Overview

This document provides installation and operating instructions for a functional fire pit, designed for outdoor use only. It covers various models including Ulc-PH48-C-E, Ulc-PH34-C-E, Ulc-PH42-C-E series, and MODEL: 90001, 90003, 90005, 90006, 90007 series.

Function Description

The device is an outdoor fire pit designed to provide warmth and ambiance. It operates on either Liquid Propane (LP) or Natural Gas (NG), with conversion instructions provided. The fire pit features a table top that can be opened and closed, allowing it to function as both a fire pit and a table. It uses decorative glass crystals as media for the burner.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Clearance to Combustibles:
    • Maximum Overhang: 36 inches
    • Side Clearance: 36 inches
    • Top Clearance: 96 inches
    • A minimum 18-square inches of cross ventilation (2 sides) is required for proper component operation.
  • Btu Specifications (Table 2):

    • Btu listings are based on 7.0"WC for Natural Gas and 11.0"WC for Liquid Propane (LP) at the inlet side of the gas valve.
  • Gas Pressures (Table 3):
    • Manifold Pressure: NG 7.0"WC, LP 11.0"WC
    • Inlet Gas Supply Pressure: LP Max. 25PSI, Min. 250PSI; NG Max. 3.5"WC, Min. 10.5"WC
  • Gas Supply Line: Requires a minimum 3/4" black iron pipe for hard piping without gas proximity, or an approved flexible gas line. For fire pits rated above 100,000 Btu's and exceeding 20 feet in length, refer to NFPA54 for proper pipe sizing.
  • LP Cylinder Requirements: Standard 5-gallon (20 lb.) propane-gas cylinder equipped with an OPD (Overfill Prevention Device). Dimensions: approximately 12" (30.5 cm) in diameter and 18" (45.7 cm) high. Must be constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) Specifications for Propane Gas Cylinders or the National Standard of Canada, CAN/CSA-B339. Must include a collar to protect the cylinder valve and be arranged for vapor withdrawal. The pressure regulator and hose assembly supplied with the appliance must be used. Never fill the cylinder beyond 80% full.
  • Electrical (Optional): If a 120VAC adapter is used, it must follow local codes or National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70 for installation. A breaker on a wall switch with an approved outdoor outlet must be used, and the breaker should be in the OFF position when not in use.
  • Decorative Media: Round decorative glass with a glass stone (10KG) is supplied. If using all glass media, it must be a minimum of 1/4-inch diameter or larger. Decorative rock (minimum 1-inch diameter) can be used as a base.

Usage Features

  • Outdoor Use Only: This appliance is strictly for outdoor use and not approved for any indoor use.
  • Operating Temperature: Intended for operation in temperatures above 32°F.
  • Table Top Functionality: The table top can be opened by pulling down lock pins on each side and sliding the top to the right and left into an open and locked position. To close, slide the table top back to the closed and locked position.
  • Lighting Instructions (Manual/Match):
    1. Ensure gas supply is OFF.
    2. Lay a lighted long-stem match or use a long-necked butane lighter near the burner ring.
    3. Push and slowly turn the control knob to the ON position. The burner should light.
    4. Observe flame height (3 to 13 inches high).
    5. If the burner does not light, turn the control knob to OFF, wait 5 minutes, and repeat.
  • Extinguishing: Turn the control knob to the OFF position.
  • Gas Conversion: Detailed steps are provided to convert the fire pit from propane to natural gas or vice-versa, including changing the orifice, installing/removing the air shutter, and converting the regulator. A warning sticker must be affixed after changing to an NG system.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not operate when the table top is in the closed position.
    • Do not sit or stand on the table top.
    • Do not leave unattended during use.
    • Do not use for cooking.
    • Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors/liquids near the appliance.
    • Do not operate in the rain.
    • Do not burn solid fuels.
    • Do not use if any part has been underwater.
    • Do not throw trash, paper, or other flammable materials onto the unit.
    • Children and adults should be alerted to high surface temperatures and stay away to avoid burns. Children must be carefully supervised.
    • Do not move the unit while in operation.
    • Do not enlarge valve orifices or burner ports.
    • Keep ventilation openings in the cylinder enclosure free of debris.
    • Do not rest feet on the fire pit.
    • Do not store a spare or disconnected LP cylinder under or near the appliance.
    • Disconnected cylinders must be stored outdoors, out of reach of children, with threaded valve plugs tightly installed, and not in enclosed areas.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Inspection: The appliance should be inspected before use and at least annually by a qualified service person. More frequent cleaning may be required.
  • Cleaning: Control compartment, burners, and circulating air passageways must be kept clean.
  • Hose Inspection: Inspect the hose assembly before each use. Replace if there is evidence of excessive abrasion or wear.
  • Gas Leak Testing: All gas connections must be leak tested before installation and regularly. Use soapy water solution; if bubbles appear, a leak is present. Never use a flame to check for leaks.
  • Burner Replacement: The burner must be replaced if it has evident damage before operation. The replacement burner shall be specified by the manufacturer.
  • Glass Crystal Placement: Pour glass crystals into the burner pan to completely cover the burner. Maintain the layout as shown in figures to ensure proper operation. Use heat-resistant gloves when handling hot glass crystals.
  • Ring Cleaning (Yearly): If flame exhibits abnormal shapes or behavior, or if the burner fails to ignite properly, the burner holes may require cleaning. Carefully remove logs and media to access the burner. Use a brush to remove dust, spider webs, and loose particles. If the fire ring is damaged, it must be replaced.
  • Battery Removal: Take out the battery when not using the fire pit for an extended length of time.
  • Covering: Keep the fire pit covered at all times when not in use.
  • Debris: Keep any debris out of the fire pit.
