Correct needle and bobbin thread tensions are essential for good sewing results.
Checking needle thread tension: Normal setting is between 4 and 6. The higher the number, the tighter the tension. To check the tension, set a wide zigzag stitch. Sew a short seam. The threads must interlock in the middle of the material.
Normal position between 4 and 6. Higher number means stronger tension. Check with widest zigzag stitch. Sew a few points. Threads should knot within the two fabric layers.
How to regulate needle penetration: Place the prepared hem under the blind-stitch sewing foot. The crease line of the outer fabric runs along edge guide T of the blindstitch sewing foot. Turn screw S to adjust edge guide T so far to the left that the needle picks up only one thread of the outer fabric when penetrating on the left side (Figs. U and V).
The machine skips stitches: Needle not inserted correctly, wrong needle used, needle bent or blunt, improper threading, needle too thin for thread.
The upper thread breaks: Caused by incorrect needle insertion, incorrect threading, or tension issues.
