections:
    • Lubricate guide rods with Tri-Flow™ or other Teflon spray lubricant. Wipe dirt and dust before applying. DO NOT use oil lubricants like WD-40.
    • Check bronze bushings for signs of wear and lubricate with Tri-Flow™M.
  • Annual Maintenance:
    • Replace all cables at the first sign of wear or on an annual basis using only Paramount-supplied replacement cables.
  • Weight Stack Labels: Instructions are provided for installing weight stack labels, including specific part numbers for various weight configurations (130 lb, 190 lb, 170 lb, 250 lb, 210 lb, 310 lb). Kilogram labels are also available. Labels require 72 hours to cure after installation.
  • Optional Front Panel Kit: Installation instructions for optional front panels are provided, including different panel types for specific machine models (standard upright, XL0300 Leg Press, XL1000 Pec Fly/Rear Delt, XL1100 Lat Pull).
  • Optional Foreign Language Labels: Instructions for installing optional warning and procedure labels in French, German, or Spanish, as well as Kilogram weight stack labels.
  • Replacement Parts: A table lists main cable, auxiliary cable, seat pad, torso pad, and auxiliary pad part numbers for each machine model, facilitating ordering of replacement components.
  • Service: For warranty service, customers should contact an Authorized Paramount Dealer or Paramount Customer Service at 1-800-721-2121, providing the model number, serial number, date of installation, and a brief description of the problem. Serial numbers are located near the bottom of the upright.
  • Maintenance Kit: The Paramount Performance Kit (KIT-01) is recommended for proper maintenance materials. The General Maintenance Manual (AM-GMM) provides additional safety and maintenance information.

The manual includes a limited warranty, covering welds, weight plates, and guide rods for a lifetime; bronze bushings, sealed rotating bearings, and pulley wheels for five years; cables, linear bearings, linear shafts, and other components for one year; and upholstery and grips for ninety days. The warranty does not cover products not manufactured by Paramount, altered products, or products purchased from unauthorized dealers.
