The PENTAX ESPIO140V/140V DATE is a 35mm fully automatic lens-shutter camera with a built-in zoom lens and auto flash, designed for compact and lightweight photography. It's an ideal companion for preserving memories.

Function Description:

The camera offers fully automatic operation, including film loading, winding, and rewinding. It features a zoom lens for versatile framing and an auto flash with red-eye reduction for various lighting conditions. The DATE model includes a date imprinting function. Exposure control is programmed AE, with compensation for backlit situations. Focusing is handled by a phase-matching passive 5-point autofocus system, which includes Landscape mode, Spot AF, and an AF illuminator. A self-timer and optional remote control allow for delayed shutter release.

Usage Features:

  • Basic Operation: Simple film loading, automatic advance to the first frame, and automatic rewinding after the last frame. The lens protector acts as the ON/OFF switch.
  • Focusing: Adjust the viewfinder's clarity with the diopter adjustment lever. Compose subjects using the zoom button and focus within the autofocus frame. Half-pressing the shutter release button confirms focus (green lamp) before fully pressing to take a picture.
  • Exposure Modes:
    • Single-frame photography: Default mode, one picture per shutter press.
    • Self-timer photography: 10-second delay, indicated by an LED lamp. Tripod recommended.
    • Remote control photography: Uses an optional infrared remote control unit, with a 3-second delay.
    • Infinity-Landscape photography: Ideal for distant landscapes or subjects viewed through a window.
    • Spot AF mode: Focuses on a specific subject within the center of the AF frame.

  • Date/Time Imprinting (DATE model only): Selectable imprinting modes (Year, Month, Day; Day, Hour, Minute; no imprint; Month, Day, Year; Day, Month, Year). Date and time can be corrected.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Installation: Insert one 3V Lithium Battery (CR123A or equivalent) with the plus (+) side up.
  • Battery Exhaustion Warning: An "E" on the LCD panel indicates low battery; if blinking, the shutter is locked.
  • Power Saving: If left unused for 3 minutes with power on, the zoom lens retracts to 38mm to prevent damage. In remote control mode, if unused for 5 minutes, the zoom lens retracts and remote control mode is canceled.
  • Safety: Avoid placing hands on the flash when it is discharging to prevent burns. Use a tripod for slow shutter speeds to avoid camera shake.
