Do you have a question about the Phonak Naida L90-UP and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Phonak Naída L-UP is a hearing aid designed to amplify and transmit sound to the ear, compensating for impaired hearing. It is suitable for individuals aged 3 years and older with unilateral or bilateral hearing loss, including conductive, sensorineural, or mixed types, ranging from severe to profound. Caregivers and hearing care professionals are also intended users.

Function Description:

The Phonak Naída L-UP is a wireless hearing aid that connects directly with Bluetooth® enabled phones, allowing for hands-free phone calls. When paired and connected to a phone, the user will hear notifications and the caller's voice directly in the hearing aid. The hearing aid microphones pick up the user's voice and transmit it back to the phone.

The device features a multi-function button that serves as a volume control and/or a program change switch, depending on the hearing aid's programming. When paired with a Bluetooth® enabled phone, a short press of the button accepts an incoming call, while a long press rejects it.

The hearing aid also includes a telecoil option, which can be activated via a long press of the multi-function button or through the myPhonak or myPhonak Junior apps. This feature allows users to hear in public spaces equipped with loop systems, such as churches, concert halls, and train stations.

Usage Features:

  • On/Off Switch: The battery door acts as the on/off switch. Closing the battery door turns the hearing aid on, and opening it turns it off. A start-up melody may be heard when switching on.
  • Battery Insertion: For standard battery doors, remove the sticker from a new battery, wait 2 minutes, open the battery door, and place the battery with the flat side facing upwards. For tamper-proof battery doors, a tool is used to open the door.
  • Initial Pairing: The hearing aid needs to be paired once with each Bluetooth® enabled device. This process can take up to 2 minutes. After initial pairing, the hearing aid will automatically connect when switched on and within range. It can be connected to up to two devices and paired to up to eight.
  • Phone Calls: The hearing aid provides hands-free phone calls, with the caller's voice heard directly in the hearing aid and the user's voice picked up by the hearing aid microphones. Calls can be accepted with a short press of the multi-function button (less than 2 seconds) and ended or rejected with a long press (more than 2 seconds).
  • Flight Mode: To enter flight mode, open the battery door, then hold down the lower part of the multi-function button for 7 seconds while closing the battery door. This disables Bluetooth® connectivity but maintains normal hearing aid functionality. To exit flight mode, simply open and close the battery door again.
  • Earpieces: Compatible with classic earmolds and universal eartips. The classic earmold is detachable.
  • Left and Right Markings: A blue marking indicates a left hearing aid, and a red marking indicates a right hearing aid.
  • myPhonak and myPhonak Junior Apps: These apps provide additional functionality and can be used to access features like the telecoil program. QR codes are provided in the manual for accessing webpages and installing the apps.
  • Roger™ Technology: Roger™ is an intelligent wireless technology that transmits speech directly to the hearing aids, helping to overcome distance and noise. Roger™ receivers can be installed by a hearing care professional, and Roger™ microphones are sold separately.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Care: Inspect the earpiece and tube for earwax and moisture. Clean surfaces with a lint-free cloth. Avoid household detergents, soap, or rinsing with water, as moisture can get trapped in the tube.
  • Weekly Care: Clean the earpiece with a soft, damp cloth or a special cleaning cloth for hearing aids.
  • Monthly Care: Inspect the hearing tube for color changes, hardening, or cracks. Replace the tube if any changes are observed.
  • Battery Removal: Remove the battery if the hearing aid is not used for a long period to prevent moisture evaporation and potential impact on performance.
  • Drying: When not in use, leave the battery door open to allow moisture to evaporate. Always completely dry the hearing aid after use and store it in a safe, dry, and clean place.
  • Earpiece Exchange: Regularly check and exchange or clean the earpiece if it appears dirty or if the hearing aid volume or sound quality is reduced.
  • Dome Replacement: The dome should be changed every three months or when it becomes stiff or brittle to prevent it from detaching during insertion or removal.

Safety Information:

  • The hearing aid is water resistant, not waterproof. Do not immerse it in water or wear it during activities like swimming or bathing, as it contains sensitive electronic parts.
  • Do not wash the microphone inputs, as this can cause loss of acoustic features.
  • Protect the hearing aid from heat and sunlight. Do not leave it near a window or in a car. Do not use microwaves or other heating devices to dry it. Consult a hearing care professional for suitable drying methods.
  • Do not drop the hearing aid, as dropping it onto a hard surface can cause damage.
  • Always use new batteries. If a battery is leaking, replace it immediately to avoid skin irritation. Used batteries should be returned to a hearing care professional.
  • Remove the hearing aid during medical or dental examinations involving X-rays, MRI/NMRI scans, or generating magnetic fields. Hearing aids do not need to be removed when passing security gates (airports etc.).
  • Do not use the hearing aid in areas where electronic equipment is prohibited.
  • Avoid strong physical impacts to the ear when wearing a hearing aid with a customized earpiece, as this may lead to perforation of the ear canal or eardrum if the earpiece breaks.
  • After mechanical stress or shock, ensure the hearing aid shell is intact before placing it in the ear.
  • Avoid using this equipment adjacent to or stacked with other equipment, as it could result in improper operation.
  • Portable RF communications equipment should be used no closer than 30 cm (12 inches) to any part of the hearing aids to prevent degradation of performance.
  • Hearing aids should not be fitted with domes/wax protection systems for patients with perforated eardrums, inflamed ear canals, or exposed middle ear cavities. In such cases, a classic earmold is recommended.
  • In rare cases, an eartip or part of it may remain in the ear canal upon removal. If this occurs, consult a physician for safe removal.
  • Device batteries are hazardous if swallowed or placed inside any part of the body. Keep them out of reach of children, individuals with cognitive impairment, or pets. Consult a physician immediately if ingestion is suspected.
  • Hearing programs in directional microphone mode reduce background noises, but users should be aware that warning signals or noises from behind (e.g., cars) may be partially or entirely suppressed.
  • This hearing aid is not for children below 36 months. Usage by children and individuals with cognitive impairment should be supervised. The device contains small parts that can cause choking if swallowed.
  • For individuals with active implantable medical devices (pacemakers, defibrillators), keep the hearing aid at least 15 cm (6 inches) away from the implant. If interference occurs, discontinue use and contact the implant manufacturer. Magnets (battery handling tool, EasyPhone magnet) should also be kept at least 15 cm (6 inches) away from the active implant.
