Do you have a question about the PASCO PS-3229 and is the answer not in the manual?
The PASCO Wireless Force Platform (PS-3229) is a versatile educational tool designed for use by students under the supervision of a teacher. It allows for a wide range of experiments involving force measurement and analysis.
The Wireless Force Platform measures forces in three dimensions (X, Y, and Z) and can be used to study concepts such as Newton's Laws, impulse, momentum, and equilibrium. It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth to a computer or mobile device running PASCO Capstone or SPARKvue software, enabling real-time data acquisition and analysis. The platform is designed to be robust and durable, suitable for repeated use in educational settings.
The platform features four built-in force beams, each with an adjustable foot to ensure stability and level placement. The feet can be adjusted to fine-tune the height of each foot from the top of the platform, which is crucial for accurate measurements. The platform includes a USB port for charging the internal battery and for wired data measurement if needed. The battery light indicates the charging status (red for charging, green for fully charged). A power button allows users to turn the device on and off, with a second-long press required for activation. A Bluetooth Status Light indicates the connection status (red blink for ready to pair, green blink for paired, yellow blink for remotely logging data). The device ID is used for identifying the sensor when connecting via Bluetooth.
The platform is designed to be placed on a stable, flat surface. It is crucial to ensure that the platform is not placed on unsteady objects like tables, chairs, or other inappropriate objects. Users should always land with their feet entirely on the platform, avoiding landing on the edge. The platform should be kept away from objects that might interfere with its measurements or injure the user.
Getting Started: To begin, charge the battery using the included USB cable. The battery light will be red while charging and turn green when fully charged. The platform is compatible with SPARKvue or PASCO Capstone software. SPARKvue is available as a free app for Chromebooks, iOS, and Android devices, and a free trial of SPARKvue and Capstone is available for Windows and Mac. Downloads are available at pasco.com/downloads. If SPARKvue is already installed, ensure it is updated to the latest version.
Connecting to Software:
Set Up and Collect Data:
If the sample rate is too high, you may need to set a recording condition to trigger sampling. The Capstone help section provides instructions on how to use recording conditions.
Download an Experiment: Several student-ready activities from the PASCO Experiment Library are available. These include student handouts and teacher notes. Visit pasco.com/freelabs/PS-3229 for more information. To explore on your own, check out the SPARKvue and PASCO Capstone help guides for specific topics.
Wall Mounting Holes: These holes allow the force platform to be mounted to a wall for specific experiments. Handle Mounting Holes: These holes are designed to attach the Force Platform Handle Set (PS-2548) to the platform, enabling it to be carried easily. Feet and Force Beams: Each foot is attached to a force sensor and must be in contact with the surface to measure force. The tip of the foot must not be in contact with the wire from the platform. Adjust the height by turning the feet by hand. The height can also be adjusted from the top of the platform by turning the hex bolt attached to each foot. The force beams are identified by the label on the top of the platform. Cable Holder: The USB cable can be routed through the recess to hold the cable in place. USB Port: The USB port is used to charge the battery and for wired data measurement to a USB port of a computer or mobile device (iOS devices not supported). Horizontal Setups: The handles can be threaded to brass inserts on top of the platform. With the handles, the platform can be held against a wall to measure horizontal pushing force. On a Wall: The holes on the top of the platform can be used to hang from strings tied to a pair of bolts on a wall. At all four feet, there must be contact with the wall to measure force accurately. It is important to attach the bolts to wall studs or drywall anchors that can support the weight of the platform. Use string rated to support the weight of the platform.
Regulatory Information: The device is covered by copyright and trademarks. PASCO products are designed for educational use only in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities. They are not intended for use in medical applications or other degrees of accuracy and durability required or for industrial use. The device complies with FCC Part 15 rules, ensuring it does not cause harmful interference. It also meets CE and WEEE directives for environmental compliance. Batteries should be disposed of according to local regulations.
