Changing
the
needle
Switch
off
the
on/off
switch
(13).
Removal:
Lower
the
presser
foot
and
raise
the
needle
to
its
highest
position.
Loosen
the
needle
retaining
screw
(22)
and
remove
the
needle
by
pulling
it
downwards.
Insertion:
The
flat
side
of
the
needle
A
must
be
facing
the
rear.
Lower
the
presser
foot
and
insert
the
needle
by
pushing
it
upwards
as
far
as
possible.
Hold
the
needle
and
tighten
the
retaining
screw
(22).
Turn
the
needle
thread
tension
(3)
to
the
desi
red
setting.
The
normal
setting
for
sewing
is
between
4
and
5
and
for
sewing
buttonholes
between
2
and
3
(see
page
28).
For
certain
sewing
procedures
such
as
sewing
on
buttons,
the
feed
dog
(27)
must
be
cove
red
with
the
darning
plate
to
stop
the
fabric
being
fed. Place
the
darning
plate
over
the
feed
dog
(27).
The
narrow
half
of
the
darning
plate
must
be
facing
the
front.
