Overview

This document describes the MOC-305B, a 27MHz optical mouse manufactured by PLEOMAX. It serves as a comprehensive user manual, guiding users through its setup, operation, and maintenance. The mouse is designed for general computer use, offering wireless connectivity and a straightforward installation process.

Function Description

The MOC-305B is a wireless optical mouse that facilitates interaction with a computer. It operates on a 27MHz frequency, communicating with a slim dongle connected to the computer's USB port. The optical sensor allows for precise tracking on various surfaces, eliminating the need for a mouse pad in many scenarios. Its primary function is to translate physical hand movements into on-screen cursor movements, enabling users to navigate graphical interfaces, select items, and execute commands. The mouse includes standard left and right click buttons, along with a scroll roller for vertical navigation within documents and web pages. The wireless design offers freedom of movement, reducing cable clutter on the desk.

Usage Features

The MOC-305B is designed for ease of use, with several features enhancing the user experience:

  • Wireless Connectivity: The mouse connects to the computer via a slim dongle, providing a wireless range that allows for comfortable use without being tethered by a cable. This is particularly beneficial for users who prefer a clean workspace or who use their computer from a slight distance.
  • Optical Tracking: Utilizing optical technology, the mouse offers accurate and smooth cursor control. This type of tracking is generally more reliable and less prone to dust accumulation compared to older ball-based mice.
  • Plug-and-Play Installation (with driver support): For most modern operating systems, the mouse can be recognized automatically upon plugging in the slim dongle. However, a dedicated driver CD is provided for situations where automatic recognition does not occur or for users who wish to install the specific PLEOMAX driver. The driver installation process is guided by an executable file ("Setup.exe") on the CD, leading to the appearance of a mouse setting icon on the taskbar for further customization.
  • Battery-Powered Operation: The mouse is powered by two AAA batteries, providing portability and eliminating the need for a power cable.
  • Power Management: To conserve battery life, the mouse incorporates a standby mode. Users can wake the mouse from standby by pressing any button, ensuring it's ready for use when needed.
  • Battery Status Indicator: A crucial usage feature is the LED indicator located under the scroll roller. This indicator provides real-time feedback on the battery status. A green light signifies that the battery level is adequate, while a blinking red light (at a frequency of one blink per second) indicates that the battery is low and requires immediate replacement. This proactive notification helps users avoid unexpected power loss during critical tasks.
  • Slim Dongle Design: The compact size of the slim dongle minimizes its protrusion from the USB port, reducing the risk of accidental damage and making it convenient for laptop users.
  • Broad System Compatibility: The mouse is compatible with a wide range of operating systems, including Windows 2000, XP SP2, Vista (32/64bit), and Mac OS X (10.2.8 or higher). This ensures that a broad spectrum of users can integrate the MOC-305B into their existing computer setups. It requires an IBM or compatible PC with a USB port.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the MOC-305B primarily involves managing its power source and ensuring proper driver installation:

  • Battery Replacement: The most common maintenance task is replacing the AAA batteries. The manual provides clear instructions: "Open the battery door from the bottom case," "Take off the Slim Dongle and insert the batteries into battery compartment," and "Close the battery door." This straightforward process ensures that users can easily keep the mouse powered. The battery status indicator (blinking red LED) serves as a direct prompt for this maintenance.
  • Driver Reinstallation/Troubleshooting: While the mouse is designed for automatic recognition, the manual anticipates scenarios where this might not happen. It advises users to "Insert the driver CD → Double click 'Setup.exe' and follow set-up instructions" if the mouse isn't recognized automatically. This provides a clear path for troubleshooting driver-related issues, ensuring the mouse functions correctly. The appearance of a mouse setting icon on the taskbar after successful installation confirms the driver's operational status.
  • Power Switch: The inclusion of a power switch allows users to manually turn the mouse off when not in use for extended periods, further conserving battery life beyond the automatic standby mode. This is a simple yet effective maintenance feature for power management.
  • FCC Compliance and Interference Management: The manual includes an FCC Statement, which, while primarily a regulatory notice, also provides guidance on managing potential interference. It suggests measures like "Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna," "Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver," and "Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected." These are practical steps users can take to ensure optimal wireless performance and minimize disruptions, effectively acting as maintenance guidelines for wireless signal integrity. The device's compliance with FCC rules means it's designed to operate without causing harmful interference and to accept interference it may receive, which is a foundational aspect of its reliable operation.
