Overview

The Pedrollo QEM and QET series are control boxes designed for 4" borehole pumps, manufactured in Italy. These control boxes are essential components for managing the operation of submersible pumps, ensuring their efficient and safe functioning. They are built to meet high-quality and environmental standards, being certified by DNV for both ISO 14001 (environmental system) and ISO 9001 (quality system).

Function Description:

The primary function of the QEM and QET control boxes is to provide a centralized control point for borehole pumps. They manage the pump's power supply, offer protection against various electrical faults, and allow for manual or automatic operation. The QEM series is designed for single-phase pumps, while the QET series caters to three-phase pumps. Both series incorporate features to safeguard the pump motor from overcurrents and thermal overloads, thereby extending the pump's lifespan and ensuring reliable operation. They also include inputs for external control devices such as float switches or pressure switches, enabling automated pump control based on water levels or system pressure.

Important Technical Specifications:

QEM Series (Single-Phase):

  • Power Supply: 1~50/60 Hz, 230V ±10%.
  • Main Switch: ON/OFF.
  • Motor Overcurrent Protection: Included.
  • Luminous Indicators: Green LED for "Motor active (ON)".
  • Inputs: For float / pressure switch.
  • Fuses: With aM tripping curve.
  • Enclosure: ABS box, IP55 rated.
  • Ambient Temperature: -5°C to +40°C.
  • Relative Humidity: 50% at 40°C (condensate free).

QET Series (Three-Phase):

  • Power Supply: 3~50/60 Hz, 400V ±10%.
  • Main Switch: MANUAL/OFF/AUTOMATIC.
  • Motor Overcurrent Protection: Included.
  • Luminous Indicators: Green LED for "Motor active (ON)", Red LED for "Thermal relay protection active".
  • Inputs: For float / pressure switch.
  • Fuses: With aM tripping curve.
  • Enclosure: ABS box, IP55 rated.
  • Ambient Temperature: -5°C to +40°C.
  • Relative Humidity: 50% at 40°C (condensate free).

Both control boxes are designed for indoor installation in a well-ventilated environment. They comply with several EU directives and technical standards, including 73/23/CEE, 93/68/CEE, CEI 17-13/1 (EN 60439-1), CEI 70-1 (EN 60529), CEI 44-5 (EN 60204-1), and EN 60335-1/95, ensuring their safety and performance in accordance with European regulations.

Usage Features:

QEM Series:

Operation is straightforward. Turning the main switch to position (1) starts the pump, indicated by the green LED illuminating. The pump continues to operate until the switch is turned to position (0). In case of a motor overload, the thermal protection activates, stopping the pump and turning off the green LED. The intervention is signaled by the thermal protection button dropping out. To restore operation, the user must press the reset button down.

QET Series:

The QET offers more versatile control with its MANUAL/OFF/AUTOMATIC main switch.

  • MANUAL (MAN) Position: Starts the pump in manual mode, with the green LED indicating the pump is running. The pump operates continuously until the switch is moved to the (0) position.
  • AUTOMATIC (AUT) Position: Activates the pump only when the contact wired to the P-P terminals (e.g., from a float or pressure switch) is closed. The pump runs as long as the P-P contact remains closed or until the main switch is turned to (0).
  • Overload Protection: An amperometric relay stops the pump during motor overload, turning off the green LED and illuminating the red LED to indicate tripping. To reset, the main switch must be turned to (0), the control box opened, and the RESET button pressed down. An automatic reset feature can be enabled by pressing and turning the reset button ¼ turn clockwise, though this is not recommended.

Installation:

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and effective operation of these control boxes.

  • Power Supply Verification: Ensure the main power supply voltage matches the specifications on the control panel's data plate and the connected motor.
  • Earthing: A robust earthing connection must be established before any other connections are made.
  • Residual Current Circuit Breaker: The power line must be protected by a residual current circuit breaker.
  • Wiring: Electrical cables should be tightened securely to their terminals using appropriate tools to prevent damage to the fixing screws. Care should be taken when using electric screwdrivers.
  • Environment: Install the equipment away from heat sources, in a dry, sheltered location, respecting the stated IP55 protection rating.
  • Safety Device: Installation of a safety device to protect the panel power line is recommended, in compliance with current electrical standards.
  • Qualified Electrician: All installation operations must be performed by a qualified electrician familiar with current safety standards.
  • Initial Check: After connection, verify the settings of the electrical panel, as the pump may start automatically.

Maintenance Features:

The Pedrollo QEM/QET control boxes are designed for reliability and generally do not require routine maintenance, provided they are used within their specified operating limits and according to the manual's instructions.

  • Specialized Maintenance: Any special maintenance or repairs must be carried out exclusively by authorized service centers.
  • Original Spare Parts: In the event of repairs, only original spare parts should be used to ensure continued performance and safety. The manufacturer disclaims liability for damage or injury resulting from unauthorized personnel performing maintenance or using non-original materials.
  • Storage: If the control box is not used for extended periods, it should be stored in a clean, safe location, protected from atmospheric agents and potential physical damage.
  • Fire Safety: In case of fire, avoid using water jets. Instead, use appropriate extinguishing agents such as powder, foam, or carbon dioxide.
  • Disposal: When the product reaches the end of its life, disassembly and scrapping must adhere strictly to local legislation regarding pollution. Waste disposal according to material categories is recommended.

Safety Warnings:

The manual emphasizes several critical safety warnings:

  • DANGER: Indicates a risk of death, severe injury, or damage to goods. Instructions under this sign must be followed carefully.
  • CAUTION: Also indicates a risk of death, severe injury, or damage to goods, requiring careful attention.
  • WARNING: Instructions under this sign must be followed to prevent equipment malfunction, damage, and injury to personnel.
  • Power Disconnection: Always cut off the power supply before working on the electrical panel or system.
  • Earthing: Connect to an efficient earthing system before any other work.
  • Automatic Start: Be aware that the electrical pump may start automatically after the system is connected and settings are checked.
  • Qualified Personnel: All installation and maintenance operations must be performed by a specialized technician fully aware of current safety standards.
  • Intended Use: The QEM/QET panels must be used exclusively for their specified design purpose. Any other application is considered improper and hazardous.

The Pedrollo QEM and QET control boxes are robust, reliable, and safety-compliant solutions for managing borehole pumps, offering both manual and automatic control options with essential motor protection features.
