Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your pondXpert UVC. Once your uvc unit is connected
you can look forward to increased water clarity.
Your unit works by exposing your pond to UV light. This causes microscopic algae cells to
flocculate (stick together). These larger pieces can then get trapped in filter media as they
pass through your pond system.
This unit is designed for outdoor use only. It is weatherproof and should be situated safely
pondside. The unit should be sited where it cannot fall into the water or become
waterlogged.
NO PART OF THIS UNIT SHOULD EVER BE SUBMERGED IN WATER.
PondXpert products are carefully inspected and tested to ensure both safety and operating
performance. However, failure to follow the instructions and warnings in the manual may
result in product damage and/or serious injury. Be sure to read and save this manual for
future reference.
General safety Instructions
Read and observe all of the instructions before installing, connecting and operating.
Make sure the filter is securely and correctly installed before switching on.
Always disconnect the UV when not in use and when carrying out maintenance.
Always disconnect all equipment in the pond before starting to handle, maintain, repair or
install any pond equipment.
The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical,
sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been

Overview

The PondXpert Greenstop Pond Ultra Violet Clarifier (UVC) is a device designed to improve water clarity in ponds by eliminating microscopic algae. It operates by exposing pond water to UV light, which causes algae cells to flocculate (stick together). These larger clumps of algae can then be easily trapped in filter media as the water passes through the pond's filtration system.

Function Description:

The UVC unit is an electrically operated device that integrates into a pond's filtration system. Water is pumped through the unit, where it is exposed to ultraviolet light emitted by an internal UV bulb. This process targets single-celled algae, causing them to clump together. The clarified water then continues to the pond filter, where the now larger algae particles are removed, leading to clearer pond water. The unit is designed for continuous operation during the fish feeding season to effectively control algae growth.

All models are supplied with a 3-core electrical cable and an externally fitted IP44 rated ballast. They come complete with a pair of hosetail connections and operate on a rated voltage of 220-240V, 50Hz. The universal hosetails are designed to accommodate ¾", 1", 1 ½", and 1 ½” (20/25/32/40) diameter flexible pond hose.

Usage Features:

The UVC unit is designed for outdoor use only and must be situated safely pondside, ensuring it cannot fall into the water or become waterlogged. It is weatherproof, but no part of the unit should ever be submerged in water.

  • Installation: The UVC should be positioned between the pond pump and the filter, with water pumped through the unit (not gravity fed). It should be installed horizontally on a solid surface, ideally before the main filter. Hosetails should be secured with suitable hose clips, and hose lengths kept to a minimum to reduce friction-loss of flow.
  • Operation: For optimal results, the UVC should be operated 24 hours a day during the fish feeding season, typically from early March to October, when water temperatures are above 10 degrees Celsius. Algae growth ceases in winter, so the unit can be switched off and stored indoors in a dry, frost-protected area after being drained of water. Users should expect to see clearer water within two weeks, depending on pond conditions and correct equipment sizing.
  • Safety: Direct exposure to UVC light can damage eyes and skin; users should never look directly at the UV bulb when it's switched on. A translucent inlet illuminates to indicate that the UV is working. If the electrical cord is damaged, the product must be discarded as the supply cable cannot be replaced. All installations must comply with local building regulations and electrical safety standards, including the use of a 10mA or 30mA Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCD) and permanent termination to the mains supply within a dry, weatherproof enclosure via a double pole switched fused spur (BS 3676) with a 3 or 5 amp fuse. Exposed cable runs should be protected, ideally with armoured conduit.

Maintenance Features:

The PondXpert UVC requires minimal maintenance, primarily the annual replacement of the UV bulb.

  • UV Bulb Replacement: The active UV output of the bulb decreases over time, even if it still appears to be working. Therefore, the UV bulb must be changed every 12 months, ideally in early spring, to maintain effectiveness.
    • To replace the bulb: Unscrew the wired end-cap anti-clockwise (for 55W units, press the black button). Gently pull the old UV bulb out of its electrical connection. Insert the new tube by gently pushing it into the electrical connection. Re-assemble the end cap by rotating it clockwise.
  • Winter Storage: During winter months, when algae growth is minimal, the unit should be switched off, drained of water, and stored in a dry, frost-protected area to prevent damage.

Warranty:

The product comes with a 12-month limited warranty covering material or manufacturing defects. This guarantee covers the substitution of defective parts. However, the warranty is void in cases of improper use, handling, or negligence. The UV lamp itself is not guaranteed. For warranty claims, the product should be returned to the retail outlet of purchase with proof of purchase.

The appliance contains valuable materials that can be recovered or recycled and should be disposed of at a local civic waste collection point.
