Overview

This document is the owner's manual and safety instructions for the Pittsburgh Automotive 20 Gallon Portable Oil Lift Drain, model 69814. It provides essential information for safe operation, assembly, and maintenance of the device.

Function Description:

The Pittsburgh Automotive 20 Gallon Portable Oil Lift Drain is designed for collecting and evacuating used engine oil from vehicles. It features a portable design with wheels and casters for easy maneuverability within a work area. The device allows for gravity draining of oil into its tank and then uses compressed air to evacuate the collected oil into a separate receptacle for recycling.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 20 Gallons
  • Working Air Pressure: 10 PSI
  • Air Inlet: 1/4 IN. - 18 NPT

Usage Features:

  • Portability: Equipped with two 6" fixed wheels and two 3" swivel casters, along with a handle, for easy movement.
  • Adjustable Height: The drain tube, with the funnel attached, can be adjusted to the required height and locked in place using a locking knob, allowing it to be positioned approximately 4 inches below the oil drain plug of a raised vehicle.
  • Gravity Draining: Oil drains directly from the vehicle's oil pan into the funnel and then into the 20-gallon tank.
  • Air-Powered Evacuation: Once the tank is full, compressed air (regulated to 7-10 PSI) is connected to the air inlet to pressurize the tank, forcing the used oil out through the discharge hose and nozzle into a collection receptacle.
  • Visual Fill Level: The discharge hose is clear, allowing the user to observe the oil level in the reservoir. A hoop indicates the maximum fill level.
  • Safety Valve: Includes a safety valve to help relieve pressure if the tank becomes over-pressurized during evacuation.
  • Ball Valve Control: A ball valve controls the flow of oil within the system, with a vertical position for draining and a horizontal position for evacuation.
  • Regulator with Gauge: Features a regulator with a pressure gauge to control and monitor the air pressure during oil evacuation, ensuring it does not exceed 10 PSI.

Maintenance Features:

  • Sludge Drainage: The tank includes a drain plug (24) for yearly removal of accumulated sludge.
  • Cleaning: The exterior of the tank should be kept free of oil and grease, cleaned with mild soap and a damp cloth. Flammable or combustible solvents should not be used.
  • Hose Inspection: The discharge hose (13) should be inspected for damage before and during each use.
  • Air Supply Maintenance:
    • Requires a clean, dry, regulated compressed air source.
    • An in-line filter, regulator with pressure gauge, oiler (optional), and shutoff valve are recommended for optimal performance and safety.
    • Pneumatic tool oil should be added to the airline connection if an automatic oiler is not used, with a few drops added after each hour of continual use.
    • Air connections should be inspected for leaks regularly.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as decreased output, housing heats during use, and severe air leakage, providing possible causes and likely solutions. Solutions often involve checking air supply, cleaning components, lubricating, or replacing damaged parts.

Safety Instructions Highlighted:

  • Always read and understand the manual before use.
  • Do not exceed the air pressure rating (200 psi maximum for air source, 10 PSI working pressure for the drain).
  • Use only clean, dry, regulated compressed air; never use oxygen, carbon dioxide, combustible gases, or any other bottled gas.
  • Ensure the vehicle is safely supported by a proper lift.
  • Use on a flat, hard, level surface.
  • Avoid open flames, heat sources, and smoking during use.
  • Allow engine oil to cool completely before draining to prevent burns.
  • Do not leave the oil lift unattended when operating or evacuating oil.
  • Wear heavy-duty work gloves and ANSI-approved safety goggles.
  • Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away from the work area.
  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit.
  • Do not operate in explosive atmospheres.
  • Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry.
  • Do not climb or stand on the drain.
  • Recycle used oil according to regulations.
  • All repairs and parts replacements should be undertaken by certified and licensed technicians.
