Do you have a question about the Philips AWP9820 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Philips Scale Inhibitor (AWP9820) is a water treatment device designed to prevent scale formation and reduce particles in your water supply, thereby protecting water heating appliances such as water heaters, washing machines, and dishwashers. It features a 3-stage filtration system to achieve these benefits.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Philips Scale Inhibitor is to treat cold water before it reaches your water heating appliances. By employing a 3-stage filtration process, it effectively tackles two main issues: scale formation and the presence of particles in the water. Scale, often caused by hard water, can build up in appliances, reducing their efficiency and lifespan. The inhibitor works to prevent this buildup, ensuring your appliances operate optimally. Simultaneously, it reduces the amount of small particles in the water, which can also contribute to appliance wear and tear. This dual action helps to extend the life of your water heating appliances and maintain their performance.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Product Name: Philips Scale Inhibitor / X-Guard Power antiscalant
  • Product Model: AWP9820
  • Filtration Capacity: 27,000 liters
  • Inlet Water Pressure: 0.1-0.4 MPa (1-4 bar). If the inlet water pressure exceeds 0.4 MPa, a pressure relief valve must be installed before the product. This valve needs to be purchased separately.
  • Inlet Water Temperature: 5°C-38°C
  • Applicable Water Source: Municipal tap water

Usage Features:

The device is designed for installation in your cold water supply line, typically before appliances like water heaters, washing machines, or dishwashers. The installation process involves connecting the cold water hose to the inhibitor's inlet and outlet, ensuring proper sealing with gaskets, and tightening connections with a wrench. If your water hose is 3/4", a 3/4" adaptor should be used. After installation, it's crucial to check for leaks by wiping connections with a tissue. If the tissue remains dry, the installation is correct.

Maintenance Features:

The Philips Scale Inhibitor requires periodic maintenance, primarily the refilling of the antiscalant.

  • Refill Process:
    1. Turn off the cold water supply.
    2. Remove the bottom cap by turning it clockwise.
    3. Take out the filter cartridge, remove its cap, and extract the emptied fabric bag containing the antiscalant.
    4. Rinse the stainless steel mesh of the filter cartridge with tap water.
    5. Fill the cartridge with a new bag of antiscalant (refill model code: AWP183) and replace the cap on the filter cartridge.
    6. Place the filter cartridge back into the scale inhibitor and twist the bottom cap anticlockwise until it is securely tightened.
  • Refill Frequency:
    • If installed before a washing machine or dishwasher, it's recommended to check if a refill is needed during the annual maintenance check.
    • If installed before a water heater, it's recommended to check for refill every 3-6 months.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as no water flow, water leaks from connections or the bottom cap, slow flow, and noticeable scale build-up. Solutions typically involve checking the cold water valve, refilling the antiscalant, tightening nuts or the bottom cap, ensuring gaskets are present, cleaning the stainless steel mesh, or contacting consumer care.
  • Precautions:
    • The device should only be used with municipal tap water. Do not use microbiologically unsafe or unknown quality water without proper disinfection.
    • Turn off the water supply if the product will not be used for an extended period.
    • The product should not be installed outdoors.
    • Adhere to the specified inlet water temperature and pressure ranges to prevent damage.

The Philips Scale Inhibitor is designed to be a reliable solution for improving water quality and protecting your household appliances from the detrimental effects of scale and particles.
