WARNING: Read this Owner’s Manual carefully and be sure your grill has been properly

assembled, installed and maintained. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious

bodily injury and/or property damage. This grill is intended for outdoor use only and is not to be

installed in or on recreational vehicles or boats. Grill Head must maintain 12” clearance from

any combustible materials on all sides. Clearance from the grill surface to a

combustible material above such as an overhang must be at least 60”. If installed in

an island, it must be constructed of non-combustible material and it must be vented,

check National Fuel Safety code before constructing. Noncombustible materials

would include: brick, masonry, stone, cement and steel. Do not obstruct flow of

combustion and ventilation air. Keep ventilation openings on cart or island free from

obstruction or debris.

Nuts, bolts and fittings may become loose during transit, so for your own safety, thoroughly inspect

every nut, bolt and connection and secure as necessary before using your new grill.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: This grill is manufactured to exact specifications for the type of fuel

marked on the outside carton, as well as noted on the rating plate found on the grease tray.

Conversion from one fuel type to the other fuel type should only be done by a qualified gas

technician.

If you smell gas:

1. Shut off gas to the appliance.

2. Extinguish any open flame.

3. Open Lid.

4. If odor continues, keep away from

Function Description:

The PGS Legacy Series Gas Grill is an outdoor cooking appliance designed to provide a versatile and enjoyable grilling experience. It utilizes gas (LP or natural gas) to heat ceramic briquettes and cooking grids, allowing for direct grilling, rotisserie cooking (with optional Infra-Broil Rear Burner), and indirect cooking methods like baking and roasting. The grill is engineered for efficient and even cooking, with features aimed at maximizing flavor and minimizing flare-ups. Some models (T Series) are equipped with a built-in one-hour gas flow timer for enhanced safety and energy conservation, automatically shutting off the gas supply after a set period.

Important Technical Specifications:

Fuel Type: LP (Liquid Propane) or Natural Gas. Conversion between fuel types in the field is not supported or approved by PGS and will void the warranty.
LP Gas Cylinder: Approximately 12" diameter, 18" height, maximum fuel capacity of 20 lbs. (4.5 gallons) of propane. Must be constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. DOT or CAN/CSA-B339 standards. Must include a collar to protect the cylinder valve and a QCC Type I connection.
LP Gas Pressure: Regulator set for an outlet pressure of 11 inches of water column (W.C.) or 2.74 kPa.
Natural Gas Pressure: Designed to operate at a pressure of 4.5" W.C. (1.75 kPa) unregulated. A natural gas regulator set at 4.5" W.C. is required if local pressure varies.
Clearances:
- Minimum 12" clearance from any combustible materials on all sides of the grill head.
- Minimum 60" clearance from the cooking grid surface to any combustible material above (e.g., an overhang).
- For masonry installations, a minimum 6" clearance from the back of the grill to non-combustible construction is required for the hood to open fully.
- Island enclosures must be constructed of non-combustible materials and properly vented.
Infra-Broil Rear Burner (optional/standard on some models): Features 14,000 BTU of radiant heat for rotisserie cooking.
Ignition System: Electronic "Sure Start" ignitor, requiring an AA battery (replace every six months).
Materials: Stainless steel construction for housings, cooking grids, warming rack, and burners. Ceramic briquettes (Moon Rok) for heat distribution.
Timer (T Series models S27T, S36T): Built-in one-hour gas flow timer that automatically shuts off gas supply.

Usage Features:

Outdoor Use Only: The grill is strictly designed for outdoor use and must not be operated in garages, buildings, sheds, breezeways, recreational vehicles, boats, or any other enclosed areas.
Safe Lighting: Always open the lid completely before lighting the burner to prevent gas fume accumulation. Depress the ignition button gently. If ignition fails within 5 seconds, turn controls OFF, wait five minutes for gas to clear, and try again. Manual lighting via a port is available if electronic ignition fails.
Heat Control: Features "infinite" heat control with HI, MEDIUM, and LO settings. Cooking with the lid closed on "HI" is not recommended for extended periods due to high temperatures (exceeding 700°F).
Cooking Methods: Supports direct grilling, rotisserie cooking (with Infra-Broil Rear Burner), and indirect cooking (baking/roasting).
Flare-Up Control: Designed to manage flare-ups, which are considered desirable for flavor. Excessive flare-ups can be controlled by lowering heat, moving meat, cooking with the lid open, or spraying with water/baking soda.
Rotisserie Use: When using the Infra-Broil Rear Burner, lower burners should be OFF. A drip pan with liquid is recommended under the meat to catch juices and reduce flare-ups. A counter-balance is included for balancing the load.
Meat Thermometer: Recommended for accurate doneness, especially for poultry and larger cuts of meat.
Heat Indicator: Located on the right-hand side, it can be moved to the left if preferred, though it may interfere with the rotisserie motor mount.
Timer Operation (T Series): Turn the timer knob clockwise past 30 minutes, then back to the desired gas flow time (up to one hour). To extend cooking time, turn all gas control valves to OFF, then reset the timer.
Wind Considerations: Avoid using the grill in extremely windy conditions. If in a consistently windy area, a windbreak is required. Position the grill with its side facing the prevailing breeze, not the front or back, to prevent burner disruption and overheating of controls.

Maintenance Features:

Gas Leak Test: Crucial before first use and after any gas connection changes. Use a 50% liquid soap, 50% water solution on all connections. Bubbles indicate a leak; turn off gas, tighten fittings, and retest. NEVER use an open flame.
Grease Tray Clean Out: Line with heavy-duty aluminum foil and replace at least every ten uses, or more often for fatty meats. Empty accumulated water if the grill is left uncovered in rain/snow.
Periodic Cleaning: Perform basic maintenance annually. This involves removing cooking grids, rock grates, and burners to clean the inside of the burner with a stiff wire brush and clear clogged flame holes with a thin wire. Clean venturis with a bottlebrush or pipe cleaner.
Stainless Steel Care: Wipe with a soft, damp, soapy cloth and rinse with clean water after each use. For tenacious deposits, use a quality stainless cleaner. Avoid harsh abrasives, wire brushes, or contaminated scouring pads. Clean along the polished grain.
Spider and Insect Warning: Inspect burners at least twice a year or if performance issues arise (yellow flames, popping noises, uneven heating). Spiders and insects can nest in venturi tubes, causing gas flow obstruction and potential "flashback" fires. Clean venturis with a long narrow bottlebrush.
Electrode Adjustment: The electrode tip should be 1/8" away from the grounding wire. Adjust if necessary, but do not exceed 3/8". Replace if ceramic insulator is cracked.
Battery Replacement: Replace the AA battery in the ignition module every six months or when sparks slow down.
Grill Cover: Strongly recommended to protect the grill finish when not in use.
Replacement Parts: Use only genuine PGS replacement parts available through authorized dealers or AEI Corporation.
Timer Maintenance (T Series): Pull off the timer knob and clean the assembly with compressed air at least once a month to remove debris.
