Overview

This document describes the Philips Thermoprotect Style 1600 hairdryer, model HP4863, designed for personal hair care. It emphasizes a unique Thermoflow System that aims to dry hair effectively while preserving its natural moisture and health.

Function Description

The Philips Thermoprotect Style 1600 hairdryer is engineered to provide efficient hair drying with a focus on hair health. Its core function is to dry hair using a Thermoflow System, which utilizes a higher volume of air at a lower heat compared to conventional hairdryers. This approach is intended to prevent dehydration, maintain the hair's natural moisture level, and leave it with enhanced luster, body, and richness. The device is designed to deliver a constant, caring temperature throughout its operation, ensuring gentle yet effective drying.

The hairdryer offers adjustable airflow settings to cater to different drying and styling needs. These settings include:

  • Fast setting (III): Provides a strong airflow for quick drying of wet hair.
  • Medium setting (II): Offers a medium airflow suitable for gentle drying and styling.
  • Style setting (I): Delivers a low airflow, specifically designed for precise styling.
  • Off (O): Turns the appliance off.

A notable feature is the "Quick-dry Shot," which allows for significantly faster and safer drying of shower-wet hair. This function is activated by pressing and holding a dedicated button for a short duration.

The hairdryer also includes styling attachments to enhance its versatility. The primary attachment is a concentrator, which helps to direct the airflow precisely onto a brush or comb, facilitating targeted styling and shaping of the hair.

Usage Features

To operate the hairdryer, users must first ensure that the voltage indicated on the appliance matches the local mains voltage. The appliance is connected to a wall socket, and then the desired setting is selected using the control switch.

When drying hair, it is recommended to hold the dryer at a small distance from the hair and make brushing movements. For shower-wet hair, the Quick-dry Shot function is particularly useful for accelerated drying.

The concentrator attachment can be easily connected to the appliance by snapping it into place and disconnected by pulling it off. This allows users to customize the airflow for specific styling tasks.

Safety is a paramount consideration in the design and usage instructions. Users are advised to keep the appliance away from water and to unplug it after use, especially in bathrooms, as the proximity of water poses a risk even when the hairdryer is switched off. For additional protection in bathrooms, the installation of a residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA is recommended.

The appliance is designed with an automatic shut-off mechanism in case of overheating. If this occurs, users should unplug the appliance, allow it to cool down for a few minutes, and check the air grilles for any blockages by fluff or hair before restarting. It is crucial to never block the air grilles during operation.

Users are reminded to always switch off the appliance before putting it down, even for a brief moment, and to always unplug it after use. The appliance should be kept out of reach of children.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the Philips Thermoprotect Style 1600 hairdryer is straightforward. The main body of the appliance can be cleaned with a dry cloth.

The styling attachments, such as the concentrator, can be cleaned with a moist cloth or by rinsing them under running tap water. Before cleaning, the attachments should be removed from the appliance. It is essential to ensure that the attachments are completely dry before reattaching them or storing them. The appliance itself should never be rinsed with water.

In terms of replacement and repair, specific guidelines are provided to ensure user safety and proper functioning of the device. If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a Philips-authorized service center, or similarly qualified persons to prevent hazards. Users are strongly advised to always return the appliance to an authorized Philips service center for examination or repair, as repairs by unqualified individuals could lead to extremely hazardous situations.
